RMT - (1st Competitive Team)

I'm new to the competitive scene, but enjoy it very much. Would like to see some critique of my team and have the experts (YOU) break down my holes. I have peaked around at 1500 rating, and have used a team like this or similar to this on multiple occasions. I don't claim to be amazing at battling yet, I have a lot to learn... And this place is a start for me.

The base of my team is a defensive wall, specially defensive wall & special & attacking sweepers & wall breakers

Heatran @ Air Balloon
move 1: Lava Plume
move 2: Flash Cannon
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Toxic
ability: Flash Fire
item: Air Balloon
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Def

This is the defensive wall of my team. I prefer to run him defensive set so I can always have a real check to Choice Banded Talonflame. This heatran build eats brave bird for breakfest and forces switch outs letting me either Stealh Rocks or Toxic his switch in. With air balloon he temporarily has immunity to ground type attacks, leaving me only vulnerable to water/fighting type attacks. If air balloon isn't in play, a safe switch to one of my flying type pokemon should keep me safe from earthquake/earth-power attacks. Typically heatran doesn't make it out of a battle alive, but with burn support from lava plume, poison support from toxic & switch in damage from stealth rocks, I believe he can cause enough chaos most of the time to let the rest of the guys do work. I love having him switch into a potential will-o-wisp as well. I know flash cannon is replaceable, but you never quite know what a Heatran is carrying and it gives good coverage to kill those pesky fairies

that we all have trouble with.

name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Hyper Voice
move 2: Heal Bell
move 3: Wish
move 4: Protect
ability: Pixilate
item: Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 SAtk
nature: Calm

I consider Sylveon on my team Heatran's partner in crime. I feel like they both can cover each others weaknesses very well and Sylveon eats up special attacks that aren't sludge bomb/wave & flash cannon (which heatran backs up nicely). Wish passing and status curing is really important to me on this team as well. But mainly I can use Sylveon to stall special sweepers and pack a little punch with Hyper Voice. While sylveon does keep Dragons in check, I must be careful about taking an Earthquake or other physical type moves from Dragons. I am provided with excellent coverages against Lati@s.

Scizor @ Scizorite
Move 1: Bullet Punch
Move 2: Bug Bite
Move 3: Defog
Move 4: Roost
ability: Technician
Item: Scizorite
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4Def
Nature: Adament

I REALLY like this set and will have to consider seriously changing it. I have priority in bullet punch, I have power in bug bite, and roost support with a nice prediction against a switch in fire type. Scizor can eat up a lot of attacks that aren't fire, and the defog support can help me clear up hazards. I know I can't take special attacks very well, this is where I count on a switch into sylveon or another one of my pokes that have coverage against my opponent. Scizor eats up popular dark type pokemon for breakfest and has great coverage against Azumarril with a priority bullet punch.

Special Attacker
Landorus-I
move 1: Earth Power
move 2: Psychic (i'm thinking of HP Grass or grass knot for quagsire - rotom wash, thoughts?)
move 3: Focus Blast
move 4: Sludge Wave
ability: Sheer Force
item: Life Orb
nature: Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

This guy is a BEAST of a wall breaker. Coverage against mega-venusaur, tyranitar, aegislash (ohko by earth power) heatran and several other threats to my team. I love his coverage and this guy has won me so many games keeping him stock piled for a mid to late game sweep, or used earth to mid-game as a fantastic wallbreaker. Priority is a problem, and while base 101 speed is not bad, it's certainly not the best.

Latios
Special Attacker
move 1: Draco Meteor
Move 2: Psyshock
Move 3: Thunderbolt
Move 4: Recover
ite: Life Orb
Nature: Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Latios has a move pool that varies, I stuck thunderbolt in there to provide a little bit of coverage against Flying/Water types that might switch in since Landorus has coverage against dark type pokes. I also have great coverage against Venusaur as a last resort if i've lost my Landorus. I outspeed most Dragons and can 1HKO them with a draco meteor. He hits hard and fast. Thunderbolt gives me coverage against water/flying types that I outspeed or don't have priority against.

Talonflame
Move 1: Brave Bird
Move 2: Flare Blitz
Move 3: U-Turn
Move 4: Will-o-wisp
Item: Choice Band
Nature: Adament
evs: 252 atk / 252 spe / 4 hp

The last person on my team i've switched around several times. So just as a filler, I'll use the high skilled hard to use pokemon Talonflame. His set should be self explanitory, as its probably one of the most overused ones in the OU metagame currently. Fighting types, or any pokemon without any defensive investment are doomed to get wrecked by a choice banded brave bird.

This is a team I've made... Obviously, and i'm sure there are holes/problems, whatever. I currently stream & wifi battle, so I would like to know what needs to be fixed or switched out in order to have a seriously competitive team with decent all around coverage. I started using some of the teams people have made through rate-my-team and have had a lot of success, so I hope you guys can help me in my success in future battles!!! If I have violated any rules in RMT, I will fix ASAP because I want serious help!! So please let me know!

First off, running it quickly through Marriland's team builder, you have 3 mons weak to water, with only 1 resisting it. You might consider switching Talonflame for a good grass or electric type. Just a thought. Also, on Latios, if you are using him as a special Attacker, I would switch Draco Meteor for Dragon Pulse. If you want ANY longevity on his time-in-battle, you can't afford to have his SpA cut in half. Again, just a thought. Your team seems pretty solid, but I'm definitely not the best Rater out there. Good luck! Also, I know this is kind of taboo, but would you mind rating mine? Or at least take a look.

Again, good luck with your battling!
