RMT - Adieu, Summer

Hello there. This is my 'last hurrah' kind of RMT, as when school starts I doubt I will play except on weekends. It has a couple issues, maybe you guys can help out with some.

________

Team Building Process

Phase One
Normally I don't start with leads, but recently I'd used a Togekiss lead to immense success. I knew I wanted to start off my team with it due to its sheer dominance and fun factor.

Phase Two
I needed a Stealth Rock user, particulalrly one bulky and that could cover Togekiss' weakness. Swampert fit the bill with its excellent typing and electric immunity

Phase Three

I wanted a specially defensive pokemon, but one that could really hit hard. I decided Latias went along excellently in my team.

Phase Four
Latias really struggles against things like Scizor and Tyranitar. I needed something that could, if needed, come in and deal a decent amount of damage to both. Heatran can do about 40% to Tyranitar, and OHKOs Scizor. Tyranitar didn't give the rest of my team many issues, so I decided Heatran would fit right in.

Phase Five
Heatran needed someone who could complement his Ground, Fighting, and Water weaknesses. Gyarados seemed to come from the heavens to this team.

Phase Six
I really didn't see any glaring weaknesses, so I went on Shoddy to watch some battles. Some guy used a BulkyMence to completely destroy another team, so I gave it a shot. It's worked out well.

________

The Team

togekiss.png

Togekiss@Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
Nature: Modest
EVs: 162 HP/ 252 Def /96 Sp. Attack
-Roost
-Thunder Wave
-Fire Blast
-Air Slash

This is a Togekiss lead set which I developed after Metagross usage went through the roof. It is a truly amazing lead. 2HKOs Metagross, while it can outspeed. What's that, Jirachi? Paralyze, Roost the damage off, and lol as you 2HKO it. Hippo? Air Slash flinch rate means they usually get Stealth Rock off and nothing Else. Swampert? Flinched to death. The only lead I really need to switch out on is Aerodactyl. Sometimes I stay in just to see if I can get a para off anyway >:).

swampert.png

Swampert@Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP/ 240 Def/16 Sp. Def
-Earthquake
-Ice Beam
-Stealth Rock
-Roar

I love this Mixpert. Takes physical hits like the pro he is, and can dish out OHKOs to the Dragon family, as well as Gliscor, who is very annoying if Swampert dies. Stealth Rock is immensly beneficial to any team, as well is Roar which has saved my ass multiple times from bad set ups.

latias.png

Latias@Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 Sp. Attack/ 252 Speed
-Recover
-Surf
-Dragon Pulse
-Calm Mind

Standard Offensive CM latias. Really helps me take out crap late game, and with its excellent speed it gives me something reliably fast, as my team is fairly slow compared to most. Considering changes on the set if someone sees something that is more beneficial to my team

heatran.png

Heatran@Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Modest
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 Sp. Attack/ 252 Speed
-Substitute
-Flamethrower
-Hidden Power [Ice]
-Earth Power

I've been using SubTran for a long long while, and I have to say he is insanely useful after all Water types have been dispatched of. I went with Modest because if I am running Subtran, I'm not going to care about outspeeding much, plus I usually have lots of paralysis support from Togekiss. All around an excellent pokemon, and can put a huge dent in anything not named Blissey or Snorlax

gyarados.png

Gyarados@Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 156 HP/ 108 Atk/ 100 Def/ 144 Spe
-Taunt
-Dragon Dance
-Waterfall
-Stone Edge

Extremely annoying and useful set. Late game it really ruins teams. Taunt screws up Celebi and the like, while Gyara is free to Dragon Dance up and sweep. I love it, one of the best sweepers ever. Synergizies well with this team and covers many weaknesses pokemon like Swampert and Heatran have.

salamence.png

Salamence@Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 192 HP/ 140 Def/ 176 Speed
-Dragon Dance
-Earthquake
-Roost
-Outrage

Bulkymence, what? Yeah. It really is underrated. Bulky sweepers can really destroy teams, and beasts like Salamence excell at it. Roost is such a godly move on Salamence, I love coming in on Tyranitar and Roosting while they are locked into a Stone Edge, getting in a DD when I can. if you haven't tried this, I suggest you do. These EVs allow for a Jolly Lucario outspeed, and Life Orb gives me the needed punch for lots of KOs.

________

I seem to have issues with some Rotom formes, but other than that everything has been okay for me. Comment, Critique, etc.

Hello! =)

This is a very well thought out team, except for two things. This team has three Pokemon that are weak to Stealth Rock (and no Spinner), plus a massive weakness to Dragon Dance Tyranitar. In fact, after running some damage calculations, I found that every member of your team is OHKOed by Dragon Dance Tyranitar (except for Swampert, whom is 2HKOed) by either Crunch, Aqua Tail, or Stone Edge (standard DD TTar). I have a way to combine your need of a Spinner and a way to counter Tyranitar: Foretress. Here is the set:

205.png

Foretress @ Shed Shell
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Hp / 112 Atk / 144 Def
0 Speed IV
Relaxed nature (+Defense, -Speed)
~ Spikes
~ Gyro Ball
~ Rapid Spin
~ Explosion / Reflect / Rest

Foretress is a great Pokemon for your team, able to counter Tyranitar, Spin away Stealth Rock, and lay down Spikes; all things that are very benificial to your team. The moveset is simple: Spikes allows you to lay down a good entry hazard that, when combined with Stealth Rock, means that your opponent will be taking 25% damage each time they switch in (assuming one layer of Spikes are down). Gyro Ball is great STAB, and coming off of 104 Speed, offers you an 100 base power STAB attack against anything with at least 195 Speed. Rapid Spin gives you a great way of Spinning away Stealth Rock, which greatly hampers your team.

The final slot depends on what you want Foretress to accomplish. If you want him to be able to Spin away Rocks and then hurt the opponent, Explosion is a good choice. If you want him to further support the team, then Reflect works well. If you want Foretress to have more longevity, then Rest is a good option; beware, however, of giving your opponent free turns to set up. The EVs, nature, and IVs, make Foretress's Gyro Ball hit hard, and allow Foretress good defenses. I would replace either Latias or Heatran with Foretress; you don't need three special attackers. Replace him with whichever one you think is doing the least for your team.

Anyway, I hope I helped, and good luck! =)

Its a good team, like the lead tried it a while back and works like a charm, so keep it. What I will say about bulky slower teams is that they get beat by Dragon Dance users such as Gyarados, Salamence, Tyranitar. Out of these guys, bulky Gyarados seems to be a bigger problem. Come in on Heatran or Swampert for that matter and Taunt it until it keeps DDing. Actually some bulky waters might be trouble like offensive cune. Latias is also a problem, because it will force a switch-out on unboosted Salamence and proceed to CM. Unfortunatley, the only way you could patch this up is by slapping a Choice Scarf on Latias to check DD Gyarados, CM Latias, and just add some "safety" speed in case some faster pokes trouble you. Overall "fast" pokemon can force switch-outs and can screw you over. Adding a little speed will work fine.

Latias
@ Choice Scarf
Timid Nature (Spe+ / Atk-)
252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe

- Thunderbolt
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Trick

This Latias is great and will serve as a nice addition thanks to its speed. I already mentioned that adding more Speed can be welcoming to check DD Gyarados, CM Latias and even CM Cune. Thunderbolt will OHKO Gyarados. Draco Meteor is a great move when you want to take huge chunks from the opponent. Surf is a great move when you want to 2HKO offensive Tyranitar and Scizor. Trick is great against Stall Teams and opposing crocune. Trick can screw around with it, and give your team mates a free set-up.

As for other options - you can really use Hidden Power Grass to hit opposing bulky waters such as Swampert, Vaporeon, etc. Ice is not really needed. I would just maximize Swampert's EVs to 252 / 252 so it can survive Outrage from Salamence 98% of the time and take approxmetly 3 CB Crunch's. With your current one, you fall to cb tyranitar's crunch in two shots (according the the above poster). overall gl.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

Looking now, I see that DDtar is infact a huge issue. However, Forretress really isn't the type of Pokemon I am looking to add as it really doesn't do much to help me other than DDtar.

Replacing my Latias set seems like a great solution, thank you Franky. I will fix that.

Heatran seems like he's sort of redundant in my team, I will look into other pokemon, but Forretress just doesn't mesh well in this primarily offensive team.

Edit: Sorry, which Pokemon did you say should use HP Grass Franky? I was considering putting that on Heatran because of the annoyance of Vaporeon and the like.

Personally, I think Heatran should carry Will-o-wisp instead of HP Ice. HP Ice is generally only used for Salamence, Gliscor, and Flygon. However, your Heatran seems to be set-up fodder for Gyarados and some Tyranitar, not to mention an easy switch in for Swampert. Physical Salamence, Gliscor, and Flygon are all completely crippled by Will-o-wisp, and in your case, with three set-up sweepers, crippled is sometimes better than killed, because it gives you the set-up fodder you need. Since Dragon Dancers seem to really trouble your team, you can use Heatran as a lure for them. After seeing flamethrower, they'll probably switch in, happy that there's not Lava Plume to burn them. That's when (preferably safely behind a substitute) you hit them with Will-o-wisp and cripple them. The Earthquake to follow (from Tyranitar, Gyarados and Salamence) allows an easy switch to ANY of your three set-up sweepers, and essentially gives them a free DD or CM. The only thing here that will completely beat Heatran is Taunt Gyarados (and if you switch Latias to a Scarf Variant, you should be able to beat it anyways). Think about it. It's all about synergy.
