RMT: Desert Storm

Desert Storm

Introduction:

This team was created in an effort to prove to my friend that sandstorm teams can work very well regardless of the fact that most of the pokemon on these teams are weak to generally the same types, therfore making it easy to demolish. This team revolves around sandstorm and how easily it can wear down teams, this combined with Stealth Rocks and the general bulkyness of the team can make it a very hard team to bring down if used in the hands of a competant trainer.

Game Plan:

This team was built around the ability sandstream. Sandstorm provides various useful scenarios that this team takes advantage of including: Stoping leftovers recovery, Wearing down the opposition especially if they are using Life Orb, Providing an incredibly useful boost to the special defense of rock types, Providing Sand Veil pokemon a very annoying up in evasion. The team rellies on it’s ability to take hits but dish hits out too.

Hippowdon@ Leftovers
Sandstream
252 HP 252 Def 6 Atk
Impish
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off

Description:

Using Hippowdon as my lead provides me with the most vital part of the team: Sandstorm. Not only does it provide me with sandstorm it also carries the very useful and usually gamemaking move stealth rocks. This pokemon, with it’s incredible HP and defenses paired up with an instant recovery move, is one of the best physical walls out there. Often causing switches and switching in, this pokemon plays a vital role in setting up my team.

Shuckle@ Leftovers
Sturdy
252 HP 252 Def 6 SpDef
Impish
- Toxic
- Rest
- Knock Off
- Encore

Description:
This Pokemon can be such a nuisance. His sky high defenses allow him to take hits other pokemon would normally fear. His annoyances don’t end there, knock off ruins many strategies including leftovers recovery which neutralises sandstorm damage. Encore allows me a chance to set up with other key players in the team namely Garchomp. Toxic paired with sandstorm withers down pokemon quickly. Rest is there for shuckle’s longevity.

Tyranitar@ Choice Band
Sand Stream
Adamant
252 HP 120 SpDef 138 Atk
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Pursuit

Description:

My second sandstream pokemon. Another pokemon with sandstream might seem stupid but I’d rather not take chances with an Abomasnow ruining my teams strategy. Plus being a rock type provides him with the very useful special defense boost that allows him to take special attacks without being scared. Choice band was put there to make up for the drop in attack due to the defensive EV spread. This team has few problems switching so choince band works well in this team.

Garchomp@ Leftovers
Sand Veil
Jolly
252 Atk 252 Spd 6 HP
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Swords Dance
- Substitute

Description:

The main sweeper for this team. Taking advantage of Sand Veil gives this usually bulky pokemon last even longer and allow him to set up even more easily. I put substitute on him to give him a chance at setting up a substitute and subsequently a swords dance on a switch or misses due hisability. After setting up, the landshark will be hard to stop.

Metagross@ Iron Plate
Clear Body
Adamant
252 HP 252 Atk 6 Def
- Meteor Mash
- Bullet Punch
- Ice Punch
- Explosion

Description:

The first of the pokemon that help counteract the glaringly obvious type weaknesses apparent in my party. This Metagross was designed to switch in on whatever my team is weak against like rock, steel, grass, ice, dragon with it’s resitances and great defense. Not only can it switch in on this but it handles many pokemon quite nicely and if used correctly can take down several pokemon.

Bronzong@ Life Orb
Levitate
Relaxed
252 HP 128 Atk 128 Def
- Trick Room
- Gyro Ball
- Explosion
- Light Screen

Description:

My second pokemon used to protect my other pokemon from their weaknesses. This pokemon can switch in on many of the common types that my team might be facing. This is the counterpart of my metagross in the fact that he is more defense oriented than him. He can still take down pokemon using gyro ball on pesky gengars and other speedy threats that can hurt my team. This bronzong also doubles as a supprot bronzong by providing light screen for the none rock pokemon not protected by the sandstorm, and by providing trick room support for the obviously slower pokemon on my team.

Conclusion:

This team was built to try to show that, even though most sandstorm teams have very similar weaknesses and often pay for that, there are still many ways to get around that and make a very competitive team that works well in many situations. I would really enjoy to receive constructive critiscism especially about pokemon that might be threats to this team. Thank you and please rate my team.

well a azelf with grass knot and flamethrower can be a problem to this team and so can a mixnape with hiddenpower ice, although im not really sure what to replace to counter them

I'd probably go for Hypnosis over Trick Room, seeing you don't really have any pokes that would benefit greatly from it, and it'd be detrimental to Garchomp. Metagross isn't exactly extremely slow either, so I'd definitely change that myself.

I'd also change the item on Metagross to Life Orb or Expert Belt, or maybe even Leftovers. Plates usually aren't so great, especially since it'd only boost one of your moves modestly.

Garchomp shouldn't use Yache if you're running substitute, because they'll be hitting the sub instead of you. You can run either the Standard Yache set meaning Fire Fang over Sub, or maybe Life Orb/Leftovers with Substitute. If you use the Sub, then Magnezone will help get rid of Skarmory and Bronzong, the only two that resist the EQ/Dragon Claw.

well yah thats true...i meant if the opponent is faster than it like starmie or weavile, but ya leftovers is better overall

Most of my team is terribly slow (-Garchomp) I think it might help him set up whatever is nessesary and explode.

oh wow i can't belive i didn't notice this earlier...u dont have a special sweeper so a physical wall( glisor) can be quite a pain, i think bronzorg is kinda useless here. try a mixpert to add i bit more variation and type coverage

I don't like this team all that much - remember, on a Sandstorm team not all the members have to resist Sandstorm!

In general, fighters are having their way with you. Your best switchin on Heracross is Hippo, followed by Shuckle. Furthermore, because you really don't have much in the way of Spikes/Toxic Spikes support, if Haxchomp fails, you don't really have much in the way of gamebreaking offense.

I also think you have a fairly glaring Gyara weak.

I'd definitely consider Gliscor over Hippowdon, as they provide largely the same purpose, and if you want you can use a BP Gliscor (with its ability to Taunt, good speed and defense, and the ability to pass both Speed and Attack, it can be a very useful option.). Furthermore, it gives you the best fighting coverage this side of Lugia.

I'd remove Bronzong entirely - this is not a TR team, and using Trick Room for one pokemon just seems silly.

I think Celebi with Grass Knot/Leech Seed/Recover/Reflect really helps your team cover it's major Gyarados weakness, as well as provide support against a host of other pokemon (for example, Celebi can in many cases beat a SD Garchomp)

As you have Infernape problems, I think Tentacruel (252 HP / 148 Def / 110 SDef Bold (or Calm) ) helps fix that, as well as providing Rapid Spin and Toxic Spikes support.

I'd make Metagross a SDef oriented Restalker; (252 HP / 48 Atk / 216 SDef Careful) with EQ/Meteor Mash/Rest/Sleep Talk - it's useful in taking status for you, and helps you hold up well against threats like Gengar.

I would make Tyranitar your lead, possibly making it an all out attacker (110 HP / 252 Atk / 148 Spd Adamant)

With these changes, you fix your biggest weakness (fighters in general), your second biggest weakness (Gyarados) while maintaining the Sandstorm strategy, adding Toxic Spikes to supplement the strategy, and shoring up your defensive coverage.

Brightpowder is NOT illegal.
