RMT for Standard OU

This team's been doing fairly well, nothing outstanding. I think most of my losses come from misplaying rather than the team itself, but I'm sure there's still plenty of things to fix. I based the team around setting up for a Gyarados sweep. I don't want the team to be solely reliant on Gyarados for its offensive needs but as it is right now when Gyarados goes down earlier than I'd like I almost completely lack offensive power as Heatran and Scizor are easily walled when they're choiced.

Heatran (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Mild nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Earth Power
- Fire Blast
- Explosion
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Typical Scarftran. I went with Mild over Hasty because I didn't think I needed to outspeed anything where I would need a +speed nature. I didn't find a dedicated lead really necessary for my team. Also explodes on bulky waters and Porygon2 which Gyarados otherwise can't get past. I wanted to use BaitTran but ScarfTran was generally more useful and it can still explode.

Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 156 HP/252 Atk/100 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit
- U-turn

CB Scizor is just generally really useful for revenge-killing and stuff. Pursuit is also nice for weakening Psychic-types like Celebi, Cresselia, Starmie, and Slowbro to open up for a Gyarados sweep.

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 52 HP/252 Atk/204 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

I went for enough speed to outspeed base 120s after a DD... I haven't found a need for more speed yet except for the occasional Jolteon, and I don't think it's worth losing all that power by switching to Jolly just for one Pokemon (although I've been seeing quite a lot of Jolteon...)

dpmfa260.png

Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 240 HP/216 Def/52 SAtk
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam

I went for both SR and Roar because I didn't think the water move was completely necessary. Swampert sets up SR really easily. Roar is useful to scout the team early on so that I can see Gyarados counters. Lack of reliable recovery really hurts (except from Jirachi's Wish, but it's not always easy to pass Wish...), but Swampert's still a solid switch-in to Heatran and other prominent threats.

dpmfa385.png

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 240 HP/56 Atk/76 Def/136 Spd
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- Wish
- U-turn
- Thunder Wave

Jirachi provides nice support in Wish (mainly for Gyarados, although pretty much the whole team benefits from Wish) and paralysis, and is also my initial switch-in to a lot of threats; although it can't take down a lot, paralysis helps my generally slow team take down things it otherwise wouldn't be able to. I'm thinking of taking out Iron Head for Zen Headbutt so that Jirachi can deal with water- and fighting-types better.

dpmfa251.png

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/220 Def/36 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Grass Knot
- Recover
- Reflect
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Celebi is mainly here to solve my problems with fighters and opposing Gyarados. Reflect prevents Celebi from getting seriously crippled by Pursuit. HP Fire is there so that Celebi can actually fight back against Lucario and other non-Heatran steels. I think I want to make this Celebi a bit more offensive and specially defensive because right now its been largely setup-fodder, and hasn't been the solid counter to bulky waters, Zapdos, and Jolteon that this team kind of needs.

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Mild Heatran cannot outrun Jolteon, and it is slower than almost all other Scarf Heatrans. They generally run Naive, and it is recommended to at least speed tie with these. Naive > Mild, as more threats are physically inclined. If you want that Sdef, I would run Timid - Scizor and Gyarados cover Blissey well enough, so you don't need to resort to exploding on her.

If you want Celebi to be more offensive and specially defensive, make it a CMer. Here's my recommended set:
Life Orb - Timid
Grass Knot
Calm Mind
HP Fire
Recover
80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe

It makes an excellent Lucario counter with enough speed to outrun speed boosting nature base 90 pokes. If it CMs as Zapdos switches in, Zapdos can only 2HKO with Heat Wave if it has 252 SAtt and a LO boost. Otherwise, you just alternate between CM and Recover till you get +6, and then sweep. Your +1 LO Grass Knot will also OHKO 252 HP / 4 SDef Ttar; only the Careful 252 HP / 216 SDef TTar can safely swap in.

Keep Iron Head on Jirachi. Celebi deals with the Water and Fighting pokes fine. With Paralysis, I feel Jirachi doesn't need those speed EVs. I know 136 Speed EVs is for Heracross, but he's not as common as he used to be; people prefer Scizor or Machamp these days. Heracross is still beaten by prediction - CC is walled by Celebi, Megahorn is walled by Heatran, everything else is easy to wall. You also have a solid Tyranitar counter (Swampert), so I don't feel that you need 36 Speed EVs to outrun it too. Have 252 HP / 56 Attk / 200 Def. The defenses help, especially when Jirachi lacks Protect to make Wish a reliable healing move for itself.

The only suggestion I'm unsure about is Heatran's nature: For this particular team, Heatran isn't switching in on many physical attacks since I have Gyarados (and Scizor and Jirachi, although they aren't solid Scizor "counters") to take Scizor's Bullet Punches and Scizor and Jirachi to take Outrages, while Heatran is one of my main switch-ins to special attacking threats such as Gengar, Porygon-Z. I'm still debating whether I want +speed or not; I don't see outspeeding Jolteon, Aerodactyl, and other ScarfTran as particularly important, but I don't know how important the extra power is either.

Other than that all your suggestions look good and I'll be testing them out.

ahh, I fought this team countless times on my alts (t3ch, 955,) and I agree, you had no support for your offense . I was the one using the Rain dance team with Azelf and Scizor. I think that on Jirachi, you might want to use Protect, Wish without protect just seems...pointless. I think that you should run a specially oriented Jirachi with wish and protect, like an offensive wall, running Tbolt and Psychic. This way you can deal with waters that come in on you. Psychic works well because, well tbh there were a crapload of ghosts on Shoddy today.

I dont see where your lead helps you at all. Like you said, you're walled because you carry a scarf. Why not a Subtran lead? You can support with WoW, and deal damage. It works better imo because Scarfrachileads are huge, so you can easily set up the sub as they run and then WoW the incoming Gyarados while behind the sub. It's definately worth it to change your Gyarados to Jolly, especially if you're going to be getting DD's up. This way you can at least tie other Gyarados (if they get Dragon dances up) and hit them with Stone Edge. Also, why switch out if you have the potential OHKO on Jolt?

Addressing initially what darknessmalice said, if you are scared of other Scarftran / Jolteon then run Naive, but as long as you keep Swampert, Celebi, or Gyarados healthy, you can probably keep those three at bay anyway lol. In terms of lead Tran you might want to try Shuca Berry Tran, It is by far the best Tran to lead with, it basically guarentees you Stealth Rock (unless your opponant catchs on and taunts) If you go with Subtran like DarkArtisan suggested run Sub / Toxic / Fire Blast / Earth Power, as it will be an excellent Lure for those Bulky Waters.

I agree completely with Darknessmalice about Celebi, as long as you don't switch into an Ice Beam, you will be fast enough to CM first and use them as set up fodder. You will also deal hefty damage to Tyraitar switching in. I don't know if the Life Orb is nessecary, even with Recover it could be a little detremental but hey, test it out. If you're worried about Scizors powerI don' see why you couldn't run the Life Orb Swords Dance set from the analysis. I mean Celebi does quite well against it's counters and it will help you to power through Gyarados' Counters with hard hitting +2 X-Scizzors. Here is the set:

Scizor @ Life Orb
Adamant Nature / Technician
EVs:
~ Swords Dance
~ Bullet Punch
~ X-Scissor
~ SuperPower / Roost

Roost will increase your logevity, but super Power will hit things like Heatran switch ins etc... Hopefully it will give you that extra power that you feel that you need in this team, incase Gyarados goes down earlier.

Well thats all I could see, but then again I can't always tell :P If you are having and specific team wide problems, feel free to post a threat list so that I can help you to sort those out. Good luck with your team =)

You should lead with Swampert to get an early SR. I dislike Thunder-wave on jirachi as ground types are common switch ins and you can't afford to let them get in for free. Change Thunder-wave into Body Slam, 60% paralysis with serene grace is great. Seeing as you are utilising paralysis you don't need speed evs so throw them elsewhere (probably defense).

Base 120's arent that common so I suggested you drop gyaras speed to 184 speed evs, to outspeed base 115s. The extra Hp evs will help you a whether hits a lot better from things like heracross.

Out of all the rates here, I can't believe that nobody has pointed out the Zapdos issue we have going on in this team. Zapdos walls your whole team, regardless of what moves are on what Pokemon, nothing can actually kill it, or at least scare it away. In offensive terms, Zapdos means trouble as well, Hidden Power Grass / Thunderbolt / Heat Wave pretty much say whats up to more than half your team, so we really need to fix this issue. I disagree with a post above, Celebi does NOT make a Celebi counter, if you say Celebi is a Zapdos counter when a Zapdos 2HKOs Celebi with Heat Wave, then something is wrong. You can fix this issue by adding something that can take Special Attacks, such as Special Defensive Tyranitar, which Thunderbolt will be doing little, and can handle the other moves, so something to really consider. You can always take the easy way though, just make your Heatran more Special Defensive oriented, to take hits like Tyranitar will, but I'm not sure if you want to lose Choice Scarf. If you make Celebi more Special Defensive oriented, Celebi will lose the point of being on the team, which was to handle other Bulky water type Pokemon, so you the best idea would be to replace it with a Tyranitar if you're going to take that option.

Swampert seems like a better lead than Heatran, you should save Heatran for some late game or something. Scizor can use Swords Dance, so it will help you if you don't want to be stuck on a move too.
