ORAS OU RMT Mega Venasaur. My first team.

Hello all. This is my first* team build on RMT. I use this for both VGC 15, and smogon 6v6 OU battles. Please give me some help on this team as it is doing pretty good for me, but it seems to be a 50/50 chance of winning, depending on reads and hacks.
venusaur-mega.gif

I built my team around Mega Venasaur. This thing is a beast. It stalls out most things really well, it is super bulky, and has very few weaknesses. I am not usually a fan of stalls, but I am tired of getting beaten by this thing, and I like this pokemon so muck more the Mega Kangaskhan.

Mega Venasaur: AKA Senju
Position: Mega, Stall, Fairy & Water killer
Item: Venasaurite
Ability: Overgrow/Thick Fat
Nature & IV's: Bold, 31/15/31/31/31/31
EV's: 252 Hp, 150 Def, 106 SAtk.
Moves: Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Leech Seed, Protect

I rarely lead with Venasaur, but if I do, I almost always open with protect so I can Mega. I also use Protect after I throw out leech seed, which I only do if I am desperate, or they do not have a safe switch in. Giga Drain is my recovery and grass weakness killer. Sludge bomb is for when I need a neutral Stab, or Poison weak killer (aka Sylveon).

milotic.gif

My next Pokemon I picked was Milotic. It takes care of Mega Venasaurs 1.5x fire weakness. Thick fat helps, but a flare blitz from any heavy attack pokemon, or Overheat from Heatran will do serious damage to even Mega Venasaur. Milotic has serious recovery abilities and bulk. It can cover weaknesses like Heatran, Talonflame, Salamance, and really most other threats to my Mega. The Competitive boost is really nice as well if I can predict an intimidate or stat lowering move.

Milotic: AKA Calypso
Position: Mega Venasaur switch cover, Flying/dragon/fire killer, secondary stall
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Competitive
Nature & IV's: Bold, 31/11/31/31/31/31
EV's: 252 HP, 252 Def, 6 SDef
Moves: Scald, Ice Beam, Recover, Protect

Scald takes care of any water weak pokemon with a nice status chance. Ice Beam kills almost any dragon in 2 shots, especially if I have a competitive boost. Protect is used when I need some leftover recovery or move I need to block, and recovery is a really nice stall move.

bisharp.gif

My next Pokemon I picked is Bisharp. I love its shiny form, but more importantly, it can destroy Psychic types that really threaten Mega Venasaur. It is frail and kind of slow so I try to never switch this pokemon in unless it is 100% safe to do it. It is also my secondary fairy killer. I also like to run Defiant on it for those stat lowering moves that raise my attack.

Shiny Bisharp: AKA Ashaman (WoT community!)
Position: Item removal and Psychic/fairy killer.
Item: Focus sash
Ability: Defiant
Nature & IV's: Adamant, 31/31/31/31/31/21
EV's: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 6 HP
Moves: Knock off, Sucker Punch, Iron Head, Protect

I love knock off stab on this pokemon. I can usually only get 1 off before it goes down, but it is usually a clutch play. If I can predict it, and I know it will take the pokemon out, I will risk the sucker punch priority. Protect is usually used for scouting or to waist the other pokemon's protect so I have a fee sucker punch later. Iron head is there just to take care of Fairy types.

talonflame.gif

I actually started with my favority pokemon in the world here: Infernape. But no matter how hard I tried to make it fit, Talonflame did almost everything Infernape could do better. So Talonflame is the next pokemon that I picked. Again I picked it because it handles threats like Mega Beedrill, Mega Metagross, and a bunch of other pokemon I cant even think of. Sometimes I will open with Talonflame to scout the other team, and U-turn out if I have to. This pokemon is so OP!

Talonflame: AKA Fiale (WoT Community!)
Positiion: Flying/Fire weakness killer, Scout
Item: Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
Nature & IV's: Jolly, 31/31/31/14/31/31
EV's: 252 ATK, 252 Speed, 6 HP
Moves: Brave Bird, Flare Blitz, U-Turn, Aerial Ace

Brave Bird is crushingly powerful and when Banded, this can OHKO almost anything even neutral. Flare Blitz is for coverage against Steel types and does the same kind of damage brave bird does when Banded. U-turn is my scouting move if i am sure I can outspeed the other pokemon. Aerial ace is just a filler move as I have no other move slot I can think of.

donphan.gif

I picked Donphan next because I have a Steel and Poison weakness, and I needed a rapid spin, entry hazard pokemon. I picked Donphan because it is one of the bulkier ground types that has decent attack stab as well. I was looking at Garchomp, but its weaknesses made me think again, and it didnt solve the enty hazard weakness. I like to open with this pokemon to take care of hazards then pull him back until I need to rapid spin. The bad thing is this pokemon is so slow. Even with IV's it is really slow, so I opted out of any speed IV's and went for a lot of defense instead.

Donphan: AKA Ivory
Positiion: Hazards, Hazard removal, Steel killer, Potential opener
Item: Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
Nature & IV's: Adament, 31/31/31/9/31/31
EV's: 252 HP, 252 ATK, 6 SDef
Moves: Earthquake, Rock Slide, Rapid Spin, Stealth Rocks

Earthquake is a really powerful stab that can take out Aegislash in 2 hits even in defensive mode. Rock Slide is my Flinch hacks and flying killer, and the last 2 moves are pretty obvious.

sylveon.gif

Lastly is one of the best new pokemon in the Meta. Sylveon is such a great pokemon. I am really unsure if I want to use it as a Cleric or a Massive damage user. Either setup works well, but I can only run 1, so please help me out with this build. As of right now, I kind of met in the middle, though I don't love the build.

Sylveon: AKA Pixie
Position: Damage and Cleric
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Pixilate
Nature and IV's: Bold, 31/15/31/31/31/31
EV's: 252 HP, 200 SAtk, 58 Def.
Moves: Hyper Voice, Protect, Wish, Heal Bell

Hyper voice hits like a MAC Truck, even when not fully Special Attack invested. If I ran full attack on Sylveon, I would run Modest Nature, 252 SATK, and Choice Specs. Even so, life orb does a bunch of boosted damage, and I can recover it back with wish/protect easily. I also use Wish to heal pokemon I need to switch back into. Heal bell is a nice back pocket move that not many people expect me to have.

SO, that is the end of my team. Please let me know what you think and what adjustments you think I need to make. As I said, I use this for both VGC 15, and 6v6, so either comments are helpful, though I really need more help on the 6V6 side.
Thanks and Shiny Infernape Forever!

Not bad! As a first team, it's not that bad - or at least better than my first team. Heck, it even has good defensive synergy. However, there are a few things that need to be addressed. Keep in mind that I will be viewing this as an OR/AS OU team, and will make changes as such. Any sets that I mention will be posted below.

Pokemon:

Milotic: While it certainly has a usable niche in VGC '15, when it comes to Singles, Competitive becomes a lot less important, and it loses it's biggest niche. A better choice for a bulky mono-water in Singles is Suicune: Instead of relying on Competitive to dish out damage, Suicune has access to Calm Mind, allowing it to wall the same Pokemon that suicune does while reliably boosting its Special Attack. The ability to abuse RestTalk also gives it instant and full recovery while still allowing it to boost during its sleep turns.

Donphan: While this Pokemon looks good on paper, it falls flat on its face in practice. If you want a Spinner, Rocker, and Ground-type, Specially defensive Excadrill should be your go-to 'mon: It takes hits better than Donphan and smacks Rotom-Wash due to Mold Breaker Earthquake, while still being able to do what you have Donphan for.

EVs and Moveset:

First, a note about EVing in general: If you have 4 EVs left to place, do not place them into HP. This will increase the amount of passive damage that you take, like from Sandstorm or Life Orb, due to Pokemon always rounding down damage numbers.

Also, as this is singles, I would start with removing Protect from every Pokemon except Sylveon. due to the nature of Singles, Protect is usually just a waste of a moveslot.

Venusaur-Mega: Since you mentioned that you don't appreciate playing in a stall-oriented manner, I would change this set to the Offensive variant. It's still bulky, but you don't hit like a wet noodle either. Synthesis will allow you faster, more reliable recovery than Leech Seed.

Suicune: Milotic's replacement can only really run one viable set in OU, which is CroCune, named after the creator. It can take physical hits better than Milotic, and can abuse a larger recovery with RestTalk, which Milotic can't really pull off. It's actually a really cool win condition that too many people don't prepare for; just get rid of the opponent's Electric and Grass types and their Water immunities and Suicune can usually net you a win.

Bisharp: Since it's quite one-dimensional, you've almost already got the viable Bisharp set; just replace the Focus Sash for a Life Orb or Black Glasses and you're set. Now, to replace Protect, Bisharp can run two different moves: Pursuit or Swords Dance. Pursuit allows you to cleanly remove Psychic-types trying to switch out and pair well with Black Glasses, while Swords Dance is a high risk, high reward choice that abuses a switch-out by doubling your attack; Swords Dance works well with Life Orb. However, the more that I look at this team, the more I think it'll acually benefit from Low Kick; while an uncommon move, your team has no Fighting-type moves whatsoever, and it allows you to beat Heatran, which gives your team a lot of trouble, so that's my personal recommendation. All three choices are fine, though.

Talonflame: Aerial Ace doesn't really serve a purpose when you have Brave Bird. On Band sets, the recommended last move is Tailwind, as it gains priority due to Gale Wings and allows the Pokemon that comes in after Talonflame faints to easily revenge-kill the opposing Pokemon. However, I think that a different set completely will benefit you more; as of now, you have no way to break through Stall teams. Talonflame also forms a fantastic Fire-Water-Grass core with Mega Venusaur and Suicune. As such, I think that Stallbreaker Talonflame will be more useful than a revenge killer set. While you lose Flare Blitz, you didn't really need it anyway due to your team composition, and this makes sure that you don't get 6-0'd by every stall team you see. Its Brave Bird still hits pretty hard, too.

Excadrill: As I have mentioned before, Donphan's replacement should be running the Specially Defensive variant, as it does practically everything that Donphan does, but better.

Sylveon: This is a tough one, but in the end, I believe that the Choice Specs variant will be the beneficial one. Basically nothing can switch in, as Hyper Voice is an effective 175 Base Power move factoring in Pixilate and STAB, without even adding the Specs boost! It also beats a lot of common Pokemon on the switch: HP Ground can be used for Heatran, Shadow Ball can be used for Mega Metagross, and Psyshock beats the special walls that think they can take a hit. Specs Sylveon also appreciates Talonflame's Tailwind, should you choose to run the Revenge killer set over the Stallbreaker set.

Conclusion:

Not a bad team; the biggest change I think I made was the switch to Stallbreaker Talonflame. Everything else was just a little bit of optimization. This should be able to hold you off on the ladder for a while. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot: Change the Attack IVs on all Specially-Attacking Pokemon to 0. This minimizes the damage taken from Foul Play and Confusion.
