Ill admit, im new to the XY OU metagame, but im learning fast, im up to 1661 using mainly this team at the time of writing this up, I am a former D/P/P Player, and nearly all fixes will be considered at the very least so long as you have sound reasoning and arent like OMG ROSERADE SUCKS USE VENU LOL
I REALLY HATE FIGHTING GRENINJA WITH THIS TEAM, like alot, its the only thing i fear going into a match (besides the occasional Charizard which is usually managable)
Also at the end of every poke, i wrote how willing i am to change or tweak it
Gyarados-Mega @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimiate/Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Stone edge/ice fang/bite/taunt/substitute
- Earthquake
- Dragon Dance
The mindgames you can play with mega gyra are one of the many reasons why i love it so much, a perfect example is being against a terrakion and them playing the guessing game of stone edge or CC, im still a bit unsure of my last coverage move, at the momentstone edge is I feel as if stone edge fills the coverage gap on my team better than ice fang in this case i have plenty of ice moves also it hurts mandibuzz and zapdos quite a bit more at the same time, i feel like garchomp and grass types kinda laugh at gyra alot of the time without ice fang, im not sure if bite is even good enough, and i dont feel the need to run taunt or substitute, but im open to the idea, anyways very open to tweaking and experimenting not just with the set, but with the pokemon slot itself
Gengar @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Taunt
- Counter
- Destiny Bond
I made this set in gen 4 as an anti-lead and i love it so much, it ALWAYS trades at the very least, and can take down half a team in the right circumstances, the idea behind this is to assess your opponents lead, if they lead with say bisharp or dragonite, then just go for counter, most of the time they will go for pursuit/dragon claw, your sash will activate and then you get the KO, when they bring the next poke out, as long as it isnt a priority user, you have free reign over it whether its taunt, shadow ball for the easy kill, or destiny bond to take it with you, the tricky parts is when they bring out a poke like ferrothorn which can kill you with leech seed OR gyro ball for instance and that becomes a guessing game for yourself, i also love taunt to stop pokes like landorus and heatran from setting up rocks and phasing and such, essentially this is the poke that gains lots of momentum, not to mention i always have an out to a physical sweeper ruining my day, hes my favorite poke on the team and there is a 0% chance im replacing him
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Defog
- Roost
I used to run toxic, but realised i wanted Twave alot more often, it really sucks having nothing to do against landorus though, I ran zapdos because i realised i needed something to check waters something that had good resistances, as well as being a good support poke zapdos happened to fit the bill pretty well and obviously still does, i run 0 attack IV's because foul play is a thing and zapdos needs all the bulk he can get, i did consider running a specially defensive set, but partially because of my respect for azumarill that i run a physically bulky set (the other part because i have alot less physical bulk than special bulk on this team, this baby can take a +6 aqua jet from max attack adamant azu after stealth rocks and counter attack with a lethal thunderbolt
One final note, trying to squeeze U-turn on this set, but im beginning to feel that gen 6 that zapdos has a pretty bad case of 4 moves syndrome
Will probably tweak
Roserade @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Venusaur is generally better, but I'm in love with this roserade, It hits much harder than venu can ever hope to, beats a fair number of mega venus as well as alot of other top tier pokemon such as keldeo 1v1, and to top it off, its a great sleep lead, in my experience, fewer and fewer people are running speed boosting natures on pokemon who have 100 base speed or less, so this thing is almost always faster than those pokes at 305 speed, my favorite thing about this set is that no one ever expects HPfire and a fair amount of the time, scizor or ferrothorn will switch in, and technician HPfire OHKO'S 100% of the time, in addition, people seem to love to lead with azumarill, and roserade is a decent counter and with this movepool, it also happens to threaten alot of the things that want to switch into it (unfortunately not heatran) I will reluctantly replace this if needed
Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 30 SpA
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- HP Ice
- Flash Cannon
Good ol' Scarftran, once again no one ever expects it (seeing a pattern here?) this thing is a great revenge killer and outspeeds everything i need it to outside of a few other scarfers, one of the things i considered was replacing HPice with stealth rock, but i feel as if i did that, that i would be missing a valuable coverage move, which is why i enjoy HPice and honestly, this team doesnt need stealth rocks as badly as most. i feel like alot of the pokes are either strong enough on their own, dont benefit enough from stealth rocks, or it just is counter productive to defog them away will definately tweak
Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Superpower
Mamoswine has been one of my favorite competitive pokes since its debut in Diamond and Pearl, crazy dual stab, and amazing moves, as well a great priority move against quite a bit of the metagame, superpower is there for chansey and another way to kill ferrothorn, but thats basically it, his dual stab is good enough to cover everything else, not to mention he has a valuable electric immunity which this team enjoys very much, my favorite part about playing him is seeing a team and noticing that EVERYTHING has a mamoswine weakness ;)
chance im going to change him id say its about 50%
Anyways thank you
