RMT OU Rain

CHANGES ARE IN BOLD

Hey Smogon! So I was having a lot of trouble coming up with a well rounded standard team, I found it very helpful making my team more offensive. Then I thought trying a weather team and decided to go with a highly offensive rain dance team. At first everything went great i went 15-1 or so but now that I've had 5 straight losses I've stared to see it's limitations. Priority moves and obviously weather changers, particularly Hippowdon, are tough. So here's what I've got (shoddy name is psyk btw):

Electrode @ Damp Rock
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 252 Atk/228 Spd/30 SAtk
Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Explosion
- Rain Dance
- Taunt
- Thunder
---
Outspeeds everything expect Deoxys, Ninjask and fast scarfers and proceeds to taunt the sleepers and spikers or start the rain. If it's survives the first round I explode or occasionally switch if I don't fear the damage to usually Kingdra.

Kingdra (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 168 Atk/88 Spd/252 SAtk
Naughty nature (+Atk, -SDef)
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Waterfall
- Rain Dance
---
The general ruel of thumb is Waterfall or Surf everything that doesn't resist it and Draco Meteor the resists. Rain Dance if the rain ends. Can handle almost anything but something that can take a hit and Thunder Wave. Defensive walls give it trouble if I've taken Draco Meteor's Special Attack drop. Taking hits and Life Orb wears it down eventually or the rain ends.

Kabutops (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 30 HP/252 Atk/128 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- X-Scissor
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
---
Focus Sash ensures I survive the switch in or can Swords Dance if I'm already in. Also great at breaking walls with a Swords Dance. Only problem is its completely dependant on the rain since it's slow and frail. Piority moves also stop it since it has 1 hp a lot of the time. Despite the problems I think it's spot is pretty concrete.

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 72 HP/252 Atk/184 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
---
Comes in late game Dragon Dances and cleans up what Kingdra and Kabutops leave behind. If it's raining great if not oh well.
---

dpmfa448.png

Lucario (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 6 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Extremespeed
- Crunch
---
Mainly uses Extremespeed for clean up or fast and frail sweepers like Azelf or Dugtrio. The only thing that can handle Gengar if it's not raining and only if it doesn't Hypnosis it. Good counter for Tyranitar if it hasn't Dragon Danced. I'm not so sure about Lucario though...
---

dpmfa272.png

Ludicolo @ Damp Rock
Ability: Swift Swim
Spread:204Hp/76SpA/124SpD/104Speed
Calm Nature (+Special Defense - Attack)
-Rain Dance
-Grass Knot
-Ice Beam
-Leech Seed
---
Thanks Eersnot. Replaced Gengar. Some things I considered changing were 204 SpA EVs to always OHKO Garchomp, but decided against it since Garchomp hasn't really given me any problems. I also thought about putting Surf over Leech Seed because this team is so offensive I can't really stall and Surf would be boosted by the rain. In the end I kept Leech Seed for breaking down walls that are giving me trouble.

So there it is. I know it's a Rain team but I think I'm over dependant on the Rain and with only three Rain Dancers, two of which are frail and often blow themselves up and one that usually dies before the Rain runs out this is bad since I only get a total of what 10 turns of Rain is it. Electrodes lucky to be around 2 turns, Kingdra gets worn down, Kabutops can only last in the Rain and is stopped by priority moves, Gengar tries to bring back the rain and usually can with Lucario taking on what he can't , this leaves Gyarados to sweep up the mess which he can do quite often.

The biggest threats are things faster which if I have the Rain on my side is usually things that can get in an Agility. Empoleon tore me apart doing this. While a Surf from Kingdra OHKO's Hippowdon, not much else likes him because of Sand Stream, Gengar does ok but I need to keep him alive. Plus there's the counters I've yet to face but you guys are smart and can probably see them better than I can.

I was thinking of maybe switching Lucario for Electavire or Aerodactyl. Electavire can switch into the inevitable Electric attacks a team with 3 water types will bring and get the speed boost. Aerodactly brings strong fast attacks thats' types cover weaknesses well but also brings a third electric weakness. I would greatly miss Extremespeed so maybe switching Lucario for something like Breloom with Mach Punch would be better. Some other considerations are Tangrowth, Jolteon, Bronzong, Honchkrow, etc...

Thanks a lot!

3 Life orb's Meh.. Well its a good team in my opinion but a roserade can do quite a bit of damage on your team.

What are you talking about? Everything on this team at least 2HKO's Roserade and 5 out of 6 of his Pokemon out-speed it.

On to your team..

Gengar is too frail to function well on a rain dance team and i see you lack of a wall, I can see Gyarados taking care of physical hits but you have nothing to cover you on the special side of the spectrum. So with this is mind replace Gengar with Ludicolo. Ludicolo brings A capable sponge of sorts with its great typing, not only that but it takes of the burden on kingdra supplying Rain dance, and it can still hit pretty hard.

Ludiculio @Leftovers/Damp Rock
Ability: Swift Swim
Spread:204Hp/76SpA/124SpD/104Speed
Calm Nature (+Special Defense - Attack)
Set:
-Rain Dance
-Grass Knot
-Ice Beam
-Leech Seed
EVs get maximum leftovers recovery. 202 speed which in rain outrun scarf Heracross . The EVs in Sp. Def and Hp let you survive a specs Draco Meteor from Salamence.

when it comes to your weather changer problem, just get one of your own like tyranitar and it always helps to have a castform in this kind of team
Both suggestions are terrible. Castform is crap, and its counter productive to have a tyranitar changing the weather to sandstorm when his team is a RAIN DANCE TEAM.

Anyways i like stone edge or taunt over ice fang on gyra but thats my preference. Maybe you could fit a ludicolo somewhere on your team maybe for lucario. I also think gengar has no business rain dancing. I'd give more suggestions but im a little tired.

ok you got me there

I just thought I'd point out that you have a focus sash, but no spinner, and with SR being on EVERY team, and if the opponent gets an oppurtunity, then sash is ruined.

Thanks for all the suggestions and for even just reading it. I went ahead and switched Gengar for Ludicolo as Eersnot suggested. I also decided that Lum Berry over Life Orb on Lucario would probably do more good as this team doesn't like statuses and as the unstoppable pointed out I already have a Life Orber. Tyranitar would be too counter productive, Castform is too frail/slow and I really can't find a spot for a spinner plus Electrode can taunt the Stealth Rock leads. As for Taunt on Gyarados, normally I would agree, I usually put Taunt on Gyarados, but not here. Gyarados only comes in to sweep late game, and with almost everything already damaged he can usually finish of whatever would phaze or status him instead of taunting it and I've had no trouble getting the Dance in so far.
