RMT (OU Single)

This is my first Smogon RMT. The team is really terrible as I am terrible at the game. But hopefully I can change that with the help of some of you. So here it goes.

Gengar @ Choice Scarf
Nature:Timid
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
-Energy Ball / Hidden Power Ice
-Focus Blast
-Shadow Ball
-Thunderbolt

With Gengar's excellent movepool and stats, he makes a great lead and is even better at it with a Choice Scarf. He outspeeds just about everything and hits just about everything too. The biggest debate I'm having is choosing between Energy Ball and Hidden Power Ice. Energy Ball will add Grass coverage to my team, and may be prefered over Hidden Power since I already have to Pokemon packing Ice Beam, although Hidden Power Ice may be prefered over Energy Ball for the coverage it grants me over common leads. Please help me on this.

dpmfa485.png

Heatran @ Leftovers
Nature: Modest
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 100 SAtk / 60 SDef
-Earth Power
-Lava Plume
-Rest
-Sleep Talk

Rest Talk Heatran is my answer to Ghost and Dark attacks aimed at Gengar (Except Pursuit) just like Gengar takes Fighting and Ground attacks aimed at Heatran thanks to his immunities. Lava Plume's burn rate can really become a pain in the ass for those lacking Guts, Rest, Natural Cure, Marvel Scale, recovery move, Aromatherapy, or Heal Bell, although even with those it can become a nuisance. Earth Power for coverage and Rest for recovery as well as ridding any status.

dpmfa134.png

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 200 HP / 252 Def / 56 SAtk
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Wish
-Yawn

Vaporeon can turn any Water attacks aimed at Heatran into health thanks to Water Absorb. It can use Wish to recover itself or another member of the team. Surf for STAB and Ice Beam to OHKO most Dragons not packing a Yache Berry. Yawn is there to either A) Force a switch or B) Induce Sleep.

dpmfa492.png

Shaymin @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Speed
-Aromatherapy
-Leech Seed
-Seed Flare / Hidden Power Fire / Ice / Bug
-Rest

I actually originally considered using Celebi for this role but that would add a third Ghost and Dark weakness, something I'm not fond of. Shaymin fares somewhat as well as Celebi anyway. Somewhat. Rest, while no Recover, is managable thanks to Natural Cure. Aromatherapy is no different than Heal Bell, its there to rid my team of status, the only difference is the type of the move. Seed Flare, Shaymin's signature, is there for an offensive attack and the high rate of lowering the opponents Special Defense. However I've also considered Hidden Power Fire or Ice so I'm not easily walled by Grass types, or even Bug because its super effective against Grass types (Except the part Poison ones) and 4x effective against Celebi. Leech Seed is there for additional recovery as well as forcing switches and annoyance.

dpmfa445.png

Garchomp @ Yache Berry
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
-Swords Dance
-Earthquake
-Dragon Claw / Outrage
-Fire Fang

Ahhh, the ever so infamous YacheChomp. After a Swords Dance he's an absolute monster. Foes may think can kill him off with their Ice attacks but Yache Berry changes that OHKO into a 2HKO. And that could cost the opponent the whole game. Earthquake for a devistating STAB and Fire Fang to steamroll Steel types. The biggest problem I'm having is deciding between Dragon Claw, I strong STAB with no drawbacks, or the monstrous STABed Outrage, while destructive prevents switches for 2 - 3 turns and confuses me afterwards, which could very well be my downfall. Please assist me with this.

386c_1.png

Deoxys Speed Form @ Life Orb
Nautre: Hasty
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
-Psychic
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt
-Superpower

Deoxys which is now OU (for better or for worse) with its acceptable attack stats and absolutely ridiculous speed makes one hell of a late game sweeper. This set gives it wide coverage to pound just about anything. The EVs, while they may look a little awkward, are the thing I'm most uncertain of. With a Hasty Nautre he outspeeds everything except Ninjask with more than 160 EVs and a speed boosting nautre (although he usually leads anyway and gets around this problem with Speed Boost) and opposing Deoxys with a speed boosting nature and 8 Speed EVs or a Pokemon with a Choice Scarf with at least 291 Speed. The reason I chose not to max out or even hardly invest in speed is because max Speed Deoxys is while the fastest thing in the game, still screwed over with priority moves and anything with 336 Speed and a Choice Scarf, something not too difficult to reach, so I just maxed out its attack stat because it isnt exactly meant to take hits, which also happens to be the reason I armed it with a Life Orb.

In Closing:
Well that was my team. Its probably terrible I know, but I'm hoping someone can help me fix it. One thing I could note is that with moves like Leech Seed and Yawn, it would be nice to have Spikes or Stealth Rock to take advantage of the forced switches.

I actually really like this team, and I really like the Shaymin, it seems to really fit nicely in here, since celebi would give you that 3rd ghost/dark weakness. Really nice job here. Leech Seed is such a great move.

Thanks for the help! I'll be sure to make those changes as soon as I firgure out how to work the freaking edit thing. Any words on Shaymin?

You don't want Energy Ball on Gengar, Hidden Power Ice grants you more coverage than Energy Ball ever could.

I can see this team is very solid so I wont suggest any drastic changes. The only thing I suggest is that you put Hidden Power Electric over Yawn on Vaporeon. This way you'll be able to handle Gyarados better. You have 3 pokemon with Ice moves so Shayimn having another one would be overkill stick with Seed Flare this way you wont be missing out on Gengar's would have Energy Ball.

You should definitely go with Hidden Power Ice on Gengar as your Deoxys-S is slower then a scarfed dragon.
I also think Thunderbolt is somewhat unecessary on Gengar. Deoxys-S already handles Gyarados, and Shaymin and Vaporeon is already true counters for any water pokémon. Hypnosis or Explosion is worth consideration, for general usefulness.

Deoxys-S should invest a lot more EVs in Speed. :/ It isn't outrunning any users of Scarf, which is Deoxys-S' selling point. Consider running 455 Speed (72 EVs) to outrun neutral Garchomp. 479 Speed (160 EVs) will let you outrun a neutral Gengar, while 500 Speed (236 EVs) will let you outrun a Jolly Garchomp. Investing so much EVs in Attack isn't necessary, as Superpower still will 2HKO Blissey and OHKO Tyranitar and Weavile. You'll need 277 Atk to OHKO Mamoswine with Stealth Rock on the field, though.

Oh, I suggest putting some HP EVs from Vaporeon in Special Defence. HP Electric isn't really necessary considering Gyarados doesn't threat this team all that much, but if you want to take on Salamence you'll need some Special Defence. Protect > Yawn will give you a reliable recovery move, and is a generally more useful move (for scouting and recovery purposes).

Also considering Vaporeon got Wish I believe Heatran could work nicely without RestTalk. A Scarf-set is worth consideration, as it will obviously outrun a LO-Gengar. I've seen some people run Stealth Rock on it too, which is a great way to get them on the field.

No real rate, just some suggestions. (:

Thanks everyone! I'll make the changes as soon as figure out to freaking edit it. I'm going to use Hidden Power Ice over Energy Ball on Gengar while continuing to run Thunderbolt. Deoxys is going to receive 236 Speed EVs to reach 500 speed, and I probably will use Protect over status or Hidden Power on Vaporeon. However I'm going to continue to use Rest + Sleep Talk on Heatran for the time being so he can recover on his own, and at the moment use Outrage on Garchomp and see what happens. Any additional opinions are welcome. Thank you!

I think Gengar should remain Timid. It allows him to outspeed Infernape, and max speed Mismagius I believe?

Perhaps, Tangrowth over Shaymin if he's supposed to be your physical wall. It does everything Shaymin does, only has power whip over seed flare.

Definately Dragon Claw on Garchomp. Being locked into Outrage, then confused really sucks.
I agree, that Deoxy-S should have some more speed EVs.

Your team does look pretty good.

Outrage is fine, as it will give you a chance to OHKO any bulky water. You'll also 2HKO any Cresselia iirc. You should be Adamant, though.

You'll OHKO Vaporeon 43.75% with a Adamant Yache Outrage, and that's without Stealth Rock. You'll never OHKO with Jolly nature unless you run Life Orb. Seeing how Vaporeon don't ruin your Yache Berry, stuff like Deoxys-S, Gengar and Mamoswine is unable to revengekill you, and personally I believe that's better then outrunning some random base 100 Pokémon.

You raise a good argument. I actually only found the Jolly speed to be neccesary when I found myself 1 v 1 with an opposing Garchomp, and even then they had Jolly and got lucky a killed me. I'll go change to Adament.

By the way I almost forgot. While your here Rag how many HP EVs do you recommend I take away for Special Defense EVs for Vaporeon to deal with Salamence?

44 SpD and 156 HP will always let you survive two LO-DM from Salamence, and still prevent you from being 2HKO from Infernape.

Ok thank you! Anyone wanna tell me how to use the edit thing? I double click on it and nothing happens except the little hourglass showing up and I've waited I good ten minutes, I mean I know my computer is crappy but still. And then I right click on it and select Open Link, and I get an error message.

at the bottom of your post, there are three buttons
"quote" "apostrophe" and "pencil"

i lied, there are four buttons. one of them should say "edit".

I think that Deoxy-S only needs enough Attack EVs to OHKO Max Hp Tyranitar and any 2HKO Blissey with Superpower, which is only 100 EVs with 31 in Attack and a Life Orb. Even with the -1 Atk with Blissey.

I'd put the rest in Speed, as it allows you to outspeed any Adamant Scarfed 'Chomp and hit it for the OHKO Ice Beam (as the scarf means no Yache). Also puts you ahead of any Base 95'er with Scarf. Both of which your current set doesn't do.

One thing I just took notice of (although the need hasn't really come up in any battles) is a phazer. Your thoughts?

If you're using Yawn on Vaporeon (If you still are, that is :P), that phazes nicely. Otherwise, you probably won't need a phazer. HP Electric is a more effective option, as a DD Gyra will beat it with a taunt.

Until the fucking Edit option decides it wants to work, here's the updated team:(Changes in bold)
