Either I suck or this team sucks, let's find out shall we?
I love banded Goodra, but I can except that Hydreigon is better for that slot as I do need a Psychic Switch-In. I also don't want to run more than one S Rank on my team (already have Gatr), but if it's absolutely necessary, I'll use Hydreigon
Sceptile-Mega @ Sceptilite
Ability: Lightning Rod
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Focus Blast
- Giga Drain
I created this team based around Sceptile. I got tired of all the water types in UU, as well as annoying sets spamming T-Wave all the time. Sceptile easily deals with most Water types, and it can also switch into a lot of attacks with it's strong resistances. The set is the "All-Out Offensive" set on the Smogon website. I chose Giga Drain over Energy Ball because I haven't been in any situations where I felt that I wouldn't rather recover health instead of spam a move. I chose Focus Blast over HP Fire because it still does a lot to Forretress while avoiding bringing Custap variants to their Sturdy, and I have a Nidoqueen that can also deal with any Forretress better
Feraligatr @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Ice Punch
- Dragon Dance
I wanted a set up sweeper that could be a general Win-Con in a lot of situation, and I thought Feraligatr would have great synergy with Sceptile because Sceptile could get rid of Bulky Water-types, which are the main Pokemon that stop Gatr's sweep. Feraligatr often comes in handy as a Win Con or a wallbreaker, especially against Reuniclus. My set is also a Smogon standard set. I don't want to use Substitute because I rarely use it until late-game, so I would likely have gotten rid of faster threats that could OHKO me from full, and I'd rather DD on a predicted switch. I can see SD over Ice Punch being helpful to augment his ability as a Wallbreaker, but again, I'd rather DD up on whenever I can for the extra speed. I also chose Jolly over Adamant because, in my opinion, Gatr doesn't need the extra power, as jolly can still OHKO frail threats like Mienshao, Beedrill, as well as a high chance to OHKO Heliolisk with Crunch after Stealth Rock damage.
Nidoqueen @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 180 HP / 244 SpA / 84 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock
The one thing that I noticed about Sceptile and Feraligatr is that they're very frail (in just Sp. Def for Gatr), and, especially Gatr, are crippled by status moves. Nidoqueen is immune paralysis and poison, sets up stealth rocks, switches into and deals with fairy and steel walls, and, as I mentioned before, is able to deal with Custap Forretress, by first Ice Beaming to keep it from going into Custap range, then E-powering for the KO. I didn't need T-Spikes on her, as I do have tentacruel, and I needed the coverage provided by the 3 attacking moves I gave her.
Aromatisse @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect
- Aromatherapy
A huge problem for this team was Hydreigon. The choice was between this Pokemon and Florges, but I chose Aromatisse in the end because of her physically defensive bulk, and its ability is really good because it can't get Encored or Taunted, meaning it can use its non-attacking moves whenever it wants, and inexperienced players may end up wasting a turn because they didn't realize what Aromatisse's ability does. Aromatisse serves as both a Cleric and a switch-in to many 'mons besides Hydreigon, such as Banded Heracross, which would otherwise deal with Florges somewhat easily.
Goodra @ Choice Band
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 212 HP / 248 Atk / 48 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Power Whip
- Iron Tail
Here is where I'm not completely sure I made the right decision. I needed a strong specially defensive mon that could do more than just swith-in to attacks and do very little back. This is why I didn't use the more standard A-Vest Set, and already having 2 strong Special Attackers, I decided on more Physical power for my team. Banded Goodra is actually great; no one sees it coming and it makes more use out of its ability. I've been in many situations in which having the CB was great and won me games because I killed off my opponents Florges when they expected me to be walled. The only thing I'm not sure of is whether Hydreigon would do better on my team because I lack a Psychic Resist and have a lot more speed to help me out. I'm reluctant to make this change, however, because I love Goodra's bulk, unpredictability, and I don't like running more than one mon that's ranked in the "S" tier, as I already have Feraligatr, but I'll make the change if necessary.
Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 180 HP / 244 SpA / 84 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
Finally, I needed a spinner that could wall other 'mons as well as be able to serve as another way to deal with things that Aromatisse walls, but can eventually overwhelm it. I like tentacruel because it can do even more than just spin; it can scald, knock off, and set up its own hazards. It's speed is also really helpful in many situations, such as against a weakened Nidoqueen. Tentacruel also serves as a great way to intimidate Leech Seed/Giga Drain users, mainly Roserade, which Sceptile always has trouble with.
