Introduction

Hello, well I'm new here and this is my first RMT. Anyway, hope you like the team and I am Brazilian, so patience with me please, because my English is horrible!

Team Building Process:

Well, first off I want start a team with Starmie, just because I love Starmie, and with its speed and decent special attack, it will give troubles for any team without Snorlax and Blissey. So I needed some pokemon that could end the happiness Blissey and Banded Tyranitar appeared to be the perfect partner for her with his powerful Pursuit, which also helped a lot against scarfed Latias, other Starmies, Jolteons etc. So my team was

dpiconani248.gif

Then I added a Gyarados on the team because he also has its counters removed by Tyranitar, helped a lot against Lucario, if I get locked in Pursuit and serve as a late game cleaner with ResTalk and and gave a great status absorver. But unfortunately it was completely stopped by Vaporeons, so I put SubToxic Heatran, as it can attract Vaporeon and bulky waters in general and to end their happiness with Toxic. So the team was:

dpiconani248.gif
dpiconani130.gif
dpiconani485.gif

Well, then I had a good solid core and lacked someone who could use Stealth Rock, taking a look at the team, I saw Celebi gave an excellent Stealth Rocker and has formed a good partnership with Hetran and could give some support to the team with Reflect. So the team:

dpiconani485.gif
dpiconani251.gif

Then, turning to the time, I realized I was missing a revenge killer, so I looked for a pokemon that can cover a wide variety of pokes, especially Salamence Dragon Dancer, and that is not weak to Pursuit or the SR. Jirachi was perfect for the job.

After the team was finished it was time to decide the lead. And Starmie was the best for this position, because it's good against most commonly used leads and could also scouter which counters the opposing team has against her.

So, the team at a glance:

PKMN_121___Starmie_by_pnayshoujo69.jpg

Ruby (Starmie) @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf
/ Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Recover

Lead with the goal from the start of the thump and push the opponent, not to say that it works wonderfully well against most of the leads and attracts the most common pokemon that Celebi counters, that can go out and set up SR.
The moveset is standart, but I'm considering use Hydro Pump for the extra power, but the accuracy is a problem which can cost the game.

Here, Starmie vs. Top 15 leads:

dpicon482.png
-Azelf - Surf for the 2HKO, and she cannot do much back as they usually only use Psychic and Fire Blast to attack. But sometimes I bring Tyranitar to the field, if is some version of TW, Dual Screen etc.
dpicon376.png
-Metagross - Surf for the 2HKO, but the explosion is very annoying. Sometimes I bring Celebi for set up Reflect and SR.
dpicon260.png
-Swampert - Bring in Celebi
dpicon142.png
-Aerodactyl - Surf
dpicon385.png
-Jirachi - Most use U-turn, so I change to Gyarados or Heatran
dpicon392.png
-Infernape - Surf, but Endeavor is really annoying
dpicon407.png
-Roserade - Ice Beam for break the sash and take sleep. Then switch for Gyarados to take the second Sleep Powder and back to Starmie. But I hate the Toxic Spikes
dpicon485.png
-Heatran - Surf
dpicon235.png
-Smeargle - Surf for break the sash and take sleep. Then switch for Gyarados to take the second Spore and back to Starmie.
dpicon450.png
-Hippowdon - Surf, but sometimes I use Ice Beam.
dpicon248.png
-Tyranitar - Dangerous, as they all use pursuit, I lose my Starmie right at the beginning of the game.
dpicon472.png
-Gliscor - Ice Beam, sometimes Surf
dpicon149.png
-Dragonite - Ice Beam, but Extremespeed is really annoying
dpicon437.png
-Bronzong - Bring in Celebi to use SR
dpicon169.png
-Crobat - Annoying with Super Fang, but Jirachi can kill her.

Smoky Quartz (Tyranitar) (F) @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP/164 Atk/92 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Pursuit

- Earthquake
/ Aqua Tail

Tyranitar has the function of removing the counters of Starmie and Gyarados for them to be happy.
The EVs are to outspeed Skarmory, with a maximum HP is the best way to maximize the two defenses while the rest went to the Atk.
The doubt is between Earthquake and Aqua Tail. With EQ I can beat Lucario and Heatran with a super effective moveTyranitar has the function of removing the counters of Starmie and Gyarados for them to be happy.

The doubt is between Earthquake and Aqua Tail. With EQ I can beat Lucario and Heatran with a super effective move and with AT I can hit Gliscor and Hippowdon. But as Gliscor is faster and can heal with Roost and kill me with EQ and Hippowdon already killed by Celebi, I think EQ is a superior choice.

PKMN_Gijinka_Project_Gyarados__by_Ethevian.jpg

Sapphire (Gyarados) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP/224 Def/32 Spd
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Dragon Dance
/ Roar / Stone Edge
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Gyarados is the Status Absorber, late game sweeper and counter for several pokes as Scizor, Lucario, Machamp, Infernape, Heatran etc. This set is the standart Waterfall to attack it gains STAB, ResTalk to heal status and Dragon Dance for increasing your stats and sweeper in the late game, But I'm thinking about changing for Roar, because baton pass chain is a major problem for the team. Stone Edge is also there for me to have a response to other Gyarados.
The EVs are the analysis, to pass pokes with 90 base speed with a positive nature and maximize the defense.

___Heatran____by_vinnick.png

Spinel (Heatran) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Toxic
- Substitute

Heatran adds several resistances to time, make combo with Tyranitar and Celebi and Starmie. It attracts Suicune, Gyarados, Swampert, Blissey and Latias wiping them out with your Toxic.
Well, the moveset and EVs are quite obvious and standart. Fire Blast for STAB and Earth Power for coverage. Max SAtk to hit hard and max speed because he had no place more useful = D

___PKMN_151_Celebi____by_sas_chan.png

Emerald (Celebi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/216 Def/32 Spd/8 SDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Grass Knot
- Recover
- Reflect
- Stealth Rock

Stealth Rocker, great partner for Heatran and a great help against Gyarados, Electives and Reflect it protects the team against Pokemon as DD Mence, Metagross and Explosions.
The moveset and EVs are standarts, max HP to maximize overall defenses, 32 Speed beats even Jolly Tyranitar, 216 Def with Bold gives me the extra point and the rest in SDef.

Pokemon_Gijinka__Jirachi_by_shiloh0.jpg

Alexandrite (Jirachi) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- Fire Punch
- Trick
- Zen Headbutt
/ Ice Punch / Thunderpunch

Jirachi is a great revenge killer, helping out against Pokemon like Salamence, Dragonite, etc. Tyranitars. Trick scarf is also a weapon against stall teams and also for late game sweepers, as Crocune, Lucario (helps a lot if he cannot change moves), Curse Lax etc.
The doubt is about the last move. Zen Headbutt help against Infernape and Machamps, while Ice Punch serve mainly for Salamence and Gyarados to be ThunderPunch.

Threat List

Here the greatest threats to the team:

dpicon373.png
- Salamence - DDMence is the biggest threat to the team, as it will depend on a speed tie with jirachi, but SR + Sands help to kill him.

dpicon376.png
- Metagross - AgilityGross is another poke that hinders my happiness, especially those with Lefts, but Reflect, Gyarados and Heatran help against him

dpicon395.png
- Empoleon - Agility Empoleon is another poke that hinders the team, but Celebi and Starmie has a chance against him

Okay, welcome to smogon!

The first thing I'll like you to change is your current starmie set. Here is a piece of the analysis where your current one is:

A set utilizing Rapid Spin in the last slot over Recover makes for an effective anti-lead. Starmie's typing means it naturally resists many of the attacks used by other common leads, su.ch as Infernape's STAB attacks, Azelf's Psychic and Fire Blast, and Metagross' Meteor Mash and Bullet Punch. Rapid Spin is a great boon to a leading set as it allows Starmie to inflict...

Basically, just change Recover to Rapid spin =P.

Adding rotom-h over heatran will fix your Agility Gross weakness

Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Bold | 252 hp / 168 def / 88 spe
W-o-Wisp / T-bolt / hidden power fighting or shadow ball / overheat

Also, I would like for you to change gyarados to a bulky dragon dancer

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Adamant | 156 HP / 72 Atk / 96 Def / 184 Spe
Bounce / Dragon dance / Waterfall / Taunt

Celebi has natural cure, which imo can absorb status. Taunt can stop statusers from statusing Gyarados, though. This team can use a dragon dancer, and the Rest talk set is more viable in stall anyways.

Also, change Tyranitar's EVs. You need the most attack you can get,

252 atk/164 hp/92 Spd works well you also said that tyranitar is your check for lucario, well. Lucario outspeeds it and OHKO's with Close combat. This is why Earthquake is pretty pointless on it, and Aqua tail is the better option.

Celebi's EVs can also be revamped.

The standard 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 Spe are standard for a reason. They work wonders.

To fix your Salamence weakness, put ice punch over trick on jirachi. This will allow you to (hopefully) outspeed mence after a DD, and KO.

Empoleon isn't a threat as Gyarados's taunt shuts it down from subbing, and Celebi / Starmie can do the rest.

Happy Holidays!

I'm going to start off by saying that Starmie is an amazing pokemon, capable of killing many pokemon and sweeping through teams that lack a faster pokemon. The problem is, is that your current Starmie is set more for mid to late game sweeping than leading. For a Lead Starmie, you need Hydro Pump over Surf for the extra damage on Metagross and other bulkier pokemon that aren't weak to Water-Type moves. Rapid Spin is also needed as a way to not only rid the field of Spikes or Stealth Rock, but to finish off any Pokemon whose Focus Sash has been activated, like Aerodactyl.

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP | 252 Sp Atk | 252 Spd
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot
- Rapid Spin

Thats the set I'm currently suggesting. Grass Knot is needed for lead Swampert. I'm not exactly sure on the EV spread, as there's probably a better one that'll still get the same KOs and get a bit more bulk to take Earthquakes or whatever move Starmie will see in the lead spot.

Another thing I noticed is that your team is built around a regular LO Starmie rather than a lead one that won't be around very long. I suggest moving this Starmie out the lead spot, and just keeping the same spread, maybe putting in Rapid Spin over Recover. You're then obviously going to need a new lead. I would put Heatran there instead, with Shuca Berry over Leftovers and Stealth Rock over Substitute. On Celebi then, you can then put Thunderwave over Stealth Rock, as Heatran will have it.

Edit: If you feel as though Heatran is ineffective as a lead, you can just go ahead and use Celebi with the spread you currently have and leave Heatran as is.

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP | 252 Sp Atk | 252 Spd
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot
- Rapid Spin

Thats the set I'm currently suggesting. Grass Knot is needed for lead Swampert.

I don't know... I've been in the metagame a decent amount of time, and not once have I ever seen a Swampert lead. They're usually brought in later. I'd replace Grass Knot with a Psychic move, namely for the STAB you get out of it.

You are garunteed a 2hko swampert with Hydropump and you have Celebi for swampert anyway. So thunderbolt would be the prefered option for Gyarados and Vaporeon. Hydro pump is really needed on Starmie, it gives it that extra power allowing it to 2hko and OHKO many threats it otherwise could not (Rotom, Metagross, Swampert, Tyranitar, Scizor).

I also feel the team would be more effective taking an offensive root. Making Gyra into a bulky DD taunt set and Celebi in a Life orb set would help. A life orb modest leaf storm from celebi will OHKO offensive suicune, even after a calm mind (93.6% - 111.1%). The team is offensively based and therefore you want to continue to pile on offensive pressure, instead of slide back to a stallish style of play which your team is tailored for.

Gyarados set (importable):
Gyarados (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 156 HP / 156 Atk / 196 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Taunt
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge

Celebi set (importable):
Celebi @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Stealth Rock

stop NECROPOSTING

I know Bloo will sweep in here and lock this (and hopefully delete this post too) but I just don't want anybody else wasting their time on a 2 year old thread
