XY OU RMT Release the Kraken: Mega Gyarados

Hello and thank you for coming. I'm coming at you today with an rmt for one of the big OGs, Gyarados, in his mega state. The idea behind this team was to create a team around mega gyarados, supporting him so he can use his awesome power and mold breaker EQ to win the game.

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Bite
- Waterfall
- Dragon Dance

I set up gyarados with max power and speed to be ensure his speed dominance and OHKO/2HKO potential. He hits really really hard with waterfall and even bite to a degree. Bite I use for coverage against psychics and other weak targets, and earthquake moldbreaker is really strong obviously. Most of the other pokemon in the team are built around supporting gyarados, clearing away potential threats or roadblocks to his sweep, and putting him in the perfect position to do what he does best. Destroy everything.

Ferrothorn.png

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- stealth rocks

Ferrothorn plus gyarados resists a lot of things, and ferrothorn also takes electric and grass hits that might otherwise hurt him, as well as leech seeds and spores. Theres not too much to say as its a really standard set and ferrothorn is one of the most used pokemon in OU tier. And its because hes damn good and he protects Gyarados two of his most feared typings.

Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon

Even though they have good synergy, ferrothorn is also one of gyarados' greatest challenges. With no real way to get over him, gyarados can get leech seeded and protect stalled to hell and back, not to mention paralyzed. But with magnezone ferrothron is ruined. Hidden power fire obliterates him with 4x super effectiveness and prevents him from escaping. He can also be used against scizors and skarmorys, both of which also pose a challenge to the kraken.

Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
- Roost

Latios is really good. He has defog to remove rocks and stuff, and he can clear out venusaurs with psyshock, and powerfull walls with draco meteor. He has the roost to heal himself too. Hes a source of fast and powerful damage while providing utility.

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Heal Bell
- Wish
- Protect
- Hyper Voice

The demon. I see Sylveon played mostly in 2 ways, calm mind setup and wish/heal bell cleric. I decided that I needed heal bell because gyarados is immune to a grand total of 0 statuses, and a prankster thundurus t-wave really shuts him down. Wish is for revitalizing my pokemon when they get low, or trade in hits with another pokemon. Protect is for scouting moves and hyper voice is a really powerful special attack to give it some offense against dragons.
talonflame___flambusard_by_yonaka_pinku-d6pm59c.png

Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Will-O-Wisp

The definition of beast. Choice band talonflame is literally the bravest bird. Bird spam checks not only super effective targets, but pokemon like mega gardevoir, charizard and others can also get OHKO'd by a brave bird from this setup. Its incredibly strong and provides a fast way to get rid of high priority targets. Flare blitz is for killing more steel types and u turn gives my team so momentum to maybe scare an enemy into thinking im going to brave bird/flare blitz and forcing them to switch into an unfavorable matchup for gyarados and then forcing them to either take the hit or switch again, hopefully all the while taking stealth rocks damage.

Conclusion
Please do not hesitate to pick apart the team, ive only ever capped at 1600 on the ladder so i am by no means good. I would love to hear any criticism on how i could improve this team with switches to EVs moves or the pokemon themselves. Thank you so much :)

Hey Bro, nice team

Run Ice Fang on Mega-Gyrados instead of Bite for coverage against Grass types.

Talonflame's EVs should be changed to 8 HP / 248 Atk/ 252 Spe as you take less damage from Stealth Rocks.

Also, just a nitpick but Surf on Latios is a nice touch for more coverage. But roost is fine depending on your playstyle.

Hope it helps!

Btw, your images are huge, can you downsize them please?

Thanks for the advice, ill switch out ice for ice fang. After playing a few more matches i found out that my team is walled pretty bad by heatran. Keeps switching out when i bring out gyarados and i cant effectively take it out with anything else, do you have any ideas for this?
Also sorry about the image size, i didnt know how to make them smaller :X

You could try Earthquake>roost on Latios to lure heatran, although heatran is great set up bait for your gyarados. I think sylveon is definitely the most expendable member of your team, will give a detailed rate later :]

I personally would try Tailwind over Will-O-Wisp on your Talonflame as it can aid Gyarados and possibly Magnezone late game in cleaning up without Gyarados having to resort to DD in order to outspeed certain things, plus you get Gale Wings Priority so you'll have almost no problem using it.

Gyarados should definitely be using Ice Fang over Bite, as was said before. Remember that Mold Breaker negates Think Fat, so at +1 it's a 2HKO on Mega Venu.

Ferrothorn always has the option of using Protect, preferably over Power Whip. It's not a requirement, but it works very well with Leech Seed and Leftovers.

Magnezone looks fine to me. You could run enough speed to outpace minimum speed Skarm, but since Brave Bird does nothing to you, it would only serve to prevent Defog or rocks.

Latios looks fine as well, but you could replace Roost for coverage as mentioned above. EQ would definitely help with the Heatran problem. With a Hasty nature:
0 Atk Life Orb Latios Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 328-390 (85.1 - 101.2%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
That is standard specially defensive Heatran.
Your other options are HP Fire/Fighting, Surf, T-bolt, or Memento. You could also switch to Latias and use Healing Wish.

Sylveon I think is not quite as good as Clefable, but it is definitely usable. You should definitely switch the spread to 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpD Bold to avoid the 2HKO from LO Latios Psyshock.

Talonflame should use Tailwind or Sleep Talk if you stick with the CB, but you could switch to Sharp Beak and use Roost for longevity.
