ORAS OU RMT: Talonflame Team

I decided to make a team with the best bird pokemon starring in it, Talonflame.
Talonflame @ Life Orb
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
- U-turn

Talonflame is one of the best sweepers in the OU metagame. This is a classic set for a physical talonflame. Flare Blitz can take out stallers such as Ferrothorn and Klefki. Brave Bird has priority so it can take out fast fighting types like Mega Medicham and Mega Gallade. Roost also has priority so Talonflame can heal itself if it is in a pinch. U-Turn can be used to deal damage on the opponent's pokemon while retreating.

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes Gyro Ball
- Leech Seed
- Toxic Power Whip

Ferrothorn is one of the best stallers in the OU metagame. I'm using Ferrothorn as a hazard creator and a bulky physical attacker. I coupled Leftovers with Leech too ensure maximum healing after each turn. Ferrothorn can also be used as a counter to the 4x rock weakness that Talonflame has.

Conkeldurr @ Choice Band
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- Thunder Punch
- Fire Punch

Conkeldurr is used in this team as a physical sweeper that can also be used as a counter to the rock types that give Talonflame trouble. I gave Conkeldurr the ability iron fist and all punch moves of different types. I gave it a choice band so it can possibly get a free OHKO for the team.

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 184 HP / 252 Atk / 72 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Facade
- Roost

Most people use Gliscor as a staller but I am using it as a Physical Sweeper and as a counter to electric types such as Raikou. I gave it the standard toxic orb/poison heal combo to give it lots of healing along with roost to help set up swords dance with earthquake.

Espeon @ Lum Berry
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Curse
- Zen Headbutt
- Morning Sun
- Last Resort

I used a weird type of Espeon that no one normally uses: a Curse Espeon. I saw it used in an ubers battle and it swept the likes of Groudon and Xerneas. Magic Bounce will help so that it can't be statused from toxic and t-wave. Curse will help set up a stab Zen Headbutt and, after healing with Morning Sun, a powerful Last Resort. I gave it a Lum Berry in case it gets statused from physical moves with secondary effects.

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Pain Split

Last but not least we have the classic specially defensive Rotom-Wash. This set is self explanatory as it is another counter for rock types and used to stall with Pain Split and Will-o-wisp. The rest of the set is self explanatory.

Overview:
Physical Sweepers: Talonflame, Gliscor, Conkeldurr
Sponges: Espeon
Walls: Ferrothorn, Rotom-Wash

I could use all the help I can get so I can get back into 1500+ in the OU Ladder. All suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey fartfart2, your build has potential but a lot of your sets could use improvement.

Your Ferrothorn set is way too susceptible to Taunt users, and it outright loses to literally any Pokemon that runs Substitute. Rocky Helmet is also a bad item on Ferrothorn since it doesn't mainly check physical attackers, and it doesn't help it beat anything it normally can't, plus Physically Defensive Ferrothorn fails to check Kyurem-B and Manaphy. You should run a spread of 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD on Ferrothorn with Leftovers > Rocky Helmet. You should also run a moveset of Gyro Ball / Power Whip / Leech Seed / Stealth Rock on Ferrothorn so it can check M-Altaria, M-Gardevoir, Manaphy, M-Gyarados, Slowbro, etc. much more reliably.

If you're running Talonflame you need to have hazard removal since if you don't you literally will lose half of your health to Stealth Rock every time it switches in. Life Orb is a really bad item on Talonflame since it takes enough recoil as it is, plus the additional damage output doesn't allow it to beat anything it can't without a Sharp Beak or no boosting item at all. U-Turn is only really viable on Choice Band Talonflame, and if your intention of running Talonflame is for it to be a sweeper then you should be running a boosting move like Swords Dance or Bulk Up. Since your team doesn't have a single Keldeo check, and since your team needs hazard removal to support Talonflame, you should run Latios > Espeon. Espeon isn't viable in OU in general, but a Curse set isn't good on it at all since it has an abysmal Attack Stat, subpar Special Defense, and if it only runs a Psychic attacking move and a random Normal type move it just outright loses to the plethora of Steel types in the tier as well as M-Sableye. Plus with Curse dropping your speed you'll just be easier to revenge kill by powerful Special Attackers, which is makes running a Jolly Nature and max speed very redundant.

As I said before, your Talonflame set needs some adjustments if you're using it as a sweeper. Since your team is fairly bulky and you have nothing to really take on the common checks to Swords Dance Talonflame, you should run Mono Attacking Talonflame with Swords Dance + Will-O-Wisp with > Dual STAB + U-Turn Talonflame to allow Talonflame to burn its common checks like Tyranitar, Landorus-T, Garchomp, Hippowdon, etc. so they have a harder time checking it. Since your team doesn't have a mega, you should run Swords Dance M-Heracross > Conkeldurr since it's a much better Fighting type wallbreaker, and it has great synergy with Will-O-Wisp Talonflame since they break down each others checks very well as it is, plus having a majority of M-Heracross' checks being potentially burned makes it much harder to check.

If you're running Swords Dance on an offensive Ground type then you're better off running Garchomp or Landorus-T than Gliscor since Garchomp has better dual STAB and speed, and Landorus-T has Intimidate to help it set up easier, plus a higher attack stat. But since Gengar and Calm Mind Clefable that run Thunder Wave can be an issue to this team, as well as Hidden Power Fire Latios, you should run Specially Defensive Gliscor > Offensive Gliscor. By the way, you shouldn't be using Gliscor as a "counter" to Electric types like Raikou and M-Manectric since they always run Hidden Power Ice for BoltBeam coverage, so you'd be better off switching Latios into them than Gliscor since it takes much less damage from Hidden Power Ice. Lastly, Specially Defensive Rotom-W hasn't really been a viable set since BW when permanent rain was a thing. Rotom-W in ORAS mainly aims to check stuff like Talonflame, M-Pinsir, Sand Rush Excadrill, and Azumarill, so you should run Physically Defensive Rotom-W > Specially Defensive Rotom-W so you can check all of the aforementioned Pokemon much more reliably.

An alternative route you can take with the team would be to run Hippowdon instead of Gliscor and Specially Defensive Talonflame with Bulk Up instead of Max HP + Max Attack Talonflame. This allows you to fare better against Bisharp, both Charizard-formes, Thundurus, and M-Gardevoir, but is a more defensive approach for the team. I'll leave the imports to both versions of the team below so you can try them both out if you'd like.
