RMT: Team Platinum

Yangoregon's Newest Team
PLATINUM

Team Overview: This is the first team i've made in probably over a month and I feel it is finally time to get it checked out by others. This team consists of alot of the Platinum updates on the movesets. Because I haven't made a team in about a month or two, due to school and such, my ideas on this team may seem "a little" weird.

Honchkrow - Lead
Item: Focus Sash
Nature: Hasty
Ability: Insomnia
Ev's: 224 Atk - 48 SpA - 236 Spe
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Heat Wave
- Superpower

Description: Honchkrow is one of the new great leads of Platinum OU thanks to Insomnia and its great coverage. Pursuit and Sucker Punch leave Azelf and many other leads dead because they will either be KOed by 1. Switching out during pursuit, or 2. Stab Sucker Punch. Insomnia is a perfect ability for any lead and prevents any kind of sleeping status to be afflicted. The main goal for honchkrow is to get some early KO's on some of the frail leads such as Azelf, Gengar, Weavile, and Aerodactyl, and put down alot of damage on some of the more sturdy leads. Heat Wave deals alot of damage to the usual Steel leads and also KO's Roserade. Superpower KO's Tyranitar and Weavile with relative ease.

Team Purpose: Honchkrow's perpose on this team is to lay down massive damage to psychic and dark type pokemon so that Hitmontop and Mesprit can do their jobs. He is basically there to KO most, if not all, psychic types and absorb sleep.
mesprit.png

Mesprit - Anti Sweep
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Levitate
Ev's: 252 HP - 228 Def - 28 SpA
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Hidden Power Ground

Description: Mesprit is a fantastic addition to this team and is a great anti sweeper. Thunderbolt is for Gyarados, and other waters. Ice Beam covers all the dragons but specificly Salamence, Dragonite, and Flygon. Ice Beam also covers Gliscor and Skymin. Psychic covers Infernape, Gengar, Machamp, and Heracross. Hidden Power Ground is there to cover electric types because that seems to be a somewhat big weakness to my team.

Team Purpose: Mesprit's main goal is to prevent the opponent from sweeping my team and it does that job very well indeed.
vaporeon.png

Vaporeon - Wish Sub Support
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Water Absorb
Ev's: 188 HP - 252 Def - 68 SpA
- Substitute
- Surf
- Baton Pass
- Wish

Description: Vaporeon is still one of the best wishpassers of OU, if not the best. Vaporeon is passing around some very bulky substitutes to my teammates that will help get in some much needed switch-ins, such as getting Luke in. Vaporeon also serves as a Heatran, Infernape, and can counter Gyarados to some extent.

Team Purpose:Vaporeon is in this team because it provides some health support to the rest of the members and it also passes subs at the same time.
zapdos.png

Zapdos - Defensive Wall
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Pressure
Ev's: 252 HP - 220 Def - 36 Spe
- Roost
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Grass
- Heat Wave

Description: Zapdos is such a great asset to this team. Zapdos covers every Steel type that threatens this team and takes them out with ease. It also is immune to earthquake and leaves a wide opening for a switch to lucario. My Zapdos happened to have HP Grass 67 so I stuck with that instead of going for HP Ice. HP Grass is probably my only way to take out Swampert so it actually did more good than bad.

Team Purpose: Zapdos is meant to basically stop physical attackers from reaching out to Lucario and take him out. He's very good at his job.
lucario.png

Lucario – First Sweep
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Inner Focus
Ev’s : 252 Atk 4 Def 252 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- ExtremeSpeed
- Ice Punch

Description: Lucario is an amazing sweeper only held back by its lacking speed. But in this team, All of Lucario’s three weaknesses are countered by the rest of the team, with earthquake being covered the most with 3 immunities and 1 half damage, which makes it very easy to switch in and pull off a Swords Dance. Ice punch was added in because after a swords dance, Ice punch outspeeds the average Neural Speed, Max Attack, DD Salamence and OHKOs. Ice punch Also will outspeed and OHKO after a swords dance Dragonite, Gliscor, and most, if not, all other dragons in OU.

Team Purpose: Lucario’s purpose in this team is to cause massive distruction to the opponents team and leave the opponent with either all pokemon in the red, or all pokemon KOed, both of which is an accomplishable task. He is the Core of this team.
hitmontop.png

Hitmontop – Priority Clean Sweep
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Technician
Ev’s: 240 HP – 252 Atk 16 Spe
- Fake Out
- Mach Punch
- Close Combat
- Bullet Punch

Description: Hitmontop is a really cool Priority Sweeper. He cleans up very well after Lucario and has pretty good defenses except for HP, which is his downfall. Speed isn’t a problem in this set due to the Priority moves in the set. Fake out is a good switch in Quick KO. And then to follow is Stab technician Mach punch. Firing off 90 BP Priority, which can do a lot to weakened foes. Bullet punch also can cover a lot and hit hard.

Team Purpose: Hitmontop’s purpose in this team is to basically clean the field after Lucario has gone down or has finished its job.
Well there is my team with my signature mix of UU, BL, and OU. :P please rate. Credit to Arkeis.com for the cool pictures and credit to SvN to getting me hooked on UU in OU. =P

I'm guessing your new to the Platinum competitive battling, as there are a few issues with your team. But I'll try to change it as little as possible.

A DD boosted LO Adamant Salamance's Outrage has a 74.36% chance of OHKOing Mespirit with Stealth Rock in play. Vaporeon, on the hand, cannot be OHKOed in this cirumstance. Change Vaporeon's moveset to Surf, Ice Beam, Wish and Protect. Passing Substitutes is very difficult in Platinum's offensive metagame. Vaporeon doesn't need HP Electric, because Mespirit can handle Gyarados fine.

HP Ground is near useless on a physical wall, and it does only slightly more damage to Electrics than Psychic. The main reason you would want to use it is Heatran, who is very common in Platinum, but Vaporeon handles him fine. Replace HP Ground with Stealth Rock, which is a must for every team.

Three physical walls and no special wall is a waste. Zapdos is the least Replace Zapdos with a Cleric Blissey. She walls all the Electric pokemon you fear and is your Gengar counter (just watch out for Trick). You have no status absorber, but this is insignificant with a cleric.

With the newfound viability of lead Infernape, azelf and Gengar sets, not to mention the fact that Absol now gets Superpower, Honchkrow is kinda nerfed in platinum. I would go for a TrickScarf Timid Gengar or azelf set, unless you want the same type of lead, in which I would go for an SD Weavile or Absol set. Here are the sets, just for reference:

Azelf@ Choice Scarf
Timid w/ Levitate
EVs: 200 HP / 58 SpA / 252 Spe
-Trick
-Stealth Rock
-Flamethrower/Psychic
-Explosion

I think this is the EV spread, but point it out if I'm wrong. Gengar is similar, except he has Shadow ball and Thunderbolt over Flamethrower/Psychic and Stealth Rock.

Weavile@ Focus Sash
Jolly w/ Pressure
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
-Swords Dance
-Ice Shard
-Brick Break
-Pursuit/Night Slash

This is kinda standard and old. Pursuit or Night Slash are down to personal preference.

Absol@ Focus Sash
Jolly w/ Super Luck
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
-Swords Dance
-Night Slash
-Psycho Cut
-Superpower

This rocks now it gets superpower, because it isn't walled by quite as much now.

I wouldn't recommend using a Vaporeon without Protect, thats pretty much like running no recovery at all on Vaporeon, whats the point of running Wish if the Wisher itself cannot heal? The last thing you want is for Vaporeon to faint, yeahhh. I would suggest running Vaporeon Surf / Hidden Power Electric / Wish / Protect, I find Substitute useless to be honest, you should probably have some much more useful, like Hidden Power Electric, which you will be NOW be able to call Vaporeon the Gyarados counter of the team. Surf will provide coverage against Infernape and Vaporeon, while Wish + Protect will work magic to heal Vaporeon without much effort, your idea of Baton Passing isn't bad, but its not an effective stradegy on something like Vaporeon.

I know you have a Honch on the team, but you really have a problem with Gengar, its a pretty unpredictable Pokemon, which will cause problems here if you're not the best predicter. You have nothing against Gengar, technally, and Hitmontop seems replacable. I would probably replace Hitmontop with Scizor, Scizor will still be able to use one of the best priotity moves, Bullet Punch, with an added bonus of STAB, and is able to learn Pursuit (though 2+ Bullet Punch OHKOes Gengar), and yeah, Mespirit isn't a Gengar counter.
