ORAS OU RMT: The Borreal Forest

Hello everyone! After playing competitive battling for about a year I now feel comfortable enough with doing an RMT of my own.

This is the Borreal Forest. The main core in the team revolves around a bulky M-Venusaur, and Revenge Killer Weavile (thus how the team got its name). Ever since XY release of the starter megas, I have been in love with charizard x and Blastoise. I could not say the same for Saur until I used it for myself. With its new ability in Thick Fat, it now cushions 2 of its 4 weaknesses, making it a good defensive pokemon to fit on balanced, defensive and stall teams. Venusaur's main role is to be a def. pivot, that can check/Counter Keldeo(bar HP Flying sets), Manaphy (bar the Psychic sets) and Azumarill. SB is to hit fairies such as Clefable and Sylveon for super effective damage and is a reliable STAB to hit T-flame switch ins. Synthesis is to increase longevity and HP Fire is used to hit steel types such as Ferro, M-Scizor, Skarmory and Bisharp.

Next in this core I wanted something that would have both pursuit trap Lati's, Starmie and Gengar to give Venu an easier time as a def pivot. As well, I wanted a good way to clean faster threats such as M-Lopunny, M-Zam, M-Aero, M-Man and even out prioritize Brelooms MP. Weavile fits these niches quite nicely and also provides a powerful knock off user to the team, not to mention Icicle Crash does solid damage to Flying types that would trouble Venu such as Tornadus and does sizeable damage to Lando, Chomp, M-Zard X/Y and even spdef or mixed def Ferro while avoiding IB or RS damage.

Since I am using a Bulky M-Venusaur and a Weavile, SR and Spikes are going to be an issue on this team. I decided to recruit Starmie for this niche. I prefer Analytic on this set so that if I predict a Rapid Spin switch, I can nail something with a powerful special att, like HP, Psyshock, or T-bolt, generally KO'ing anything it is not resistant too (assuming that it hits). Now, some may think Recover is not necessary, but it helps when you switch into a favorable matchup and can recover off entry hazard damage to increase your longevity. Finally, 0 IV in Att to reduce Foul Play damage.

- Rapid Spin

One thing I am quite weak too on this team is Talonflame and M-Pinsir. Both can come in on Venu and sweep easily. To close off this weakness I needed rocks on this team, and also wanted a good way to check both parties with an intimidate user. I ended up using RockySkin Garchomp, and SubDance Gyarados. Chomp is the main lead that sets up rocks, d-tail's to get damage off, can toxic bulky walls, and can be saved to tank hits from the fore-mentioned physical-contact attackers and deal RockySkin damage to them too. Gyarados, is a way to avoid EQ from Lando, Hippo and other treats, put up a sub and then either deal damage or set up d-dance. Intimidate is used to check t-flame, which would otherwise be an issue if Chomp fainted.

Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 88 HP / 220 Atk / 4 Def / 196 Spe

Now to finish off the team, I decided that cleric support would be nice especially if Weavile is hit by a t-wave, gyara and chomp a burn etc. and I also saw no reliable way to take out dark types so I slapped Sylveon on the team to tank hits, provide wish/cleric support, pass through subs from the likes of Serp and Gyara with HV, and also provide a nice Fairy STAB.

There it is. I hope you guys enjoyed the team, if you have any suggestions please let me know. Much like my favorite lobster Crawdaunt, I am quite adaptable! Thanks in Advance and sorry for that awful pun :P

Hey Sp00ki_ChandeIure , the team isn't bad at all but I think this is weak to a few common OU Threats. The team looks weak to Mega Charizard X , Weavile , Mega Pinsir (it can OHKO Garchomp after a Swords Dance and Rock Damage) .

So first of all going for changes I think
Slowbro > Gyarados , Slowbro don't just counter Mega Charizard X but also walls Mega Pinsir from sweeping your team also it is a good Rain Counter , Scald switch-in and Sand Counter. Slowbro fills a lot of roles in your team , that Gyarados can't , but removing Gyarados means you will lost your only sweeper. So if you agree to go with this change then Clefable > Sylveon , the question in your mind will be what's the difference between these two? , the biggest difference is it can counter Weavile and Ice punch Mega Loppuny which are a huge threat to your team also it fills the role of a setup sweeper and it is one of the best win-con in the game.

You may feel like two Mons with same typing isn't good , but they don't makes you weak to a Pokemon , Mega Venusaur counters all the Mons which they share weakness with. For Example: Serperior and Electrics.

At last I think Fire Blast > Toxic , the changes makes you weak to Scizor so I think that change on Garchomp will be helpful for your team.

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Fire Blast
- Slack Off
- Thunder Wave

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Moonlight / Wish
- Fire Blast / Protect / Heal Bell

Hope I Helped :]…

Thanks for the input Charilax Blastler,

I agree with these switches:

Clefable > Sylveon
Slowbro > Gyarados

As for Chomp, I used to have Fire Blast over Toxic because I had Venu carry Leech Seed over HP Fire. After some testing I saw that the change was necessary as it became bait for Scizor/Bisharp setup. I was realizing that this team is weak to stall because of its lack of a (consistent) wall breaker -- reffering to Analytic Starmie, so I wanted something to deal toxic damage. I felt that Chomp was the best candidate and with the addition of Slowbro having Fire blast, I don't see it as a necessity. I do realize that may seem foolish because Slowbro is in no way a counter to Scizor, but otherwise I'm having too much difficulty breaking through common walls.

On the upside, I do think that t-wave support is going to come in handy especially now that I can do more damage to faster threats with Weavile.

Though I will miss pixilated HV, I agree that an Unaware/MG wall will be much nicer to this team.

Thanks Again!

Hey, really nice team here however it have some flaws but i'll try to fix them.

Charizard-X is one of the biggest threat for the team ; you don't have a check to it, revenge killer or an Prankster user with Thunder-Wave. he just 6-0 you, i noticed also a weakness to M-Gardevoir since your only way to deal with it is to revenge kill him with Weavile and i don't like it since your team is an balanced one.

First, i'd suggest to use Clefable over Sylveon, Sylveon is outclassed by Clefable as an Support and as an fairy type in general, i'd recommend to use the Calm Mind Magic Guard set which fite pretty well on these kind of them, it will allow you to pressure Stall/Balanced team when Weavile can threat offensive one.

Why not using Hippowdon over Garchomp ? Hippowdon will still work as an Stealth Rocker and as decent check to many physical attacker and it can be used as strong check to Charizard-X which annoy your team, his Ground typing allow him to being an full counter to Electric type which will allow you to don't lose momentum if the opponent will use Volt Switch, its ability Sand Stream, allow him to send an Sand Storm which will annoy any non-Ground/Steel/Rock type on the field and to help against likes M-Lopunny, Hoopa-U.

I'd recommend to use the Defensive set on Starmie, the actual set doesn't fite well on the team because you will want to have a better staying power to Rapid Spin which can help your Weavile and your team in general. it will also allow you work as better check to other threats so thats good.

You lack of a solid Ground resistence/immunity and to an check to M-Gardevoir, Skarmory can work well since it work as both of Ground resistence and to an check to M-Gardevoir and it also allow you to have the Spikes support which is perfect in this team with Trapkiller support (Weavile).
