RMT: Toxic Spikes Support - OU

I spent about an hour and a half typing up an incredibly detailed and darn good looking RMT for a fairly unique team, and my power went out, so I'm here to create a slightly downgraded version for your viewing pleasure.

The idea for this team is to force offense oriented teams into a defensive position through Toxic Spikes and Reflect/Screen, while out-stalling or crippling walls. The team consists of:

empoleon.png
bronzong.png
heatran.png

Movesets:

roserade-m.png

Kirk Man-Fist @ Focus Sash
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Toxic Spikes
- Sleep Powder

Roserade is in my experience the most reliable Toxic Spiker, and has Sleep powder to temporarily stop most other starters that would beat it 1 on 1. With support from several steel types, it can cover most other common starters and, at some point in the fight, guarantee that Toxic Spikes will go down if needed. The one thing I don't like about Roserade is the use of an inaccurate sleep move on a flimsy pokemon.

flygon.png

Double-Deadly Rogers @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 80 HP/252 Atk/176 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Outrage
- Stone Edge (OR Fire Punch depending on Dusclops)

Still deciding between Fire Punch or not. It's a sweeper with almost perfect synergy with Heatran and Empoleon. Heatran and Flygon can switch into much of what other pokemon cannot, they love reflect and light screen, and the only offensive weaknesses they share are bulky waters, which Empoleon loves to set up on. Makes tyranitar a joke, and gets rid of scizor, infernapes, and lucario trying to set up.

dusknoir.png

Leopard the Infathomable @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Will-o-wisp
- Thunderpunch
- Pain Split
- Fire Punch (OR Ice Punch)

Counters Gyarados extremely well, and the only reason why I bother with Fire Punch is for Lucario and Scizor. Not an option to replace it with Spiritomb here because his defenses are too low in comparison, and Spiritomb gets far less type coverage. A STalk set is a possibility.

empoleon.png

Soda-Pop Soul Destroyer @ Petaya Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 12 HP/232 Spd/252 SAtk/12 SDef
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Agility
- Substitute
- Surf
- Ice Beam

A very powerful sweeper late game, benefits greatly from Bronzong and Roserade support, feeds off of anything that can tank Flygon or Heatran, and can switch in quite well with almost constant screening support. It really is a remarkable sweeper, support or not, and teamed with Dusknoir and Flygon can force many CBers into life-risking prediction wars, and if a CBer ever lets Bronzong get in, it guarantees several more rounds of switch hazards.

bronzong.png

Lightning Thunderbolt Superstar @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/92 Def/164 SDef
Sassy nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Gyro Ball

The true backbone of this team. An incredibly reliable SR user, and almost always lands at least one screen every time it switches in with its incredible defenses. I've considered getting a Latias instead of Heatran or Flygon so I can get some wish support for this guy, but frankly this team isn't mean to stall with Bronzong. He just switches a lot. Gyro ball is for taking out Gengar and several other sweepers, but I'm considering Explosion if I find another Gar counter. Stealth Rock helps greatly with Salamence, and since I almost always have a light screen or reflect up, it allows my Dusknoir some attacking options.

heatran.png

Jupiter Great Sunday @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Explosion
- Dragon Pulse
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower

As mentioned before, has incredible type synergy with the rest of the team, and covers up my fire attack weakness besides Infernape. Has similar attack coverage to Flygon, just from another side of the attacking spectrum. Substitute based sets do not work here. Had to get rid of Fire Blast because the accuracy cost me the majority of my losses.

I've playtested this team quite a bit, only losing to Lucario or Infernape on occasion, or the afformentioned hax. Salamence really isn't that big of a problm unless it comes in immediately after Roserade, which is rare. It also doesn't have a whole lot of safe switch in opportunities. If it switches in and is DD spec, it doesn't have Taunt so Dusknoir's WoW destroys it. CB and Specs require prediction but aren't impossible. Choice Specs Zapdos and Jolteon can pose a small threat, but frankly neither of them can switch in on any of my sweepers without taking big switch in damage.

Taking all suggestions, including removing entire sets or Pokemon. I'm already testing several exchanges of Pokemon including a fairly successful version which replaces Flygon with Gliscor, Bronzong with Latias and Dusknoir with Spiritomb.

Ummmm, I see one major flaw in this team. If you use Toxic Spikes in the beginning then whats the point of Dusknoir with Will-O-Wisp. I mean, I guess I can understand pokemon like Salamence or Gyarados but give it Ice Punch and Thunderpunch to OHKO - 2HKO them

Lucario, Salamence, Gyarados and Scizor are all immune to Toxic Spikes. Stealth Rock is almost always up in every match with this team within the first several turns, or at least the first 10, given the typing coordination where Bronzong is almost always needed to switch in. I've mentioned minor issues with Salamence, but he gets taken down by anything from WoW for a DD set to a desperate revenge kill. With stealth rock out, which is 90% of the time paired with either reflect or light screen, he isn't a problem. Dusk has Tpunch always for Gyara.

Edit: To put it short, WoW is more effective and reliable than predicting a switch in by one of many pokemon, though you do have a valid point.

the team is fairly slow.. and i dont like how u have 2 pokemon with choice scarfs. maybe if u replace one of them with a fast mix sweep, maybe a salamence > flygon

Can you be a little more specific, or say why you think that's a problem? Flygon used to be Choice Band until a little while ago, but it helps a lot with most of what dusknoir can't handle physically.

ok well considering that infernape,a nd many other leads are faster then your lead, and carry a focus sash, and other leads with that type of thing, u might have a problem with teams from the begining. and if u dont have flygon out when a gyarados happends to pop out u might be in serious trouble

Dusknoir is an incredible Gyarados counter with Thunder Punch, Roselia sets up against a decent number of leads without relying on Focus Sash, and relying on it grants me a 75% chance to beat pokemon like Azelf out with Focus Sash. Essentially, it has Focus Sash for a reason, and sending it out first is the only reliable way to get it out with its low defenses. With this setup it's the most reliable Toxic Spikes user.

tru dat is. im not a fan of rocks/spikes teams in general just because i think the wear down effect on these teams gets to be a burden. but yeah maybe that counter would work ok.

One problem I can see is that Tentacruel is going to get rid of your Toxic Spikes after Roserade has been taken out, and will beat or deal good damage to most Pokemon in your team. Flygon and Heatran could both dispatch of it, but once it's absorbed the spikes it'll probably get withdrawn. If it comes in late game after your Flygon is gone, it will stop your Empoleon with ease. You could even go with putting Earthquake/Explosion over Gyro Ball or one of the Screens on your Bronzong to help deal with it.

Furthering on this Tentacruel thought, you could even get rid of Roserade and replace it with your very own Tentacruel. It spins away other Spikes while laying it's own. This would probably mean getting rid of Empoleon, however. *** Stop reading now if you're not interested in seeing your team become something that doesn't exactly resemble your team***

I put this in my first post which got deleted by a power outage while typing it and forgot to include it here, but after using Tentacruel extensively I found it very unreliable when it has to actually get the Toxic Spikes on the field. Since Empoleon shares the same ground weakness as Tentacruel, Tentacruel switches into the same pokemon as Empoleon, just adding infernape to the list.

Putting Bronzong with screens at the front makes sweeping with screens harder, since I lose the chance to see my team first before putting my setup out there. The reason why my spiker is first is so by the time my screener makes its appearance, I've already set up my sweep fully. I do appreciate the more defensive team idea, but it has too many counters, such as pursuit and several mixed sweepers.

Edit: I'm actually trying something where I have a different Bronzong first with tentacruel, moltres and spiritomb to cover my previous weaknesses, and it's going well. Without the screen bronzong and my empoleon it's a little stallier than i wanted it to be, but so far it actually counters my old weaknesses better. Thanks Smith!
