RMT (UU): Team Build A Scare

Hi!

This is a UU team that I made with the help of LonelyNess, who is my tutor for this round of Battling 101. He has helped me get a more firm grasp on the UU metagame. I have learned that the UU metagame is a lot more unpredictable than OU because there are way more pokemon in UU than OU meaning that just about every team has more than 1 flaw. This team is no exception. I have a big weakness to Sunny Day teams (I'm looking at you Panamaxis) and fire types in general. This team does pretty well in battle but there is always room for improvement. It got me to a rating of 1444 when I went on a three game losing streak to none other than hax.

The teams basic strategy is simple. Cripple stuff with status, taunt and entry hazards then wear them down even more with a few attacks. Then I can send in Ursaring and attempt a late game sweep(which doesn't take much).

In Depth

Crobat (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Inner Focus
EV's: 104 HP / 152 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature(+Spe, -SAtk)
- Brave Bird
- U-Turn
- Roost
- Taunt

In terms of leading Crobat is one of the best in UU. He can take Fake Outs from those pesky Ambipom leads like a beast and just Roost off the damage then proceed to hit it with a STAB Brave Bird. U-Turn is basically for scouting purposes and lets me get a light hit on my oponents pokemon before getting out. Thus breaking any sashes. Taunt is a cool move for stopping Frosslass from setting up Spikes then I can go to Slowbro to take the Ice Beam. Then it's basically a game of prediction. Crobat usually gets back in and KOs with Brave Bird. Roost is for recovery and lets me heal after Brave Bird+My oponents attack takes their toll. For a skinny bat Crobat is surprisingly bulky in the lower tiers. He sports a X4 Resist to Grass and Fighting which makes him a decent check to Shaymin. Crobat is the second fastest pokemon in UU IIRC and that makes him a fantastic user of Taunt. Most people get frustrated when their Steelix can't set up SR. I didn't want to use Hypnosis on this guy because he isn't mean't to take lots of hits even though I have described him like he is. I usually just Taunt then U-Turn to Steelix to get my Stealth Rock up. I don't wanna try to overdue the status part of this team.

208.png

Steelix (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Rock Head
EV's: 252 HP / 120 Atk / 136 SpD
Relaxed Nature(+Def, -Spe)
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Roar

Steelix is the best physical wall in UU. He is capable of taking boosted super effective hits and just roaring them away. Stealth Rock pays dividends for this team as it turns many 2HKOs into OHKOs. Roar is a nice phazing move that lets me get rid of opposing sweepers. Earthquake is STAB on Steelix and deals with Roosting Crobat or Arcanine (If Slowbro has fainted). Gyro Ball is Steelixs main method of attacking and it takes advantage of his low speed but decent attack. Steelix is a nice switch in to Raikou's Thunderbolt which is a major threat to my team if it manages to get any boosts.Steelix does what he is supposed to do and I ask that he not be removed unless there is a VERY good reason.

80.png

Slowbro (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Own Tempo
EV's: 212 HP / 252 Def / 44 SAtk
Bold Nature(+Def, -Atk)
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- ThunderWave
- Slack Off

Slowbro is my long lasting physical wall unlike Steelix, who has no recovery. Surf is for STAB and hits fighting types and Fire types well enough. Ice Beam hits Flying types. Thunder Wave is for crippling sweepers that are fast and try to set up on Slowbro. Slack Off is for recovery. Slowbro is my all time favorite pokemon because of his attitude. He has a "why do now what you can do later" attitude. And that is what he does in battle. He can stall you out with Slack Off until you are weak enough to kill you. I didn't use HP Electric because it has no use outside of hitting Mantine. Azumarrill can't do much back to Slowbro. I chose Bold Nature because he has no use for attack.

497.png

Shaymin (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EV's:
32 HP / 252 SpA / 224 Spe
Timid Nature(+Spe, -Atk)
- Seed Flare
- Air Slash
- Earth Power
- Rest

Shaymins land form is a nice wall breaker and counter to most of those bulky waters in UU. Air Slash is kept when she reverts back from Sky form and it deals a fair amount of damage to other bulky grasses such as Meganium. Rest is for recovery. "REST WITH NO SLEEP TALK??? ARE YOU INSANE" well yes I am but natural cure cures me of the status effect. Seed Flare has a nice chance at lowering my opponents special defense and causes many switches. Seed Flar gets STAB as well. Earth Power is for the fire types that love to switch in on Shaymin only to be outsped and KOd. Eliminating bulky waters means that Slowbro can stay in a lot longder as well as Steelix.

434.png

Mismagius (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EV's: 160 HP / 128 SpA / 220 Spe
Timid Nature(+Spe, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- HP Fighting
- Will O Wisp
- Thunder Wave

I love double status Mismagius. It catches so many people off guard it isn't funny. I usually try to aim Will o Wisp at Registeel and Steelix because then they can't really hurt Ursaring as he sets up all over them. Shadow Ball is for opposing Mismagius. HP Fighting pairs up with Shadow Ball for the unresisted combo. Thunder wave is for fast sweepers such as Raikou. This is perhaps my most valuable supporter. Without status Ursaring wouldn't have an easy time setting up on people. She also protects my Stealth Rock from being spun away.

217.png

Ursaring (M) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Quick Feet
EV's: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature(+Spe, -SAtk)
- Facade
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Fire Punch

And here is Ursaring. In my opinion he is one of the most fearsome sweepers in UU. With Toxic Orb he can outrun most threats and land an easy OHKO with Facade. Swords Dance is useful when I am against crippled walls like Steelix. Fire Punch is for bulky grass types and it hits ghost types for nice damage. I might switch to Crunch though because MIsmagius is getting annoying. He can OHKO Slowbro with Facade after a Swords Dance. After the orb has activated his speed hops to 343. Many people don't realize it and leave their sweepers in only to be OHKOd. This dude doesn't last long though so stuff has to be weakened to the point that I don't really need a SD.

Thank you for reading. The threat list can be found below.v

Hmmm, well i see a couple big flaws off the bat, while also minor nitpicks. Lets start with the nitpicks.

Nitpicks:
Well lets see, to start your Shaymins speed may as well be maxed. The lack of maxed speed means you ALWAYS lose to Jolly Staraptor, where as your team will have some trouble with. As well, you are always second to other Shaymins, who can Flinch Hax you with Air Slash, while you dont even get a chance.

Another option would be to just get rid of Air Slash for Psychic. Psychic helps you beat other Grass-types, because without maxed speed you cant really fight other Shaymins anyway and Shaymin is the only mono-grass type. Roserade, Venusaur and co. are all Part Poison, so they will get hit hard by Psychic. Most importantly, though, is the fact that the best switch in to Shaymin is Crobat. Crobat gets Drilled by Psychic, and once its gone, it cant Taunt Steelix anymore allowing you to set up SR.

Number two, two statuses on Missy would work, but imo its a waste. Thunder Wave works with Slowbro rather than against it, and this allows you to put Calm Mind, or Pain Split in the other slot. You could however, put Light Screen over Twave on Slowbro, allowing SD easier to use for Ursaring.

Thats pretty much it for nitpicks.

Now on to the bigger flaws.

Major Problems:

The most obvious thing that i see, is that you cant take ANY special attacks. Raikou is alright, as only HP Fire variants are serious trouble.

Blaziken isnt even walled by Slowbro, in fact Slowbro can only switch in on Superpower, because Hidden Power Grass or Electric and Fire Blast 2HKO him.

Charizard also blows holes through your team, it cant even be revenged by anything aside from a Combo with Mismagius and Crobat, losing two pokemon.

Slowbro doesnt stop many of these threats anymore, unless you rely on prediction.

Im going to Suggest a Major change here.

Switch Slowbro with..................Milotic!

350milotic.png

Milotic (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP/212 Def/44 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Recover
- Surf
- Toxic / Hidden Power Electric
- Ice Beam / Hidden Power Electric

This Milotic is and excellent counter to the common Special Fire Types because of its AMAZING defensive typeing, and insane base 125 SDef. The choice of HP electric over any of those is for Coverage so Focus Punch Azumaril or Sub-DD Feraligatr. Toxic in general is helpful, but you have too many damn status already.

This adds a serious amount of Synergy that your team well...seriously lacks. Crobat+Steelix+Milotic is the best defensive combo in UU covering all of each others weaknesses.

Im going to also suggest something in the offensive area. Ursaring is a great late game sweeper, but a back-up Sweeper would be ideal. I really think the standard CM Missy would work well over your double status. Missy+Shaymin+Ursaring is actually an awesome offensive core, with the former and latter taking care of Chansey which is the only thing that Walls Shaymin. Shayming and Ursaring take care of Registeel, who walls Missy, and Shaymin+Missy take care of Physical walls and some faster opponents.

I think thats all for now.

You mainly seem to be having problems with special attacking Fire types. Really, the Electric types you named, Raikou and Manectric, shouldn't be worrying you unduly. Steelix and Shaymin take on and take out Raikou convincingly, and Manectric is like a special based version of Electivire - it has good coverage with Fire and Electric, good speed, but lacks the umph behind its attacks to actually do any damage. For example, on average Shaymin survives a LO Thunderbolt followed by Flamethrower, and can so take it out with Earth Power, and Mismagius easily survives a Thunderbolt and can paralyse Manectric to boot.

Like Heysup said, the best way to deal with the Fire types that seem to be threatening you is to switch out Slowbro for a water type more apt in taking special hits. Milotic and Slowking come to mind as good candidates. Milotic has a higher or pretty much equal base stat in every stat than Slowking, and so is usually the superior choice, but Slowking has that useful Fighting resistance and access to Thunder Wave. You'll need to gauge how useful you're going to find these two factors, and if you realise you don't need them quite so much, Milotic is the superior choice. I recommend you try out both in Slowbro's place and see which one takes your fancy.

Rock Polish Torterra shouldn't be too big a deal with Shaymin on your team. LO Stone Edge fails to 2HKO and Shaymin resists Torterra's STABs, and can hit back with Seed Flare for big damage. LO will wear down Torterra while you can instantly recover with Rest. Go max speed on Shaymin - you'll want to have the assurance that you will at worst tie with other Shaymin and Staraptor.

If you are looking for something to replace Crobat now that it is going suspect, consider using a dual screen Uxie or Mespirit in its place. Uxie has the benefit of higher defenses but rather pathetic offensive stats, whereas Mespirit can actually do some damage with a SpA stat equal to Mismagius. Both can lay Stealth Rock too, so that can free up a moveset on Steelix, possibly for Explosion. The reason I would recommend these dual screeners is because Ursaring really appreciates the defensive support as it sets up. However, if you do decide to go for one of these psychic dual screen leads, definitely go for Milotic over Slowbro. You don't want to be adding to the Ghost / Dark weakness any more by sticking with Slowbro or Slowking.

Finally, use Crunch over Fire Punch on Ursaring. All the steel types in UU are hit much harder by Close Combat, and the Grass types you said you hit are hit much harder by Facade than a super effective Fire Punch. Fire Punch is only used for OU where it hits the Steel/Psychics and Steel/Flyings. Crunch will definitely be of more use here, allowing you to get the OHKOs on Mismagius, Drifblim, and Rotom.

Good luck with your team =).

Another GREAT point. I'll be sure to test that out.

I really like Slowbro but if it is for the good of the team I suppose it is ok =(. I'll do some playtesting.

Im going to also suggest something in the offensive area. Ursaring is a great late game sweeper, but a back-up Sweeper would be ideal. I really think the standard CM Missy would work well over your double status. Shayming and Ursaring take care of Registeel, who walls Missy, and Shaymin+Missy take care of Physical walls and some faster opponents.

Double Status Missy works very well. If I am getting rid of Slowbro I am definately not losing the Double Status Missy. Status also acts as a cushion against faster sweepers like Raikou who have had their counters eliminated. I don't like Ursaring being outsped.

I was really considering that. Nice to hear some back up. I'll change that right now.

Ok so what I am hearing most is that I need a special wall. I'll look into Milotic and Slowking.

One small thing... you may want to change over Ursaring from a Toxic Orb to a Burn Orb. It is only supposed to be sweeping once, and is not supposed to be forced out, so you will take overall less damage from burn orb.

Edit: Oops, sorry, I forgot and confused Quick Feet/Guts. So easy when people use swellow so often. Sorry : ).

You can keep the Double Status Missy, i just dont think it would work well even if it does on Paper. Your team lacks in Offense as it is, so thats why im suggesting CM.
