RMT Volcarona

This mon is my favorite Poke, so I wanted to try to build a team with it. This is one of my first teams so it's bound to have some flaws, but hey that's what I came here for.

Volcarona & Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
248 HP / 156 Def / 16 SpA / 88 Spe
Timid Nature
-Quiver Dance
-Flamethrower
-Psychic
-Roost

Decided to go with Bulkarona since it's the most versatile to build with. The speed allows Volc to outspeed Zeraora after a QD, and the special attack guarantees a kill on Rillaboom at +0. The rest is to improve physical bulk providing some defensive utility.

Tapu Fini & Leftovers
Ability: Misty Surge
248 HP / 196 / 64
Bold Nature
-Moonblast
-Scald
-Knock Off
-Taunt

One of Bulkarona's strongest partners IMO, Fini threatens most Pokemon that can switch in to this Volc set such as Heatran, Blissey, Urshifu-R, Dragonite, Darts Pult and Hydreigon. Volc in return checks Grass types and Kyurem. Misty Surge also frees Volc up to use Psychic over Safeguard. EVs maximize physical bulk to best take hits from Urshifu-R and Weavile while outspeeding Adamant Tyranitar. I'm considering running Defog over Knock Off or Taunt in the event that Volc loses its Boots, but the item removal and shutting down of passive mons is what makes Fini Fini.

Garchomp & Leftovers
Ability: Rough Skin
252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
-Swords Dance
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Stealth Rock

This is probably Volcarona's most complimentary offensive teammates and the team's rocker. Chomp deletes Heatran, Blissey and Pex and heavily dents Dragonite, while Volcarona fodders on metal birds and Tangrowth. Misty Surge also allows Garchomp to consistently switch in to the aformentioned mons (besides Dragonite) without fear of being Toxiced or Scald Burned. Stone Edge is chosen over Scale Shot or Fire Fang for its ability to threaten Flying Types better since our team is quite weak to threats like Zapdos and Tornadus-T at this point. Considering running Life Orb over Leftovers but recoil is kind of annoying.

Dragapult & Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
-Draco Meteor
-Shadow Ball
-Flamethrower
-U-Turn

Dragapult is a great partner for almost anything in the tier, but it also has great synergy with our offensive core by providing speed control, immediate breaking power, and pivoting. Pult lures in special sponges that get dismantled by Garchomp, paving the way for a Volcarona sweep. Hydro Pump could be an interesting tech over Flamethrower to lure and heavily dent 80% of Trans, but it isn't useful for much else.

Corviknight & Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Relaxed Nature
-Body Press
-Defog
-Roost
-U-Turn

Corviknight is a great fit for this squad IMO, since it can back-up check threats like Weavile, Rillaboom, Kartana, and Urshifu-R that may wear down Tapu Fini or Knock Off Volcarona's boots. Corv also has great utility in Defogging Hazards in the event of Volc losing her boots, checking a huge threat to this team in Tapu Lele, and a slow U-Turn forming a momentumm core with Dragapult. Rocky Helmet was chosen over Leftovers despite Corv being the prime Lele check because he often falls victim to Knock Off so I might as well punish that.

Slowking-G & Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
248 HP / 80 SpA / 180 SpD
Calm Nature
-Sludge Bomb
-Psychic
-Flamethrower
-Hydro Pump

Glowking completes the defensive core by being a phenomal special sponge that can check mons that break down Volc + Fini + Corv such as Tapu Koko and Kyurem, and it can even scout for Specs Pult as well. Despite being a decent Heatran lure, Hydro Pump was chosen over Earthquake because even though it lacks accuracy, it can threaten a wider array of Pokemon, most notably Ground types. Psychic was also chosen over Future Sight because Future Sight isn't a huge benefactor for most of the other mons on this team.

So yeah, this is my team.

Hi! The team looks solid, however I find it very difficult for your team to break down Blissey teams - yes, Garchomp in Misty Terrain takes on Blissey but it's all you have. Zeraora is also pretty annoying since Garchomp is prone to having its item Knocked Off and lose its longevity.
While the Zeraora matchup is hard to work around without changing the team, I'd suggest a different Fini sets to dismantle bulky Blissey cores. Actually there's two, but for the sake of Volcarona I think the first one is better

Trapper Fini:
Whirlpool - Nature's Madness - Taunt - Moonblast.
This set surgically removes big Volcarona roadblocks in Toxapex and Blissey from the game. It still works well as an Heatran counter, trapping it too, while retaining its ability to deal with Dragapult, Weavile and Urshifu through Moonblast.

CM Fini:
Calm Mind - Taunt - Draining Kiss - Scald/Surf
This set is more consistent overall but doesn't remove anything: it creates a win condition to break fatter teams and handles Heatran like a champ.

Dang I hadn't thought of trapper Fini, sounds like interesting tech. I'll definitely try it out, thanks for the idea!

Zeraora is definitely the biggest threat to this team, but between Garchomp's Rough Skin and Voltblocking and Misty Surge preventing Toxic he'd at least make a good short-term check. I also imagine Volc doesn't take too much damage from Zera either although it is Knock Off fodder.

Hi bud this team looks really great! However I’d like to recommend a small change. There is two options

1622376284288.png

Corviknight @ leftovers
Ability: Pressure
252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Relaxed Nature
-Brave bird
-Defog
-Roost
-U-Turn
If you still want to run a slow Uturn I suggest lefties and brave bird. You are still able to hit stuff like 1622376044968.pngwith brave bird And leftovers keep some for of longevity along side roost. This corv can get overwhelmed by strong physical attackers I must warn you. But the Uturn is nice.

1622376331199.png

Corviknight @ Shed shell
Ability: Pressure
252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Relaxed Nature
-Body Press
-Defog
-Roost
-Iron defense

if you want to run defensive back bone this is the corv. The set is able to wall
1622376044968.png For example. This corv is less passive. This is a good set but beware of knock as loosing your shed shell means you can get trapped by
1622376668982.png
. Also beware of
1622376704321.png
as its sacred sword can still cut through boosts.

whichever option you choose I know you will use it wisely goodluck man !
