Hey, this is RSMessiii in desperate need of sharing a rather successfull OU team of mine. As the title suggests, I am a big fan of A Song of Ice and Fire and my team is supposed to represent the Targaryens' anew conquest of Westeros - however slow and annyoing as it is. Henceforth, the stallish concept of this team is rather fitting, although it has no dragons :P
I ranked #8 at the beginning of ORAS and - with the new Meta adjusting and developing - I entered the top ten a few times. The team has gone through a few changes, for example after Mega Salamence was finally banned. Now onto the team...
Daario Nahaaris (Gliscor)
Daario Nahaaris (Gliscor) (M) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 248 HP / 188 SpD / 72 Spe
Careful Nature
- Roost
- Taunt
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
Gliscor is an invaluable team member of the Targaryen squad and has won me several battles. It as acts as some sort of Stallbreaker, preventing opposing Walls from healing, setting up their own entry hazards or removing mine via Defog.. Knock Off is very useful to cripple Walls removing their Leftovers, Black Sludge or Eviolite. Earthquale is the standard Stabmove dealing relative good damage. Roost extends his longevity even more than his Toxic Orb already does. Gliscor deserves his spot for taking on several threats, for example (non-hp ice) Heatran, Amoonguss and most importantly it can deal with most Gengar variants - unless Shadow Ball's side effect reduces my Special Defense Stat :(. Furthermore, it can shut down oppsoing Chansey, Clefable and the likes. The best part about Gliscor is probably that it is not affected by Status Moves á la Will o Will - providing that my Toxic Orb is already active. This is why, I have to play very carefully with Gliscor at the beginning of the match because I cannot risk losing my Toxic Orb due to Knock Off or being burned.
The EV spread is the standard one for Gliscor letting it take Heatran's Lava Plums and even its Fire Blasts very well. Furthermore, it survives Rotom Ws Hydro Pumps (if Rotom-W does not have too many special attack EVs) and, as I said, even is not 2hkod by LO Gengar's Shadow Ball. As you will see in the thread list, Bisharp can give me lots of trouble and Gliscor is a way to deal with it, even though it cannot do so as realiably as the physical defensive counterpart of his. Sometimes, I find to miss Toxic on Gliscor; however, I simply cannot pass on any move I currently am running. Despite, I have other Mons to spread Toxic.
Danaerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khalessi of the Great Grasss Sea, Breaker of Shackles, Queen of Meereen, Princess of Dragonstone, also known as the Unburnt and Mother of Dragons (Clefable)
(Clefable) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
As wonderful as Magic Guard Clefable is, I urgently needed something to deal with set up Sweepers and Quagsire simply did not fit into my teif I cannot rely on my (Mega-) Slowbro to deal with it.am, neither does it perform his role as my Clefable does.
It acts as my Cleric and deals with most dragons pretty well, above all Dragonite and physical MegaAltaria ignoring any stat change from Dragon Dance and Weakness Policy. It is also a rather good switch in for Latios as LO and even Specs Psychock fails to 2hko it. I chose to go fully defensive on the physcial side to take on Charizard X a bit better, even though Flare Blitz still does about 65%. Most importantly, Clefable stops CM MegaSableye and CM MegaSlowbro (though, its Scald burns can be a pain in the neck). SD Talonflame, who can be quite a threat to my team, can at least be stalled out of many of its PPs if I cannot rely on my (Mega-) Slowbro to deal with it.
I am open for EV changes, though, I did not really like the mixed Unaware set suggested by Smogon very much.
Moonblast is her standard STAB move dealing good damage, espeically to oppsoing dragons; Heal Bell heals me from any annyoing status problems which can be very helpful during a long match. I need to be careful though, because it also heals Gliscor from its Toxic Orb.
Wish, which supports my team, being useful if I do not find the time to recover with my other Mons and Protect, in order to stall out burned/ poisoned Pokemon and guarantee that she profits from her Wishes. I considered Moonlight instead of Protect, however. Please tell me what you think about this option! :)
Missandei (Chansey)
Missandei (Chansey) (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
Chansey is pretty much mandatory on most stall teams as it is, after all, still the best special wall out there. She carries probably the most essential move on my (and everyone else's) team: Stealth Rock - making it a pain for my opponents to switch too often. As Clefable is my Wish passer, Chansey has the instant recovery move Softboiled. Seismic Toss is there to deal considerable damage and not to be acomplete Taunt victim. Chansey also acts as one of my Mons who can spread status using Toxic.
Not much to say about Chansey bascially as it is pretty standard. The EV spread may need some explication, however: I chose to run a Calm nature over a Bold one because Chansey is my only special wall bar Celebi, so that it needs to be as bulky on the special side as possible. I found it pretty annyoing to be worn down by perma Volt Switch/ U Turn spam so fast running a bold nature as I did initially.
Ser Berristan Selmy (Mega-) Slowbro
Berristan Selmy (Slowbro) (M) @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Calm Mind
- Fire Blast
- Slack Off
Slowbro forms my physical defesnive core with Skarmory and deals with the dangerous fighting types, such as MegaMedicham, against even Skamrory struggles. Admittedly, it can be annyoing both being weak electric moves; nevertheless, I have other team members to sponge these. As for the move set, I am pretty open to changes as I alter the set from time to time myself. First, I ran Ice Beam instead of Fire Blast to have a (shaky) answer to MegaSalamence, then I ran the RestTalk set and now I am testing Fire Blast to surprise Ferrothornand Scizor occasinally. I usually do not megaevolve in a match until I think it to be really necessary because Regenerator is always nice as it saves you one turn of recovering. I often decide to mega when I am threatened by a +2 Talonflame or a MegaScizor (whose Bug Bite can still ohko me after rocks iIrc).
Slowbro spreads random burns via Scald and can switch in very often - sometimes doing nothing as I double switch only to have gained 33% of my health back.
In addition to that, it can be my final win condition in stall wars or other kind of close matches boosting it spcial attack and defense via Calm Mind. Since it cannot be critted, it can only be shut down by status (if I do not run Rest) after some boosts.
Ser Jorah Mormont (Skarmory)
Ser Jorah Mormont (Skarmory) @ Shed Shell
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Spikes/ Brave Bird
- Whirlwind
- Defog/ Brave Bird
Prior to Skarmory, I ran a physically defensive MegaScizor with Defog. However, I found that I'd rather run a MegaSlowbro, instead of regular Slowbroas before, so that I replaced MegaScizor with Skarmory who is almost as bulky as MegaScizor. They had very similar roles, but Skarmory is helpful as a phazer whirling out threats as SD Diggersby with whom MegaScizor could not really deal.
As for the move set, I am still not quite sure. Of course it is never good to be totally shut down by Taunt. Yet, I did really miss the Spikes further pressuring my opponent. Defog is also too valuable to be omitted as my team also hates the constant damage upon switch ins.
The EV spread is rather self-explanatory. I went max physcial to be able to switch in set up sweepers and whirl them out before they can get to dangerous, for example non-taunt Mega Gyarados with sub who sweeps me otherwise as its Mold Breaker negates my Clefable's ability as I had to assess unfortunately.
I chose hed Shell as the item because Gothitelle and especially Magnzone are so common as trappers these days. I would really appreciate the recovery Leftovers do provide, but I think it is not really worth the risk being trapped.
Arianne Martell (Celebi)
Arianne Martell (Celebi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 220 SpD / 36 Spe
Calm Nature
- Perish Song
- Giga Drain
- U-turn/ Baton Pass
- Recover
Celebi is maybe the Mon to be replaced most easily. In its place I used Clear Smog Amoognuss because of Regenerator for a while. However, I went back to Celebi since it has Natural Cure and - most decisively - Perish Song.
The EV spread does not need much further elaboration I think. 36 speed EVs are invested to outspeed Adamant Bisharp and Jolly Tyranitar.
The most questionable move is probably U-Turn on this set making me Pursuit fodder. As of late I encountered Puruit more often than before, so I might change that, although the nice, little extra damage was sometimes nice, to breakMegaSceptile's sub for instance.
Otherwise the move set is pretty standard: Giga Drain as STab adding up with the health I gain back from recover. . Perish Song is the whole reason I run Celebi, aside from being another switch ins to absorb status moves. It stops Baton Pass chains unless I am taunted before (which is why I considered running as much seed as is needed to outspeed Smeargle), CroCune sets run by either Suicune or Slowbro and other things like CM Clefable or CM/ Tail Glow Manaphy to some extent.. Apart from that, it is a nice measure to end a game with, even more so if my opponent has one of the pokes left with whom I cannot deal otherwise. All I need to do after clicking Perish Song is survivng the next three turns.
The grass typing is really nice to sponge electric and water attacks, making Celebi my main Keledeo counter. The psychic typing is sometimes more of a drawback due to 4x effective bug moves, especially U-Turns, and dark attacks, like Pursuit; nonetheless, it can be helpful at times.
Thanks for your read and adivice! iI I made too many errors, pardon me as I am not a native speaker :)
Threats:
Bisharp
Usually, I go to Skarmory. First of all, it sucks to lose my item, though, and second, Skarmory can do nothing back but phazing it out. Consequently, Bisahrp often remains a threat for a long time of the match.
Gliscor can kill Bisharp with Earthquake. However, it is 2kod by the combination of Knock Off and Sucker Punch. It is often a matter of prediction: Will my opponent use Sucker Punch, Iron Head or even Swords Dance after I took the Knock Off upon switching in?
MegaSlowbro is another shaky check, at least it does not take as much damage from Knock Off as regular Slowbro does.
Sometimes my last bet is to go into Clefable after having sacrificied something. Clefable takes about 75% from LO Iron Head and her Moonblast deals about 50% back. The good thing is that it does not matter how many boosts Bisharp has because of Unaware. If Iron head makes me flinch, though, Clef is doomed.
Greninja
Some expect it to be banned sooner or later and I can definitely see why. Due to Protean, it has so many sets it can run and dpending on that, there are different counters to it. My best bet is Chansey here, taking about 35% from 4 atk LO Gunk Shot. If Gunk Shot poisons - and if you ask me, it does so more often than it misses - and any entry hazards are active on my field, Chansey is only a shaky check.
Otherwise Greninja can 2ko every Pokemon of mine with the right moves.
Landorus I
Typically for stall, mine is also relatively weak to Landorus I - again depending on what move set it runs. If it is the CM set, Chansey can toxic it before and hoping not be 2kod by focus blast afterwards. If it is the Knock Off set, however, Gliscor is my best choice since HP Ice is not too common any more.
Skarmory can always hope to pahze it out but has to hope for the focus miss. Slowbro can take one hit and kill Lando after rocks upon megaevolving; hence, it is not a counter but merely a check.
Other threats can be: MegaHeracross, with whom I can deal with Clefable, Taunt/ Sub MegaGyarados and MegaScizor. MegaScizor is another reason why I replaced my own MegaScizor with Skarmory so that I can phaze it out at least.
