basically, road trips are the shit and that's where a lot of us played a lot of our pokemon. i remember as a kid whenever we'd be traveling to salt lake city or portland or wherever and it was a decently long drive (like 8-10 hours) i would make sure my gameboy advance was fully charged the night before and then load up leafgreen or emerald and go on a bonanza. battle factory in emerald was the best and it's what got me into actually playing mons competitively...before that to me it was just level shit up and battle trainers for cash to level more shit up. it took a whole new forme with the whole battle frontier aspect of emerald and that's probably the reason i'm here now. in addition playing through the games themselves has always been tons of pure fun and simply addicting, leveling stuff up and seeing your pokemon grow and get stronger is awesome and there's nothing better than climbing into a car in boise with a lv5 charmander and climbing out in san diego with a lv40 charizard.

tell me about your experiences with road trips or just long hours spent playing pokemon in general. who knows maybe we've all had this type of experience and that's why we're all together as a competitive community...i just want to hear about anything people have to offer in regards to playing them cartridges and/or what YOU did on road trips really :)!

I grew up playing Pokemon on road trips. I got my first gameboy color at like age 5 (it was the special Pokemon Yellow one) and I spent hours and hours on that thing. I got Pokemon Gold when I was 7 or 8 and that became my new thing to play, same with Silver. I stayed out of Pokemon again until Emerald (4th/5th grade me thought that pokemon was stupid and stopped playing it), and got back into it the summer of my 5th grade year when I was at camp. Emerald was a lot of fun to play in trips, I think i spent an entire 10 hour car trip on the battle frontier.

DPPt was the one generation that i still own all the games from. I got pearl in 7th grade and played it a TON on trips. Same with the Ranger games.

I never really played the 5th gen games much in trips, I beat them almost instantly after I bought them. My trips mostly consist of long jrpg games like Tales games or driving half of the trip and not being able to play at all.

There's something about San Diego that's common between you, me, and yee. My early experiences were with Pokemon Blue on my gray brick gameboy on a two hour drive from Ontario to SD. I think it was just me dicking around in Safari Zone trying to catch Tauros or Kangaskhan or Chansey. I always found something to do to keep myself entertained on road trips be it going to norcal or LA or Vegas or SD. I flew a lot as a kid since my dad's a pilot and I get to use some of his benefits like flying free on standby. We flew out to St. Louis or Philly to visit relatives, both of which are a long enough distance for me to get stuff done. When the gba SP and frlg/rse came out it was nice cause I could charge it at stops thanks to a nice long layover (layovers are cool if you don't hace to be somewhere urgent and you can keep yourself entertained). Nowadays if I find myself on a roadtrip I'll do some battle tower / subway or EV training.

As for roadtrips in general, I've been down to San Diego hundreds of times and went up to Vegas for 311 day in 2010, but my longest trip was from Upland (san berdoo county) to Spokane Washington helping a buddy from high school move up there for college. We left at 4am so we got to eat in Sacramento at lunch and retired in Redding (way the fuck northern california, near mt. Shasta). Left the next day and made it to Spokane in a grand total of 21 hours. We got to see the gorgeous farmlands of central cali, mt. Shasta, the plains and lakes of Oregon, and more farmlands of eastern Washington. What really made the trip, however, was the ipod. 21 hours of listening to entire albums (is there any other way?), allowing us to listen through entire Tool albums as well as a bunch other stuff as well.

Try not to be a stranger on roadtrips though. Pokemon, music, and smogon are great, but remember that there are people with you. Road trip bonding, in other words.

I live in Texas, and to boot out of the middle of nowhere so pretty much to get anywhere you have to drive 3+ hours. Pokemon was a staple in my road trips. Before I knew about EVs/IVs I wouldjust level up pokes to level 100 for the hell of it. I have most of the legendaries lv100 already because of it.
Once I learned about EVs and junk I started EV Training pokes on them car trips. Good waste of wasted time i presume. Car Trips are the shit.
