Roaring Moon @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 224 HP / 92 Def / 192 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Breaking Swipe
- Knock Off
- Tailwind
- Protect
Roaring Moon is a dark horse threat in Doubles OU! Booster Energy lets Roaring Moon outspeed the entire unboosted metagame: this lets it support its partners with Tailwind, annoy opposing Pokemon by removing items with Knock Off,and lower the damage of physical attackers with Breaking Swipe. The HP and Defense EVs allow Roaring Moon to survive an Extreme Speed from Choice Band Tera Normal Dragonite while Sword of Ruin is active, while the Speed EVs let it outspeed Tornadus without the boost from Booster Energy. Tera Poison gives Roaring Moon a resistance to Fighting-type attacks from Iron Hands while removing its weakness to Ice-type attacks from Chien-Pao. Breaking Swipe pairs well with setup Pokemon like Gholdengo and Iron Hands, letting them take less damage as they setup. Landorus is a strong partner, as it threatens Incineroar, Iron Hands, and Diancie, three Pokemon Roaring Moon struggles against, and it also benefits from Roaring Moon's Tailwind. Roaring Moon is used over other Tailwind setters such as Tornadus because of its physical attacks, damage reduction, and disruption tools. Unlike Tornadus, Roaring Moon has a positive matchup against Gholdengo because Knock Off forces it to Terastallize or risk taking super effective damage.
