Rock Origins said:
You strode confidently towards the rock henge, and crossed the threshold into the barren, gravelly, sacred ground. The henge is already glowing, and you find yourself looking at some Unown formes previously unseen of. Wait, these are-

"Kanji Unown, yes."

Whipping around to face the Gym Leader, you pulse raced when you see the furry face. It took a moment before you calmed down and thought to yourself that he couldn't possibly be Yeti's accomplice, only to panicked a little again at his next remark.

"Eheheh, how can you be so sure?"

Forcing your heartbeat to calm, you narrowed your eyes to make a =.= face.
"Even if you have these Unown runes and mind-reading on your side, I'm still going to beat you."

"I've heard a lot about you and your wanderings to know you're capable enough - that's why I'm not gonna hold back on you. Welcome, to Rock Origins, the Gym."

Format
  • 5 vs 5 Doubles, GL B8P5
  • 96-hour DQ (once someone goes over that, I'll usually leave a VM asking them to look at it. If their recent activity is twice over the time, a straight no-warning DQ may be requested by opponent)
  • 2 Abilities
  • 2/5 Recoveries/Chills
  • 7 Substitutions per round (excluding KO subs of course)
  • 0 Mega-Evolutions
  • Switch = OK
  • Items = ALL
  • Turn Order = COIN FLIP
Arena mechanics
  1. Naturally Rock-type Pokemons get Sticky Hold.
  2. All Rock-types get Solid Rock and Rock Head in addition, if they don't already have it.
  3. In Sandstorms, all attacks against Rock-types also suffer -2 BAP, instead of just Special Attacks.
  4. All defensive moves listed under Rock STAB gain +4 Priority instead of the original +1. Pokemons whose primary STAB is Rock-type automatically gain knowledge of all moves listed in the STAB description, except Multi-target, Priority, or Damaging moves (Exclusion lists: Detect, Quick Guard, Wide Guard, Light Screen, Reflect, Skull Bash).
  5. No external rock, water, or grass sources.
  6. No seismic combos allowed.
  7. Camouflage turns user into Rock-type, Nature Power calls Ancient Power, and Secret Power lowers Speed by one (1) stage.

Stratagem - Erza (U)
stratagem.png

A swordsman wields the blade with graceful precision, just as Erza uses her attacks with dangerous beauty. She walked in on one of Gray and Natsu’s brawls, and the resulting free-for-all wore on for half a day before Zheng can subdue her with a Pokeball. Unknowingly for her, that fight left a lasting impression on the two – they’re cautious almost to the point of fearful whenever in her company since then. Wendy and Charla looks up to her as a role model, though, and it was Erza who took care of them, even though she was newer to the family.

Chargestone Cave is the hallowed ground for all of Erza's ancestry, yet she decides that she will withhold her instincts to evolve for the sake of her family. Small but close-knit, everyone looks up to Erza as the big sister, even though her quirks with boys sometimes astonished the girls and make the shy ones (like Juvia and Wendy) blush. After a series of long, drawn out clashes with Mirajane, both of them seemed to have settled to a cordial relationship, mutually agreeing to avoid mentioning the past conflicts, opting instead to look after the girls together and knock the boys down a peg or two when they get too loud.

It wasn't until the strawberry cake event that Erza finally found the courage to overcome her fear. The truth was, she was scared of shouldering her responsibility being a full-grown Stratagem, relying more and more on the rest of the family despite the lads' deferment to her leadership and skills. Resolving to do whatever it takes to protect herself and those around her, she secretly learn how to manipulate the nature from Mirajane, and the two became very fast friends. Although, Mirajane seems to have picked up some of Erza's racy quirks as well...

Nature: Modest (+1 SpA, -1 Atk)

Type:
Rock type: Rock STAB; Adds an additional level of Priority (+0 to +1, +3 to +4 etc.) on naturally occurring level-up, egg, tutor, or TM attacks that increase only defense, special defense, or prevent damage (Full list: Acid Armor, Amnesia, Barrier, Defense Curl, Detect, Fast Guard, Harden, Iron Defense, Light Screen, Protect, Reflect, Skull Bash, Stockpile, Wide Guard, Withdraw). Reduced damage from all special attacks by 2 BAP during Sandstorm, immune to Sandstorm damage. Ignores Arena restrictions on Rock attacks requiring an external rock source.

Abilities:
Ability 1: Levitate
Type: Passive
This Pokemon naturally floats above the earth when released or easily takes flight, evading the all seismic moves. Earth Power will have 3 less BAP. Dig and Dive can still strike a Levitating Pokemon, but only if their user is over Size Class 4, has Levitate, is 3.5m or larger, or is a Flying-type. Other Ground moves can still hit.

Ability 2: Technician
Type: Passive
This Pokemon is more skilled at performing weaker moves, causing any of their attacks that normally deal 6 or below base damage to have their base damage multiplied by 1.5. The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack is increased by one (1). Each hit in a multi-hit move is boosted by one (1) damage, and the Energy Cost for multi-hit attacks is increased by two (2).

Ability 3: Mold Breaker (Unlocked)
Type: Passive
Whenever this Pokemon attacks, it emits an invisible, blindingly quick pulse preceding the attack that disables the opponents natural abilities (e.g. Levitators plummet towards the ground before Earthquake hits, Volt Absorb will not absorb electric attacks, Clear Body does not prevent stat-drops, etc.)

Armaldo - Pantherlily (M)
348.png

Gajeel was the one who found Pantherlily's Claw Fossil discarded at the entrance of a mine. Seeing the Murkrow's penchant for it, Zheng decided to go to the nearest archaeological lab and revive it. Pantherlily and Gajeel have been quite attached to each other ever since. They share the same camaraderie towards each other as Natsu and Gray, but at least they didn't have the head-splitting rivalry that the other pair always do. Often after a training session, Gajeel would take Pantherlily up for flight trips, while the latter demonstrates the pleasure of submersion in water. The rest of the family often help Pantherlily too, since he's still much less comfortable on terrestrial environment - Wendy loved piggybacking him and Charla together, while the latter doesn't mind that much.

Pantherlily's much larger size now meant that he would no longer be the protected fossiling now, but a respected fighter in his own right. Swinging his claws with the strength of a shield bash, Pantherlily trains everyday by felling trees for firewood and clearing debris around the monastery backyard. Often in the evenings, the only sounds there are the rustling of his claws as no fallen leaf ever touches the ground.

Nature: Adamant (+1 Atk, -1 SpAtk)

Type:
Bug type: Bug STAB; Adds an additional guaranteed attack on all multi-hit moves (does not include two hit moves) with a total hit cap of five (5).

Reduced damage from all special attacks by 2 Base Attack Power during Sandstorm, immune to Sandstorm damage. Ignores Arena restrictions on Rock attacks requiring an external rock source.

Rias Gremory, "Princess of Crimson Ruin" - Tyrantrum (F)
697.png

Rias is born to a rare family - one in which both her parents were present to take care of her. Before her, they already had a son - who grew up, evolved, and went away to stake his own territory. Being the younger "princess", Rias enjoyed all the privileges - and hardships - that her life as a future empress has to offer, before a cataclysm caused the death of herself and her whole family millions of years before the time of humans.

Being resurrected by Zheng, she is given to and named by Tanner as her Trainer, who somehow also hold another Jaw Fossil that can't be revived - probably because the piece held remnants of both her parents. It is rumoured that Rias' brother walks the earth again this same era that she does, however Rias does not know where to find him.

Evolving into her grown form, Rias still continues the search for her brother. And then she met Issei, then a young Charmander who knew nothing much about the world except the fire in his belly.... Who is just one of her "peerage" of Pokemons, each with stories of their own. She decides that it is high time she declared herself King, and she readies herself for the challenges of her very own monarchy by training relentlessly.

Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpAtk) - caring but stern

Type:
Rock type: Rock STAB; Rias is fast on her mind to add an additional level of Priority on Protect. She also takes reduced damage from all special attacks by two (2) Base Attack Power during Sandstorm, and is immune to Sandstorm damage. Her natural magic can mold and build rocks, ignoring Arena restrictions on Rock attacks requiring an external rock source.
Dragon type: Dragon STAB; -1 BAP on incoming neutral attacks Dragon itself would resist. Her powerful will allows Thrash or Outrage to be undisrupted by oncoming damage.

Abilities:
Ability 1: Strong Jaw
Type: Passive
Rias' thick fang and massive jaws give her incredibly powerful biting attacks, increasing the BAP of all biting attacks by three (3) BAP. Full List: Bite, Crunch, Fire Fang, Ice Fang, Poison Fang, Thunder Fang.

Ability 2: Rock Head (Unlocked)
Type: Passive
Rias' body and willpower fortifies herself in battle, preventing it from taking recoil damage from moves such as Double-Edge, Flare Blitz, and Head Smash.

Vali Lucifer, "White Dragon Emperor" - Aerodactyl (M)
142.png

Born to a lineage of Aerodactyl, with lineages going back as far as time immemorial, Vali was one of the few exceptional case born with great potential. But only one of them. And so he struggled to rise far and above those before it, with the competitive spirit beyond what most would even comprehend. He would use every bit of strength at his disposal just to further his training, and to beat every strong opponent that not just stood in his way, but also those he actively seek out. Currently his long-term project involves resurrecting God to Its True Forme, and challenging it to combat.

Nature: Jolly (+15% Speed, + Accuracy, -1 SpA)

Ability 2: Pressure
Type: Passive
Vali's lineage and raw power means his presence fills the air with intense anxiety, and any damaging or status attack launched at him would cost the his opponents two (2) more energy to perform without sufficient will to overcome his.

Ability 3: Unnerve (Hidden)

The Pokemon's presence causes immense tension in the opponent, preventing them from eating a held Berry. Natural Gift may still be used.

Okay, stay calm. Stay calm. He can perfectly counter the match-up sending out second, so make sure the options are as aplenty as possible ordering second. Cradily / Lunatone / Armaldo / Carracosta / birdie?
XkU3kNn.png

"Let's see what you're bringing as a challenger. This should be one of the best!"
Gogmagog's Core (Lunatone @ Levitate, Rock Head, Solid Rock, Sticky Hold w/ Everstone) and Leatherback (Carracosta @ Sturdy, Swift Swim, Rock Head, Solid Rock, Sticky Hold w/ Cover Fossil) leading.

FUCK. I forgot Fidgit. I am a moron, now I am more screwed than before.

Also I would love to know how the hell am I going to counter this match-up.

Mayor Bo, the Throh with Rage Candy Bar, Mold Breaker and Inner Focus

Cyclohm: Electro Web - Electro Web - Electro Web
[TWO SUBS] IF
Carracosta is under Bide OR Wide Guard is up on ZhengTann's side of the field THEN Hydro Pump (Lunatone)
IF Lunatone is to use Hypnosis this round THEN Electric Terrain A1
Throh: [ACTIVATE RCB] Knock Off (Lunatone) - Storm Throw (Carracosta) - Brick Break (Carracosta)
[TWO SUBS] IF
Blizzard OR Surf THEN [ACTIVATE RCB] Wide Guard
[NOT CONSECUTIVE] IF Pain Split (Throh) THEN Protect and add [ACTIVATE RCB] to the following action
IF Carracosta is to use D/E AND NOT A1 THEN Block (Carracosta) and push back

Not looking pretty I must say.

Leatherback (Carracosta w/ Cover Fossil): Earth Power > Ice Beam + Ice Beam {Liquid Oxygen Stream!!} > combo cooldown (Ice Beam), all @ Gleeok-Cyclohm

1) Why -2 on ElectroWeb vs Lunatone? Solid Rock kicks in only against SE moves and ElectroWeb isn't SE on Lunatone
2) Shouldn't Mold Breaker bypass Solid Rock and Sturdy?
3) Carracosta's final hp seems weird. My calc says 20 before the above.

Continuing this just because people will want to pit EM against Frosty and find out who managed to roflstomp my gym with less mons and rounds. Switch phase initiated!

I Ref!

I forfeit. Until smashlloyd20 insist this is not a lost case. Or whomever is the active (read: can reply in 48 hours) Gym Committee member. Not playing well, nor motivated to, and no amount of which is going to make any kind of comeback.

EDIT: I am dumb in exasperation.
...... Just to clarify I'll maintain the gym fights but would greatly appreciate leniency, my time commitments leave little time to look at ASB with a functioning brain
Sticky Hold is not a good thing, I suppose. Makes no flavour sense anyway. Note to self: Investigate "Rock" and "Rockium-Z".

"Success chance: zero point zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero...... "
Gogmagog's Core (Lunatone).

Carry on then. Here goes nothing.

Gallade: Imprison (Earthquake - Pain Split - Rock Slide) - Drain Punch (Lunatone) - Drain Punch (Lunatone)
[TWO SUBS][Not Consecutive] IF
[Damaging Normal-Typed move AND in a combo] OR [Fairy-Typed damaging combo] AND Gallade is the sole target of either THEN Protect and push back
[ONCE] IF Lunatone's Defense is above Stage 0 when Gallade is to act AND NOT A1 THEN Grass Knot (Lunatone)
IF Lunatone is under P/E AND NOT A1 THEN Drain Punch towards Armaldo and push back
Azumarill: Aqua Tail (Armaldo) - Waterfall (Armaldo) - Aqua Tail (Armaldo)
[TWICE] IF
Armaldo's Defense is above Stage 0 when Azumarill is to act THEN Replace your action with Hydro Pump (Armaldo)
IF Reflect is up AND Armaldo did not use a Defense-Increasing move that action THEN Brick Break (Armaldo) AND push back
IF Armaldo is under P/E THEN Aqua Tail towards Lunatone and push back

I wanted to be the joke where I type "I forfeit" in every post I make forthwith but I figured it's not funny.

Gogmagog's Core (Lunatone w/ Everstone): Sandstorm > Barrier > Charge Beam (Kafei-Azumarill)

Pantherlily (Armaldo w/ Claw Fossil): Cross Poison (Kafei-Azumarill) > Protect (self) > Cross Poison (Kafei-Azumarill)
