romantic/bedroom music

Hey everyone. I am in dire need of some new music that is more on the romantic side. I'm thinking soft background-ish or soundscapy. You know, the kind of music you'd want to hear when you're with that special someone. While the purpose of this thread is to allow me to gather various types of romantic music, I will provide an example for others to use too. This one is fantastic: Broken Social Scene - Feel Good Lost. Exceptionally smooth and non-intrusive.

Here is an example of bedroom music that goes horribly awry: The Decemberists - Castaways and Cutouts album. The second track, Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect is very beautiful and will get you 'in the mood', but the song right after (July, July!) is an inescapable turnoff. It is impossible to make it through that song. So you see what I'm looking for? Stuff that isn't noisy, but instead beautiful and soft. And hey, if you have your own 'in the mood' playlist or whatnot, feel free to share! Let's get it on!

soundscape music?! awesome!

asunder, isis, jesu, pelican, rosetta, neurosis, sunn o, boris, old man gloom, cult of luna, monarch, kylesa, overmars, envy..

or is that not what you're looking for?

Feel Good Lost is what I was going to recommend before I read the post lol. Nice choice ;p

I don't know about Enya, that might be a bit overkill. I might suggest more later, but these are what popped into my head when I saw the topic title:

As Tall As Lions - they're not exactly on my list of "great" bands, but their sound is probably exactly what you're looking for--slightly rockin, but sort of ambient with romantic overtones (lots of piano). Try "Love Love Love" and "Ghosts of York," if you like those two you can dig in more. I will admit, though--they can definitely sound like Coldplay.

Dntel - the guy who handles music making for The Postal Service. He has two solo albums, Life Is Full of Possibilities and Dumb Luck. Avoid the latter. The former, however, is awesome and pretty minimal, it's probably my favorite electronica album ever. Songs to try: Anywhere Anyone, Fear of Corners

The Shins - I'm suggesting this slightly in jest. blah blah blah Zach Braff and stuff, but regardless, The Shins come with a 99% guarantee of making girls wet themselves.

Explosions in the Sky - if you're into post-rock stuff. Good enough to listen to by itself, without being too fast or pounding. Song to try: Your Hand in Mine

Gomez - bluesy rock/pop with some electronic overtones, never too hard though. their older stuff especially is pretty top-notch. Songs: Sweet Virginia, Even Song

Enya if you don't mind soothing vocals. Her instrumentals are a good choice as well, especially A Day Without Rain.

Other than that anything Constance Demby is great, though I don't think it's the romantic type of thing, but she creates an amazing ambient sound, especially in Novus Magnificat.

Other options include:
Rachel's - The Sea and the Bells (chamber music/post rock)
Colleen - The Golden Morning (Ambient, feels like you're drifting)
Lisa Gerrard - The Silver Tree (Dark Ambient, not the best for a romantic scene ;x. Awesome vocals though)
Deaf Center - Pele Ravine (Overall good ambient)

I personally prefer:

Despite the cheesy-looking cover, it's very nice and peaceful.

Or this, if you're looking for something more moving and alluring. Cello's pretty sexy, imo, as is tango music.

Massive Attack - Teardrop

The winner of all ambient back-ground music ever.... Closely followed by

Portishead - Roads

Trip-hop is the way forward for romantic backdrops.
