Moves
========

Hydreigon has spectacular resistances to a vast amount of the metagame but is normally vulnerable to chip damage if it's played defensively. Roost alleviates this problem, allowing Hydreigon to act as a pivot, repeatedly switching in on Fire-types, Grass-types, and more to soak up hits and fire back with its extremely powerful STAB-boosted attacks. Draco Meteor OHKOes even moderately bulky Pokemon such as Landorus-T. Dark Pulse provides coverage on Steel-types, especially Aegislash, and reliability; because it doesn't force Hydreigon to switch out, it is easy to spam. Another option would be to use Dragon Pulse and Earth Power as Hydreigon's attacks for better coverage on Pokemon such as Bisharp, Diancie, and Azumarill, but then Hydreigon loses its fearsome power. Protect is a staple on any Pokemon that can afford it, thanks to its many applications.

Set Details
========

The given Special Attack EVs guarantee an OHKO on 44 HP Landorus-T with Draco Meteor, an OHKO on 4 HP Mega Metagross with Dark Pulse, and a 2HKO on 252 HP / 4 SpD Cresselia if it uses Calm Mind between hits. The Speed EVs are enough to outrun Jolly Breloom and the rest of the EVs are invested in bulk. The HP hits a Life Orb number. Hydreigon needs Life Orb to get almost all of its OHKOs.

Usage Tips
========

This set is used as a pivot: it can come in on a variety of bulky attackers such as Heatran and Aegislash, throw out Dark Pulses or Draco Meteors until it's forced out, and repeat. Roost should be used when Hydreigon is facing Pokemon that cannot outdamage its recovery and either are likely to Protect or are less threatening to your team than Hydreigon is to theirs. If you can avoid revealing Roost until the optimal moment, you can often get it for free and even mess up your opponent's game plan.

Team Options
========

Roost Hydreigon is an excellent pick for teams that want to be able to repeatedly handle special Fire-types, such as Heatran and Charizard, without opening up a weakness to rain. Like Kyurem-B, Roost Hydreigon is excellent at dismantling bulky Fire / Water / Grass cores; while Kyurem-B is better against rain, Hydreigon has a better matchup with sun and Aegislash. Hydreigon has a very bad matchup against Terrakion, Keldeo, and Fairy-types and is setup fodder for Azumarill, so it's important to have partners that can patch up these weaknesses. Some good options are Aegislash and Grass-types, particularly Mega Venusaur, Amoonguss, and Shaymin-S. Those three really appreciate Hydreigon's ability to remove Jirachi as well.

Moves
========
  • Dragon-types have great resists which can be useful to defensive teams but usually they get chipped to death if you try to play em as a pivot, enter roost
  • draco meteor is nuke
  • dark pulse is reliable; spammable. coverage on steels oh boy
  • Another option would be to spam Dragon Pulse and use Earth Power for coverage so u can touch bisharp, diancie (in TR/TW), Azumarill, but then u cant nuke shit so thats unfort.
  • Protect
Set Details
========
  • OHKOes Landorus-T with Draco, ohkoes megagross, 2HKOes 252/4 cress if it CMs after the first hit
  • outspeeds loom, rest bulk
  • LO number
  • Life Orb because Dragons without OHKOes is like mint ice cream without chocolate chips
Usage Tips
========
  • use as pivot
  • spam dark pulse dropping occasional draco nukes
  • roost when hydreigon is in a safe situation, like vs a rotom-w or a heatran or aegislash some shit
  • if u can avoid revealing roost until the optimal moment u can often super duper fuck up your opponents gameplan which is kek
Team Options
========
  • teams that want a Pokemon which can repeatedly handle fire types (esp tran and zard) and also is decent vs Rain at the same time (ludis kind of a poop but u can still roost off his ice beams cuz they do 56% max)
  • super good at dismantling bulky f/w/g based teams as well
  • needs help with fighters, fairies (use aegi?); is kind of set up fodder for azu so beware of that one BUT reks jirachi which is common azu partner ^_^
  • bc of the above, some great partners are the good grasses: mvenu amoonguss skymin: all good at azu bopping, all appreciate jirachi bopping, all dunk fighters and fairies
  • the jews did 9/11

You could just do the entire Hydriegon analysis, as the entire thing needs a revamp. This set could also be combined with Tailwind.

this set cant be combined with tailwind cuz they play way different

reason im not doin the whole analysis is cuz this set needs to go up ASAP and just doing this set is quicker, the other set is passable even if the text could use an update

either way this was always ready for QC i just used the wrong tag whoops

aegislsh with 84(?) speed evs in tailwind beats diancie
we already know aegi is a good partner
its just optimizing the partner!

but this isnt tailwind hydreigon or usually used on tailwind teams

ill mention aegi tho, i already mentioned needing help with fighters and fairies

but this isnt tailwind hydreigon or usually used on tailwind teams

ill mention aegi tho, i already mentioned needing help with fighters and fairies
i read darkmalice's mention of tailwind and i was confused
ignore my advice since this isnt the tailwind set

Tbh Stratos I wouldn't mind TW Hydrei getting an update, tho we can also talk this over and settle on some edits to the set already onsite if you don't want to do a full write up.

Consider renaming this to "bulky attacker" or "bulky pivot" or something, fuck Tailwind btw

I think the Set Details part about Dragon Pulse / Earth Power goes in Moves and not Set Details

do this or argue this with me and 1/3

can we not talk about tailwind hydrei in this analysis thread because this isnt a fucking thread about tailwind hydrei?

implemented arctic's check btw

talked it over on IRC, stratos already made my changes so

Maybe give a couple of examples of the bulky attackers it can switch in on in the usage tips, like Rotom-W, Heatran and Mega Camel.

Other than that it all looks fine to me, 3/3.

standard colors
amcheck so implement if you want
Winry., GatoDelFuego, Queez, and P Squared see who gets this first!

The given Special Attack EVs spread (Only one part in the EV spread distributes to an attacking stat; HP and Defense don't make moves stronger.) guarantees an OHKO on a 44 HP EVed Landorus-T with Draco Meteor, an OHKO on a 4 HP EVed Mega Metagross with Dark Pulse, and a 2HKO on a 252 HP / 4 SpD EVed Cresselia if it uses Calm Mind between hits. The given Speed is EVs are enough to outrun a Jolly natured (Optional) Breloom, and the rest of the EVs are invested in bulk. The HP hits an evenly divisible Life Orb number. "44 HP Landorus-T", "242 HP / 4 SpD Cresselia", etc. has been the standard format as far as I've seen, so no need to change those!

"of which" was actually necessary there; if you want to remove it then you have to change the comma into a semicolon or period. ex: "I bought coffee and flowers, both of which were for my mom" is good; "I bought coffee and flowers; both were for my mom" is also fine; "I bought coffee and flowers, both were for my mom" has a comma error.

you also need the ability in this. iirc, Oglemi made it a rule that the set needs an ability even if the Pokemon has one ability, two or more equally viable abilities, or all terrible abilities.
