Rotom-F is a premier wallbreaker in the PU tier thanks to its decent Speed and great offensive and utility options, allowing it to become a great nuisance for most teams. Its unresisted STAB combination hits the entire tier for at least neutral damage, and its typing in conjunction with Levitate allows it to come in on weaker Pokemon such as defensive Misdreavus, Whiscash, and Gogoat. Will-O-Wisp cripples defensive Pokemon such as Tinkatuff and Perrserker, though Discharge is another option that trades Thunderbolt's damage output for a 30% paralysis chance, which can support a late-game cleaner such as Alolan Persian. Lastly, Volt Switch grants Rotom-F the ability to pivot out of unfavorable matchups such as against Carbink and Crabominable. Substitute can be utilized instead since Rotom-Frost is normally able to force out switch-ins rather efficiently due to its great offensive typing, becoming a terrifying sweeper with the addition of Terastallization. Tera Electric grants Rotom-F an even higher damage output on its main STAB move. Tera Ghost and Tera Water remove its weaknesses to Fighting and Fire-types such as Crabominable and Charizard, respectively.
Thanks to its multitude of options and offensive potential, Rotom-F functions best on offensive and balance teams that appreciate a wallbreaker that’s able to cripple special walls for a late-game cleaner. Alolan Persian and Haunter appreciate Rotom-F’s ability to break through, weaken, or cripple walls such as Gogoat and Carbink. Whiscash is a great defensive teammate for Rotom-F, able to switch in on threats such as Pyroar, Charizard, and Alolan Dugtrio. In return, Rotom-F threatens Grass-types such as Gogoat and Leafeon. Frail wallbreakers such as Basculin and Dugtrio appreciate being brought in safely through Rotom-F's Volt Switch. VoltTurn cores with Perrserker and Honchkrow should also be considered due to the great offensive synergy these Pokemon provide against common defensive cores.
