Rotom-Fan [QC 0/3]

[OVERVIEW]
  • Rotom-Fan's excellent defensive typing, great STAB moves, ability to pivot out and access to utility moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Defog make it a top threat in the tier
  • It possesses a unique typing that allows it to check Pokemon such as Shiftry, Gourgeist-XL and Pinsir and is able to pivot out on Pokemon that threaten it, gaining momentum.
  • Rotom-Fan is also able to act as a bulky pivot to gain momentum off of Pokemon that attempt to counter it and possess further utility with Defog.
  • However, it is quite slow in comparision to other scarfers in the tier and gets taken advantage of by faster Pokemon like Electivire. This greatly inconveniences Rotom-Fan as it is forced into 50/50s.
  • As well as lacking speed, Rotom-Fan also lacks in recovery and relies heavily on Berries to recover health and be able to pivot in and out more freely.
  • Another weak point of Rotom-Fan is its weakness to Stealth Rock. This greatly restricts the amount of pivoting it can do and makes defogging reliably quite difficult.
[SET 1]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Air Slash
move 2: Volt Switch
move 3: Trick
move 4: Will-O-Wisp / Thunderbolt
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves

========

  • Air Slash is Rotom-Fan's preferred STAB which allows it to hit Gourgeist, Pinsir, Shiftry and Combusken. It also allows possible flinches.
  • Volt Switch is one half of Rotom's STAB's and allows it to pivot out on several threats.
  • Trick helps many of its matchups such as Mareanie, Lickilicky and Bronzor. Trick can cripple these counters by removing their items and replacing them with a hindering item, rendering them useless.
  • Will-O-Wisp adds a large amount of utility to Fantom and allows it to cripple the likes of Golem and Electivire, both of which are problems for Rotom-S.
Set Details

========

  • Choice Scarf makes Rotom-Fan a fantastic option for speed control and a pivot
  • Max Spatk is to hit as hard as possible: OHKO Shiftry after rocks, 2HKO Gourgeist, OHKO Combusken
  • Max speed allows Fantom to outspeed possible threats and reach useful benchmarks: +1 Combusken, Swanna, Rapidash, Kadabra
Usage Tips

========

  • Rotom-S should be sent out against pokemon that are unable to hurt it such as Mareanie, Gourgeist-XL and Silvally-Fighting. These allow Rotom to acquire a free Volt Switch or whatever may be ideal.
  • It fits best on Bulky Offense style teams as it enjoys pivoting out and chipping opposing pokemon. It also is able to create many 50/50 scenarios for the opponent which pressure them into letting Rotom Volt Switch without being punished. Its amazing movepool and great options force many pokemon in unfavourable situations or 50/50s.
  • It should be used with caution as pivoting in and out constantly while rocks are up will cause it to lose HP constantly and it possesses no form of recovery.
  • Rotom-S should be used as a sort of revenge killer and speed control. Trick and Will-O-Wisp allow it to gain further utility as well and give it a way to deal with Electivire and Golem.
Team Options

========

  • Many pokemon compliment Rotom-S very well.
  • Good hazard removers such as Komala and Silvally-Fighting compliment it extremely well as they can let it pivot in and out with much more ease and consistency. Stealth Rock limits Rotom's ability to pivot so good removers are very important.
  • Pokemon such as Shiinotic and Bronzor that are able to safely switch into either Golem or Electivire help Rotom-S drastically as it struggles against them.
  • Wallbreakers such as Choice Band Komala and Pinsir are able to break through common Spdef walls such as Lickilicky and Muk which severely threaten Rotom as it is almost unable to touch them.

Moves

========

  • Volt Switch is Rotom-S' main STAB as it allows it to pivot out on its main counters and chip opposing pokemon
  • Defog removes hazards such as Stealth Rock that critically hinder it's ability to pivot freely.
  • Air Slash is the other half of Rotom's STAB and lets it hit Shiftry, Gourgeist, Combusken
  • Will-O-Wisp cripples Golem and Electivire, both of which threaten it as it is unable to hurt with STAB.
  • Pain Split is its second form of recovery that recovers large amounts of HP against Pokemon that wall it such as Lickilicky
Set Details

========

  • Wiki Berry is Rotom-S' only form of reliable recovery. After constantly pivoting with Volt Switch, Wiki Berry helps to keep it healthy if Stealth Rocks are up. It also makes it more difficult to chip as it can recover a lot of health back when it is weakened, improving its longevity.
  • Leftovers, similarly to Wiki Berry, is one of Rotom-S' only form of recovery which helps it to not be constantly chipped throughout a game.
  • 252 Speed lets Rotom-F outspeed the likes of: Pinsir, Shiftry, Monferno
  • 252 HP gives Rotom good bulk , but more specifically allows its berry to activate after switching into Stealth Rock thrice.
Usage Tips

========

  • Rotom-S should be used with caution as its lack of recovery and Stealth Rock weakness means that it constantly finds itself getting chipped with almost no reliable way to recovery the health back. This also prohibits it from constantly pivoting in and out.
  • It should be brought in on things that are unable to hurt it significantly such as: Silvally-Fighting, Mareanie etc.
  • This particular set prefers Bulky Offense as Rotom-S can be switched in through Voltturn, letting it defog reliably on the Pokemon that cannot hurt it. It can force many switches due its extremely diverse movepool which also helps it defog reliably.
  • It should be played aggressively as it must switch into a Pokemon using Stealth Rocks before it is able to use it to stop it getting chipped by Stealth Rock on the switch.
Team Options

========

  • Pokemon that break common specially defensive walls such as Lickilicky and Muk make for great partners with Rotom-S. This includes Shiftry and Choice Band Komala. These are useful as they are able to switch into Rotom's counters and force them out, allowing it to Defog freely.
  • U-turn users such as Silvally-Fighting and Komala make fantastic partners with Rotom-S due to their ability to create a Voltturn core to gain immense amounts of momentum and force several switches, allowing for Rotom-S to be brought in safely and to bring in other mons safely as well.
  • Pairing Rotom-S with answers to Electivire and Golem such as Shiinotic or Silvally-Fighting will help it exponentially as answers to these threats will improve its longevity and its ability to remove hazards as it does not need to worry about being revenge killed by these two.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options

=============

  • Hidden Power Ground can be ran on either set to further threaten Golem and Electivire. This prohibits either from switching in reliably if you are not running Will-O-Wisp, however, Will-O-Wisp outclasses this as it does much to further cripple them and can cripple more mons, rather than just dealing with those two.
  • A bulky Z-move set can be ran with the same set as the Bulky Pivot set, but Flyinium Z over Leftovers or Wiki Berry. This gives Rotom a free nuke to use on anything.
Checks and Counters

===================

**Special Walls**: Pokemon such as Muk and Lickilicky completely wall Rotom-S as it's STAB attacks are unable to hurt them. The former is able to set up Curse on Rotom while the latter is able to pass wishes for free.

**Golem**: Golem is able to resist both of Rotom-S' STABs and can switch in on either. This allows it to choose to set up Stealth Rock or attack without many consequences, especially if running Choice Scarf

**Electivire**: Similarly to Golem, Electivire resists both of Rotom's STABS and allows it to switch in on any move other than Will-O-Wisp. This pressures it greatly as it outspeeds it and can threaten it with Ice Punch or give momentum to your opponent with Volt Switch

[OVERVIEW]
  • Rotom-Fan's excellent defensive typing, great STAB moves, ability to pivot out and access to utility moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Defog make it a top threat in the tier Top tier threat is a tad misleading, more accurate to say top tier utility Pokemon. Mention Trick and Pain Split under utility moves
  • It possesses a unique typing that allows it to check Pokemon such as Shiftry, Gourgeist-XL and Pinsir and is able to pivot out on Pokemon that threaten it, gaining momentum. give an example or two of those Pokemon
  • Rotom-Fan is also able to act as a bulky pivot to gain momentum off of Pokemon that attempt to counter it and possess further utility with Defog. Bulky Rotom-S should be the primary set, should add a new point specifically for Scarf because the first two points do not mention it. Adjust this point accordingly
  • However, it is quite slow in comparision to other scarfers in the tier and gets taken advantage of by faster Pokemon like Electivire. This greatly inconveniences Rotom-Fan as it is forced into 50/50s. Too specific for overview, can say that its STABs are easy to switch into (esp since Air Slash is weak)
  • As well as lacking speed, Rotom-Fan also lacks in recovery and relies heavily on Berries to recover health and be able to pivot in and out more freely. Lack of reliable recovery* Pain Split helps slightly when it fits. Mention that Rotom-S is prone to chip as well
  • Another weak point of Rotom-Fan is its weakness to Stealth Rock. This greatly restricts the amount of pivoting it can do and makes defogging reliably quite difficult.

Moves

========

  • Air Slash is Rotom-Fan's preferred STAB which allows it to hit Gourgeist, Pinsir, Shiftry and Combusken. It also allows possible flinches. Fluff
  • Volt Switch is one half of Rotom's STAB's and allows it to pivot out on several threats. Fluff. Overview talks about Volt Switch and usage tips will go into detail on Vswitch, so no need to talk about it here.
  • Trick helps many of its matchups such as Mareanie, Lickilicky and Bronzor. Trick can cripple these counters by removing their items and replacing them with a hindering item, rendering them useless. Mareanie is not a counter, mention something else like Wish Komala.
  • Will-O-Wisp adds a large amount of utility to Fantom and allows it to cripple the likes of Golem and Electivire, both of which are problems for Rotom-S.
Need to talk about TBolt. It can be used over Wisp to allow Rotom-S to...

Set Details

========
  • Choice Scarf makes Rotom-Fan a fantastic option for speed control and a pivot
  • Max Spatk is to hit as hard as possible: OHKO Shiftry after rocks, 2HKO Gourgeist, OHKO Combusken Fluff
  • Max speed allows Fantom to outspeed possible threats and reach useful benchmarks: +1 Combusken, Swanna, Rapidash, Kadabra Can combine this with the first point
Usage Tips

========

  • Rotom-S should be sent out against pokemon that are unable to hurt it such as Mareanie, Gourgeist-XL and Silvally-Fighting. These allow Rotom to acquire a free Volt Switch or whatever may be ideal. Shouldn't be vague. Be specific in usage tips (i.e Air Slash to hit the latter two)
  • It fits best on Bulky Offense style teams as it enjoys pivoting out and chipping opposing pokemon. It also is able to create many 50/50 scenarios for the opponent which pressure them into letting Rotom Volt Switch without being punished. Its amazing movepool and great options force many pokemon in unfavourable situations or 50/50s. Not really usage tips so you'll have to rework the whole point. Could say that Rotom-S should be wary of which STAB move it locks itself into. For example, Air Slash allows it to pressure Fighting-, Grass-, and Bug-type Pokemon, but allows Pokemon such as Bronzor and Golem to switch in. Tbolt is similar (can explain how)
  • It should be used with caution as pivoting in and out constantly while rocks are up will cause it to lose HP constantly and it possesses no form of recovery.
  • Rotom-S should be used as a sort of revenge killer and speed control. Trick and Will-O-Wisp allow it to gain further utility as well and give it a way to deal with Electivire and Golem. This should be the first line as it explains its use as a Scarf user
Mention when Rotom-S should switch in.

Team Options

========

  • Many pokemon compliment Rotom-S very well. Fluff, need to go straight to the point and mention who those Pokemon are.
  • Good hazard removers such as Komala and Silvally-Fighting compliment it extremely well as they can let it pivot in and out with much more ease and consistency. Stealth Rock limits Rotom's ability to pivot so good removers are very important. Mention what they help check for Rotom-S
  • Pokemon such as Shiinotic and Bronzor that are able to safely switch into either Golem or Electivire help Rotom-S drastically as it struggles against them.
  • Wallbreakers such as Choice Band Komala and Swords Dance Pinsir are able to break through common Spdef walls such as Lickilicky and Muk which severely threaten Rotom as it is almost unable to touch them.
Mention entry hazard setters as they provide chip damage that helps Rotom-S revenge kill Pokemon. Mention Grass- and Water-type Pokemon as they help eliminate Ground-types so Rotom-S can Volt Switch freely.

[SET]

name: Bulky Pivot
move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Defog
move 3: Air Slash
move 4: Will-O-Wisp / Pain Split
item: Wiki Berry / Leftovers
ability: Levitate

evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Move order should be Volt Switch, Air Slash, Will-O-Wisp, Defog / Pain Split. Bulky Rotom-S should be running WoW most, if not all the time.

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves

========

  • Volt Switch is Rotom-S' main STAB as it allows it to pivot out on its main counters and chip opposing pokemon Give examples. More importantly, it allows Rotom-S to safely bring in teammates.
  • Defog removes hazards such as Stealth Rock that critically hinder it's ability to pivot freely. Fluff
  • Air Slash is the other half of Rotom's STAB and lets it hit Shiftry, Gourgeist, Combusken Fluff
  • Will-O-Wisp cripples Golem and Electivire, both of which threaten it as it is unable to hurt with STAB.
  • Pain Split is its second form of recovery that recovers large amounts of HP against Pokemon that wall it such as Lickilicky Adjust with set changes (why use pain split over defog)
Set Details

========

Mention that a spread of 252 HP / 208 Def / 48 Speed with a Bold nature can be used to improve Rotom-S' physical bulk and outspeed Adamant Pawniard. However, this spread forces Rotom-S to survive an attack from Shiftry, Choice Band Komala, and Pinsir, Pokemon it would otherwise outspeed and threaten out or pivot on with VSwitch

Usage Tips

========

  • Rotom-S should be used with caution as its lack of recovery and Stealth Rock weakness means that it constantly finds itself getting chipped with almost no reliable way to recovery the health back. This also prohibits it from constantly pivoting in and out. What if it's running Defog or Pain Split? Make a new point after this mentioning those (i.e can switch into rocks to remove them or can switch into rocks then pain split against a healthier foe)
I get what you mean. However, any time something is phrased like this, it belongs in team options. Instead, say something like "Rotom-S should be brought in off teammate's pivot or off a double switch"
  • It should be played aggressively as it must switch into a Pokemon using Stealth Rocks before it is able to use it to stop it getting chipped by Stealth Rock on the switch. Be careful with this type of information because Rotom-S may be able to keep Stealth Rock off the field, but in doing so it trades health or even loses to rockers such as offensive Golem, Bronzor, Crustle, and so on. Specify which rockers it can afford to do this on and that it should be wary of incoming attacks.
Mention that Rotom-S should choose to check certain Pokemon rather than constantly switching into resisted attacks. This is because Rotom-S usually needs to stay healthy to switch into or check Pokemon such as Shiftry, Combusken, Leafeon, and Pinsir for example.

Team Options

========

  • Pokemon that break common specially defensive walls such as Lickilicky and Muk make for great partners with Rotom-S. This includes Shiftry and Choice Band Komala. These are useful as they are able to switch into Rotom's counters and force them out, allowing it to Defog freely. Special walls do not prevent Rotom-S from clicking Defog. Rather, you should say that Rotom-S invites in bulky Pokemon that it can Volt Switch on and bring in those teammates you mentioned.
Mention Grass- and Water-types that can check Rock- and Ground-types for Rotom-S. Mention Pokemon that can threaten entry hazard setters such as Bronzor and offensive Golem, who can threaten Rotom-S and keep rocks on the field. Mention Pokemon that appreciate Rotom-S' ability to check Grass-, Bug-, and Fighting-type Pokemon (plus Swanna/Mareanie) as well as Pokemon that appreciate entry hazard removal.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options

=============

More importantly, it makes it easier to switch into Shiftry's Knock Off.
Checks and Counters

===================

**Special Walls**: Pokemon such as Muk and Lickilicky completely wall Rotom-S as it's STAB attacks are unable to hurt them. The former is able to set up Curse on Rotom while the latter is able to pass wishes for free. Licky needs to watch out for trick

**Golem**: Golem is able to resist both of Rotom-S' STABs and can switch in on either. This allows it to choose to set up Stealth Rock or attack without many consequences, especially if running Choice Scarf Must be wary of wisp

Mention **Residual Damage** because Rotom-S is weak to rocks, takes a lot of chip, and lacks reliable recovery. Change Electivire to **Electric-types** and expand on that point.
