Rotom-H (Fire) [QC 0/2]

IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Discharge
- Overheat
- Substitute / Defog

[Details]
Rotom-H a versatile set-up sweeper that seriously pressures Water-type teams once electric immunities have been removed. Nasty Plot buffs Rotom-H’s power considerably, enabling it to break bulkier Pokémon like Toxapex and restore it’s Special Attack stat after using Overheat. The dual STABs of Discharge and Overheat provide not only the most raw power but also the best coverage of any moves Rotom-H learns. While Substitute would usually be the clear choice for the last move due to its synergy with Rotom-H’s ability to force switches and general usefulness on a set up sweeper, some trainers opt to run Defog due to Fire’s crushing weakness to Stealth Rocks. Heavy Duty Boots increases Rotom-H’s longevity and ability to switch into favorable attacks by protecting it from Stealth Rock damage.

With 8 residences, an immunity to Ground-type attacks, and decent bulk, Rotom-H can often find times to switch in and take minimal damage. However care must be taken to make sure that Rotom-H doesn’t get worn down due to its lack of recovery. Cinderace and Volcarona appreciate its ability to sponge Thunder Wave, protecting them from otherwise crippling status conditions, and threaten defensive Water-types including Slowbro, Peliper, and Toxapex who can otherwise threaten to wall Fire’s offense. Rotom-H in turn benefits from Cinderace’s and Volcarona’s ability to take on Pokémon like Seismitoed and Marowak-Alola who resist both of its STABs. Rotom-H is extremely weak to Mold Breaker Excadrill, and relies on Charizard and – to a lesser extent – Torkal to protect it from powerful Earthquakes.

[Set]
Name: Screens
Rotom-Heat @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Volt Switch
- Defog / Will-O-Wisp

[Details]
Rotom-H is the premier screens user for offensive Fire-type teams. Reflect and Light Screen reduce all in-coming physical and special damage respectively by 50%, and Light Clay prolongs those effects for an additional four turns. Volt Switch allows Rotom-H to remove itself from danger without sacrificing too much momentum while still nailing Water- and Flying-type Pokémon for real damage. For its final move, Defog allows Rotom-H to act as back-up hazard removal in case Torkal dies, while Will’o’Wisp further advances the damage reduction plan by cutting the base power of incoming physical attacks by another 50%.

All of Rotom-H’s teammates appreciate dual screens halving damage from incoming attacks. While dual screens and setup sweepers are a classic pairing, the tendency of Fire teams to run defense-boosting setup sweepers like Quiver Dance Volcarona and Bulk Up Cinderace allow it to be extra effective. One particularly important situation that screens ease is that Volcarona can Quiver Dance in the face of Peliper on rain teams when screens are up. Behind Reflect it survives Barreskewda’s Waterfall and Azumerril’s Aqua Jet and OHKOs in return at +1, and it behind Light Screen it survives Specs-boosted Hydro Pumps from Peliper or Kingdra at +1 and outspeeds and OHKOs at +2. Rotom-H is vulnerable to Ground-type Pokémon like Seismitoed, Excadrill, and Hippopowdon who can take advantage of Rotom’s inability to interact with them if it does not carry Will’o’Wisp. Rotom-H appreciates Charizard’s ground immunity, as otherwise Ground-type Pokémon can fire off Earthquakes and wait for Rotom-H to switch out.

I’m not sure how clear I am when talking about Screens + Volc vs Water, but in a neutral start vs Peliper with Barreskewda, Azumerril, Kingdra, and Seismitoed on the bench a Volcarona behind screens can successfully set up and take out several serious threats, if not sweep the entire team.

Explain its EVs here.

Notes:
Analysis 1: Nasty Plot
- Rotom-H a versatile set-up sweeper that seriously pressures Water-type teams once electric immunities have been removed. Its a weird way to introduce the mon imo, the Water-type matchup is really not a winnable matchup.
- Mention Torkoal's drought and its description along with Alolan Marowak, Incineroar in P2
- Mention its EV reasoning, why maximizing spa/spe helps wallbreaking potential

- Rotom-H is extremely weak to Mold Breaker Excadrill, and relies on Charizard and – to a lesser extent – Torkal to protect it from powerful Earthquakes. Mention Choice Scarf Charizard and how it synergizes with Torkoal and Drought.
- Cinderace and Volcarona appreciate its ability to sponge Thunder Wave, protecting them from otherwise crippling status conditions, and threaten defensive Water-types including Slowbro, Peliper, and Toxapex who can otherwise threaten to wall Fire’s offense. This paragraph should talk about how does these teammates benefit Rotom, not how Rotom-H benefits the rest of the team. Say that stuff in P1.

Analysis 2: Dual Screens Pivot
- Screens. Renaming this to Dual Screens Pivot seems better considering its the exact same set from Gen7Monotype. Reference: https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/rotom-heat/monotype/
- Explain the EV spreads
- Mention Torkoal in P2
- Rotom-H is vulnerable to Ground-type Pokémon like Seismitoed, Excadrill, and Hippowdon who can take advantage of Rotom’s inability to interact with them if it does not carry Will’o’Wisp. This should be mentioned the first paragraph.

Overall this shouldn't really be talking a lot about how Fire can overcome the Water matchup, as the mu is similar to something like Grass vs Fire. Mentioning other Pokemon that aren't just water-types would also be useful in both analyses. Giving examples in P1 of of the NP set can help with the description. Add more examples of what x and x is for.

This is a AMcheck, meaning its optional for you to implement these comments, but this is not a QC check, gl
