Rotom-H is an amazing wall breaker that is good at breaking through strong defensive pokemon like Corviknight, Ferrothorn, and Mandibuzz. The four most common moves on Rotom-H are Nasty Plot, Discharge, Overheat, and Pain Split/Toxic. Nasty Plot is to boost Rotom's already good special attack and it allows it to throw off Discharges and Overheats to hit anything on a swap in. The last move is usually Pain Split which is Rotom's only reliable healing move and it allows Rotom to heal up while also damaging the opponent. This is best shown against a blissey where you could heal up almost all your health from one pain split while also chipping the blissey. This Rotom-H set finds its niche on more bulky offense teams. Common teammates include Clefable, Mandibuzz, and Corvignight. This is due to Rotom being able to Nasty Plot and breakthrough teams to the point where other sweepers and or defensive pokemon can win the game in the end. Along with that it being able to nasty plot attack than heal up with Pain Split allows it to stay alive much longer and keep being a threat toward defensive pokemon. While Rotom-H is a good pokemon every pokemon has its weaknesses and Rotom is no different. The main checks to Rotom-H include Mold breaker Excadrill, Water-Urshifu, Toxic Blissey, and dragapult. This is due to Excadrill being able to outspeed it and kill it with one swift earthquake, same with Urshifu-Water being able to kill it with surging strikes and lastly Blissey being able to stall out Rotom with the combination of Softboiled and Toxic.

While Rotom-H's main set is known for boosting its Special Attack and unloading powerful Discharges/Overheats Rotom-H can also run a very defensive set that acts as a pivot. Being able to Volt Switch around and keep up momentum can be huge in a game allowing you to bring in offensive threats and try to break through your opponent’s team. The Four most common moves that don’t really switch around are Volt Switch, Overheat, Toxic, and Pain Split. Volt Switch is to keep up momentum being able to volt switch into other pokemon to keep up the pressure helps you stay ahead of your opponent. While overheat is made to just get as much damage as possible if needed. Next is toxic to poison pokemon like hippowdon that come into Rotom-H pretty free and can be a thorn in rotoms side. Lastly, we have Pain Split to mainly heal up and get chip on your opponent at the same time. For example, if you are certain a blissey is coming in you can pain split to heal yourself back up and pivot around it next turn. Most offensive pokemon like Rillaboom, Dragapult, Jirachi can all be good teammates because they keep up the pressure and can create volt turn cores which can be very hard for your opponent to stop. Lastly pokemon that Rotom-H has trouble with are things like Kommo-o who can eat volt switches and Overheats easily and get up rocks or toxic. Other threats include Hydreigon, Hippowdown, and Dragapult. These pokemon can all swap in and punish Rotom-H with strong moves or in the case of hippowdon can toxic and or chip you with sand.
