RU Balance with AV Drapion + Scarf Meloetta

http://pastebin.com/Ky3Dxg8J

At first I made this as a team to wear down teams with Toxic and Stealth then picking them off with Clawitzer and Scarf Meloetta but as I kept using this team I noticed it struggled with many threats in the tier and thus this is how the team came out as. If you are using this team you could try replacing Clawitzer with Scarf Braviary and switching Meloetta with Life Orb. Scarf Braviary, which I have not tried yet, I thought would be a great way to revenge kill common threats to my team such as Delphox, Virizion and Scrafty which all three can easily set-up and win. Reminder that if you do choose to do so, let me know how it goes and just overall if you are using it but if Clawitzer is gone you lose a good way to kill M-Steelix. Also beware of M-Camerupt, Magneton, Bulk Up Scrafty (if it's DDance Scrafty you just click X), and Emboar as if they go unchecked you could end up losing. This balanced team should be played carefully but overall I think it's a very solid team if played right.

Drapion @ Assault Vest
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe
Careful Nature
- Pursuit
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab
- Aqua Tail

At first I was using a standard Drapion set with Toxic (since T-Spikes counteracted with Spore) but then as I started running into more CM Virizion and Delphox, which my team REALLY struggles with, I decided to run AV to better check the 2. The reason I decided not to switch out any other mons in order to check these 2 were cause I really liked the look of my team.

Amoonguss @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Spore
- Hidden power Fire

Amoonguss in general is a great mon. With great typing it can wall or check electric mons which my teams does not handle very well such as Magneton and Jolteon. It also serves as a good counter to Hitmonlee a very powerful mon in the RU tier. The reason I ran rocky helmet was on a whim. You could run clear smog in order to deal with set-up mons better since my team does struggle to OHK these mons. You could also run HP Fire in order to deal with Durant better for which Jellicent is my only check to it.

Rhyperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 196 HP / 16 Atk / 252 SpD / 44 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Roar
- Rock Blast

I actually made this team awhile back when I was playing RU. After I took a break I picked up RU again and fixed this team up. Prior to building the team I had a Sp.Def Rhyperior with a weird spread. I can only speculate it was a backup check to Exlpoud. I kept it on my team because it helped check Flethinder and Braviary which my team lacks have a flying resist. Change the spread if you like. Rhyperior is also my only stealth rocker. You run roar as a last ditch effort to deal with set-up mons as you don't want D-tail missing.

Meloetta @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 32 HP / 252 SpA / 224 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Dazzling Gleam
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic

Meloetta serves as a good mon in general breaking down teams that lack a good resist. I also ran it due to it's ability to deal with offensive teams which is the bane of my team. Note that I also ran shadow only cause it was annoying to deal with ghost types as I didn't have a good way to 2HKO them with Meloetta. I also only ran 228 speed to outspeed Jolly max speed Rotom-C and I put the rest into HP in order to take hits better. You could also run 176 speed and 80 HP giving it greater bulk and outspeeding Scarf Braviary and anything below. Meloetta can also run a different spread of Jolly max speed in order to speed tie with a +1 Venomoth but Jellicent can 1v1 it and win. Rhyperior can also take it on and beat it 1v1.

Clawitzer @ Life Orb
Ability: Mega Launcher
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Water Pulse
- Aura Sphere
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam

Clawitzer is just a great mo in general in the RU tier with it's powerful Sp.Atk. With it's coverage moves paired with it's Sp.Atk it can easily cripple many defensive mons in the tier which my team may struggle with. It is KEY to take down M-Steelix and Scrafty which was a major pain for my team. Also beware that Clawitzer is running Life orb and that I am not running hazard control so it can be whittled down easily.

Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 208 Def / 52 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt
- Shadow Ball
- Scald
- Recover

I added Jellicent onto the team as my team lacked a good ice and water check that wouldn't get burned. As you can see I ran taunt to prevent being set-up bait and to stallbreak defensive mons. I also ran shadow ball as a secondary stab move to wear down defensive mons but you could run Ice Beam to OHK Flygon which could be a problem should you let Amoonguss get weakened. Also note my team can lose to M-Glalie so keep Jellicent very healthy.

To point it out I had synthesis on Amoonguss before changing it to HP Fire. I realized synthesis served no purpose and HP fire was better while I wrote all the little analysis. LOL so change synthesis to HP fire if you choose to run this team. :]]]]]

Okay so cool team. Here are the following changes:
  • I don't really think Assault Vest Drapion is good overall, because you can run Pokemon that checks Calm Mind Virizion and Delphox, so therefore, I think the Specially Defensive Toxic Spikes variant is better.
  • With Toxic Spikes in your arsenal, the opponent would really want to Defog away and this is why you can run a Choice Scarf Braviary over Clawitzer, which can switch into Defog and become really dangerous. Braviary can also check Scrafty at +1 as well as Life Orb Delphox so you still have ways to deal with it.
  • Since you have Choice Scarf Braviary, running Choice Specs / Life Orb Meloetta is a good idea since it lets you do massive damage to the opponent's team; punching holes in it and clearing for a Braviary clean.
  • I'd also run Will-o-Wisp over Shadow Ball on Jellicent since that let's you cripple Choice Scarf Flygon, Hitmonlee, and Mega Steelix.
  • Lastly, I'd run a Mega Steelix over Rhyperior, since Rhyperior cannot check Exploud since it can use Surf, and Mega Steelix can switch into Boombursts while Jellicent can switch into Fire Blast or Surf. Mega Steelix gives you a great check to Mega Glalie and Abomasnow which your team seems weak against.
Here are the sets:
Drapion @ Black Sludge
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Taunt
- Toxic Spikes
- Whirlwind

Braviary @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Return
- Superpower
- U-turn

Steelix-Mega @ Steelixite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 224 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Heavy Slam
- Roar

Good luck!

Hey there nice team :)

I'd run Stun Spore on Amoonguss over HP Fire. Crippling fire switchins that thinks to be free after someone is sleeped can be nice, since fire types looks really threatening to your team, since they can pass throug your team with their coverage. Also like Arifeen suggested, SpDef Drapion over the AV set you have now can work pretty well, but instead of Taunt on the set you are using I suggest you to use Poison Jab, in order to have a second check to grass and fairy types!

On Meloetta I have some comment on the moveset. I think that Trick can help you to cripple some walls or just to change items when you can outspeed the whole opponent team, or just the mons alive if you're in late game. Focus Blast can also let you hit much harder steel types, which can come for free on Melo taking a really low damage. The move you should remove to give space for these 2 are Hyper Voice and Shadow Ball.

Samurott over Clawtizer is another change you might take in consideration. Clawtizer and Samu have a similar bulk and fire power, although Samurott's coverage is much better as it can hit decently hard almost every mon in the tier bar some specific case like AV Meloetta and spdef Aromatisse, and his higher speed makes him more difficult to revenge kill. Also his access to Taunt can help you againist the likes of Scrafty, preventing him to setup in front of you!

I guess this is all you can change, solid team mate, good luck with it :toast:
Samurott @ Life Orb
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot
- Taunt

I decided to run Scarf Braviary over Clawitzer in order revenge many mons that threaten my team. I feel it does a better job than Samurott since it lacks the ability to revenge Delphox, Virizion and DDance Scrafty. But I will take Samurott and Focus Miss Meloetta into consideration if M-Steelix becomes a major problem for my team. Also I like to point out my team doesn't necessarily struggle against defensive mons so I would prefer not to run trick but also cause having Psychic enables me to have a secondary check to Amoonguss which is the few mons that I do struggle to take down if Braviary gets weakened. I also wanna point Scrafty is a BIG threat to this team and having Dazzling Gleam enables me to hit it with a powerful move whittling it down for my team to take down.
