[RU Beta] My First RMT: Specsploud's Sticky Web Massacre

As we all know, the eagerly awaited RU ladder came out on Friday. Being a fan of the lower tiers, I decided to have a go at laddering. It has performed fairly well, but I am looking to improve it even more. After many tweaks to this team, I present to you my first RMT.

raikou.gif

Raikou @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunderbolt
- Substitute
- Calm Mind

CM Raikou was a threatening sweeper in UU, and in RU Beta no less. Substitute to protect from status and other things, Thunderbolt for STAB, and Hidden Power Ice for BoltBeam coverage. I usually pull out this thing during late game and attempt to clean.

shuckle.gif

Shuckle @ Red Card
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 68 Def / 188 SDef
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Sticky Web
- Knock Off
- Toxic

Standard utility Shuckle. Stealth Rock and Sticky Web both help the team sweep, Knock Off because no pokemon really likes having no item (except for Hitmonlee), Red Card is the bane of all setup sweepers, and Toxic helps cripple threats to the team. Nothing can really OHKO this thing except for maybe banded Escavalier, so that's why I chose it for my reliable hazard setter.

exploud.gif

Exploud @ Choice Specs
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Boomburst
- Focus Blast
- Overheat
- Surf

Specsploud is a monster. It can 2HKO nearly anything with his specs-boosted Boomburst, and Sticky Web helps patch up its low speed. EVs are invested in speed instead of bulk because after Sticky Web, you need a mon with 352 speed to outrun this thing.

durant.gif

Durant @ Focus Sash
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Hone Claws
- Iron Head
- X-Scissor
- Rock Slide

I chose Durant over Escavalier because it's faster and hits harder. Focus Sash ensures a Hone Claws boost, which boosts its attack to a staggering 713 after the Hustle boost. Iron Head and X-Scissor for Stab, Rock Slide for coverage. Any super-effective hit from this mon will kill, and any normally effective hit from this mon will cripple.

hitmonchan.gif

Hitmonchan (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Atk / 96 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Drain Punch
- Fire Punch
- Ice Punch

AV Hitmonchan is my spinner and tank. It checks many threats, such as Escavalier:
252+ Atk Escavalier Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Hitmonchan: 180-213 (59.2 - 70%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
160+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Escavalier: 332-392 (96.5 - 113.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

and Kyurem:
220+ SpA Kyurem Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 96 SpD Assault Vest Hitmonchan: 129-153 (42.4 - 50.3%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO
160+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Drain Punch vs. 52 HP / 0 Def Kyurem: 282-332 (69.8 - 82.1%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

It also makes for a surprisingly effective late-game cleaner.

uxie.gif

Uxie @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Def
Calm Nature

- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Heal Bell
- Foul Play

[changes in bold]

I originally had an Azelf in this slot, but I decided to sack speed for bulk and replace my dual screening lead with Uxie. Dual Screens allow my pokemon to set up while taking hits. I stuck Heal Bell on this thing because I notice nobody on my team really likes status. U-Turn is on this with minimum speed because it provides a free switch into a potential sweeper.

Conclusion: I think that this team is effective at performing its role, which is to eliminate top-tier threats and then clean. I have however noticed that I am quite vulnerable to offensive Azelf and Zoroark, and also other prominent scarfers like Medicham and Braviary. This is why I posted this RMT, to help eliminate threats and gain feedback.

That's all for this RMT, thanks for reading!

I really want to test this team out.

Do you mind if I use it for a few matches? It's be a cool team to play around with.

My RU team has Azelf with NG Explosion, so I'm not the best RU player around :P

Your team depends on Sticky Web too much and therefore you lose against two of the most threatening Pokemon in the metagame right now: Tornadus and Azelf. They both cleanly an effortlessly sweep through your team, and even better if paired with Dugtrio, as it can effectively trap and kill Raikou, your only answer to Tornadus.

That issue practically can't be fixed because neither Pokemon are counterable, lol. I just suggest sticking in Foul Play somewhere on Uxie, as it can 2HKO Azelf, and use a spread of 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Def Careful (or sassy w/e) set instead of your current one. This can help with Azelf, and to an extent Tornadus also.

Thanks for the advice! Since I replaced U-Turn with Foul Play, I decided to go for a Calm nature with 31 IVs in speed instead so I could potentially outspeed and set up on more things.

lrode , another Pokemon that this team has some serious issues with actually taking out is Competitive Milotic. Odd Choice Specs versions are incredibly dangerous, but typical LO Competitive Milotic variants can prove problematic since it gets a guaranteed Competitive boost due to Sticky Web and few Pokemon on your team can actually OHKO it. For this reason, you could try using Assault Vest Eelektross over either Hitmonchan or Raikou. I would try over Hitmonchan first as your team isn't really weak to hazards (maybe against TSpikes, but that just makes Durant your primary sweeper instead of Raikou) Eel can tank quite a few powerful attacks and respond with strong attacks of its own. It provides a reliable check to Escavalier, Kyurem, and even Shaymin (watch SpDef drops though) The best part is that it can destroy Ground-types with Giga Drain to help Raikou sweep. Another thing to look at is utilizing a Lum Berry on Durant. This can allow Durant to perform much better against stall teams since it can find additional setup opportunities against the likes of Cresselia and defensive Milotic. Also note that this prevents Sableye from killing your damage output with a burn.

Durant= Change Focus Sash to Lum Berry
Hitmonchan= Replace with AV Eelektross

Eelektross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 216 SAtk / 48 SDef
Nature: Quiet
- Volt Switch / Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off / U-turn

Use Knock Off with Volt Switch and Thunderbolt with U-turn. You want a momentum building move; just pick the combo that works better for you

Hi, I have played a little with sticky web in this meta game, and I think that you are going about using Shuckle incorrectly, and there is a better way to guarantee sticky web as well as still avoid being set up bait.

Shuckle @ Mental Herb
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 68 Def / 188 SDef
Calm Nature
- Sticky Web
- Encore
- Stealth Rock
- Knock Off

Due to Mental Herb and Sturdy, Shuckle is pretty much guaranteed to get the Sticky Web up and can really help you against opposing Froslass. At the same time, if you can predict decently well, you can encore pokemon into a set up move and then switch to something else that can deal with them. Granted this does take a little bit more caution in dealing with certain set up sweepers, it is generally more effective at getting up Sticky Web.

I also genuinely don't understand why you chose to put Uxie on this team, as it is really kind of killing your momentum on a play style that is more reliant on hitting as hard as you can with powerful attackers while avoiding taking hits. To deal with your weakness to top threats like Azelf, Tornadus, as well as deter and capitalize on opposing users of defog, I'm going to propose you use Scarf Braviary, which will help you beat many of the pokemon that are causing you trouble (because they avoid sticky web and can't be out sped).

Braviary (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Superpower
- Return
- U-turn

If your opponent decides to use Defog, you will have the benefit of a +2 scarf Braviary to take down their team, it also decreases your team's reliance on Sticky Web by providing it with some real speed outside of the web.

Dropping Uxie would also cause me to recommend the use of Lum Berry on Sableye over focus sash, as this lets your team lure in and beat Sableye one of the most broken best pokemon in the tier right now. I also think this is better, because like EonX- did I will recommend dropping Hitmonchan for something else, and without Chan, focus sash will not really be useful (not that it really was with chan, cause most ghosts beat that set).

I actually don't think Ass vest eel is the way to go however, as right now, you have no way to spin block your own hazards, which is very important since you have ~2 web defendant mons, and Shuckle. I think that Mismagius is the way to go, as it has a solid speed stat to abuse, and can set up and sweep with Nasty Plot, or lure an enemy mon and finish it off with Destiny bond.

Mismagius @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball
- Dazzling Gleam
- Destiny Bond

Red Card + Toxic ---> Mental Herb + Encore

Uxie ---> Scarf Braviary

Focus Sash ---> Lum Berry

Hitmonchan ---> Mismagius

I know that this was kind of a lot to suggest, but I think these changes will make this team more successful. Hope I helped n_n.
