RU OLD GENS HUB BACK AGAIN ONCE AGAIN

RUOldGenHub.png

ty Clementine for the amazing banner

Welcome to the RU Old Gens Hub. Given that RU is a pretty young tier compared to others like UU and NU (RU was introduced on the 5th generation of Pokemon) this thread will contain resources for - Black and White RU. and ORAS RU, USM RU, AND NOW SS RU. This thread will serve as a place to discuss each of these respective generations. Different posts will contain viability rankings, sample teams, and lists of mechanics with major variations from the current generation. Feel free to discuss your favorite aspects of these metagames, underrated threats, teams you wanna share, if you wanna challenge somebody or anything that comes with it.

Basic forum etiquette rules apply.

Generation 8 specific changes/mechanics:
  • Snow Warning summoned hail instead of snow. Hail did 1/16 damage per turn to non-Ice types but did not give a defence boost.
  • Milk Drink, Recover, Rest, Roost, Shore Up, Slack Off, and Soft-Boiled has a max of 16 PP instead of 8

Knock Off Toxic Reuniclus + itemless Flygon BO
:Reuniclus: :Flygon: :Milotic: :Togekiss: :Rotom-Mow: :Registeel: by Mac3
Knock Off Toxic Reuniclus is great at wearing down the opposition, removing Leftovers from Toxic immune Pokemon like Registeel and crippling most else via Toxic. Nasty Plot Togekiss benefits from Reuniclus removing the Leftovers of Steel-types and provides a switch-in to the Pangoro that may take advantage of Reuniclus. Registeel checks Togekiss well and provides Stealth Rock. Milotic covers opposing setup sweepers like Reuniclus and Cosmic Power Metagross with Haze, and it covers Incineroar. This Milotic also has Mirror Coat, which could turn the tide against a special attacker like Heliolisk or Goodra. Milotic is a pretty good Knock Off sponge, helping Reuniclus keep its Rocky Helmet but the synergy goes both ways, as Reuniclus can take on Pokemon that like to Toxic Milotic such as Rhyperior and Metagross. Flygon provides a Ground-type, sweeper, and no item helps it switch into Incineroar a bit more; Incineroar can blow past Milotic if it's Jolly, so that's why there's another check. No item is also helpful against the occasional Alolan Marowak because you're immune to Poltergeist. Choice Scarf Mowtom provides speed control, entry hazard removal, something to pressure Water-types, and cripple the opposition with Trick.

Escavalier + Stakataka BO
:Escavalier: :Stakataka: :Crobat: :Celebi: :Milotic: :Flygon: by Yourwelcomethanku
This team is made around Escavalier + Stakataka to try and cover the downsides of using Escavalier as your Steel-type, and Stakataka's Toxic pressuring Water-type Escavalier checks like Milotic is also nice.. Stakataka covers Togekiss and Sigilyph well which Escavalier doesn't. Crobat is the Fighting switch-in, important for Heracross and Lucario, it also importantly provides entry hazard removal. Haze Milotic helps provide more assurance against setup sweepers like Psysho Shift Calm Mind Sigilyph and Cosmic Power Metagross, Ice Beam is slotted in here for Dragon Dance Flygon. Celebi counters Water-types and pairs nicely with Escavalier's Knock Off to weaken checks to Celebi like Incineroar. Flygon fills the last slot to try and compress Ground-type that answers Raikou + wallbreaker with a Life Orb Scale Shot set, and Roost helps more against Raikou.

SD Talonflame + Raikou BO
:talonflame::gastrodon::bronzong::raikou::bewear::dhelmise: by C0nfiden1 0yster
This team is built around the SD Talon and the Raikou as the two complement each other well. Talon beats the common grounds grasses of the tier and Kou beats the waters talon struggle to switch in to. The one ground that halts Talon's progress, rhyperior, gets bodied by Kou's scald. For a defensive backbone, Gastrodon and Bronzong are used as they cover common edgequake users such as Aerodactyl, Rhyperior, and Flygon which talon and kou struggle with. Bewear is used to beat punish Umbreon who can be annoying to break and also can switch into knock off's from Guzzlord and Golisopod. Dhelmise is the last option as it provides a sturdy Reuniclus check as well as swich into bulky waters, and with Lum Berry there is little concern about a potential Scald burn.

Metagross BO
:Metagross: :Milotic: :Dhelmise: :Drapion: :Flygon: :Togekiss: by Sneakyplanner
A pretty standard yet effective bulky offence team built around Metagross. The hazard setters and removers are Metagross and Dhelmise, both great bulky offensive threats that don't give up anything for the utility. Metagross is EVed to outspeed Seismotoad and common faster bulky Incineroar spreads. Toxic is probably better than bullet punch but the priority is useful in revenge killing fairies that think they are safe or getting the last bit of damage on a dragon dancer. Dhelmise excels as a spinner because it its ability to hit a lot of rockers super effectively and even hit Steelix and Registeel hard. I have swapped between physdef and spdef on the Dhelmise, but right now I like Spdef because it switches in well to toxtricity, which the team otherwise struggles to deal with. Drapion fills a bunch of tiny holes in the team and has been a surprise success for me. It is a dark type to keep you from instalosing to Polteageist, a decently bulky pokemon faster than Lucario to revenge kill it with earthquake when Flygon is damaged, a deceptively powerful physical sweeper, a grounded poison type to absorb the rare toxic spikes and a way to reliably beat passive psychic sweepers like Reuniclus, Sigilyph and Metagross. Togekiss is running heal bell because 4/6 of the team really fears a scald burn and the team doesn't really struggle to wear down steel types that would require flamethrower to beat, but flamethrower is still an option.

Pangoro BO
:Pangoro: :Crobat: :Dhelmise: :Vaporeon: :Raikou: :Steelix: by Metallica126
This team was built around CB Pangoro,it is an amazing wallbreaker, many team can't switch into it well. Raikou is a good partner of Pangoro, it can counter Togekiss and bring in Volt Switch against the opponents defensive core to bring Pangoro in safely. Steelix, Vapo, and Dhelm are the defense core; they can deal with Pokemon such as Flygon, Nidoqueen, Gardevior and so on. NP Crobat is a sweeper, and it can deal with vileplume.

Omastar Rain
:Politoed: :Omastar: :Seismitoad: :Klefki: :Toxicroak: :Sharpedo: by Mac3
Politoed is an obvious must for a rain team. Rain teams particularly thrive against fast frail offensive teams and those without a particularly good Water resist. Seismitoad is on most rain teams as the compression of Swift Swim sweeper, Ground-type, and Stealth Rock is great. Politoed is a kind of sucky momentum drain for rain teams, so having threats that aren't reliant on rain is helpful. Toxicroak and Sharpedo are strong offensive threats unreliant on rain. Sharpedo being a strong wallbreaker that benefits from rain but isn't reliant on it and Toxicroak still is able to take advantage of Water-types like Milotic. Omastar is the team's second Swift Swim sweeper and it's also somewhat less reliant on rain than other Swift Swim Pokemon due to Shell Smash; it can be very threatening outside of rain due to Shell Smash, which also lets it outspeed Choice Scarf Gardevoir in rain. Calm Mind Klefki is an odd setup sweeper but a strong choice here. Fire-type moves are weakened in rain and it's not entirely worse than the other Steel-type setup sweepers of the tier. It isn't weak to Pangoro and Sharpedo like Metagross is and not having to run IronPress leaves it less picky with its moveslots than an IronPress Registeel, which can't have all of Heavy Slam, Amnesia, and Rest. The Klefki also outpaces Adamant Pangoro and Bewear.

Generation 6 specific mechanics:
  • Burn damage deals 12% damage unlike in SM which has been reduced to 6%
  • Hidden Powers are IV dependant unlike in SM where you can have perfect IVs with any hidden power.
  • Crit chance ratio is of 6.25% unlike in SM where it has been reduced to around 4.16%
  • Paralysis status reduces speed by 75% unlike SM which has been decreased to 50%

S RANK:
The best of the best. Reserved for Pokemon who shape and define the RU metagame and are a clear-cut above the rest of the tier. These Pokemon are typically very powerful offensive threats that are difficult to prepare for and/or are phenomenal support and defensive threats that provide significant utility or defensive potential, respectively. Also the home of Pokemon who can easily perform multiple roles effectively, increasing their versatility and unpredictability. If the Pokemon in this rank have any flaws, those flaws are thoroughly mitigated by their substantial strengths.

A RANK:
Reserved for Pokemon who can sweep or wall significant portions of the metagame and can perform well against most play styles, but require some support or have some flaws that prevents them from doing this consistently. Supporting Pokemon in this rank may give opponents free turns or cannot create free turns easily themselves, but can still do their job most of the time. Pokemon in this rank are also known to define the play styles they fit on or are easy to add on any given team, while being able to carry their weight nearly every match.

B RANK:
Reserved for Pokemon who cannot sweep through or wall significant portions of the metagame, but can properly fulfill a given offensive/defensive niche. Support Pokemon in this category have flaws that prevent them from doing their job, are setup bait for dangerous sweepers, or often give too many free turns. Pokemon who are partially outperformed or struggle with taking on the Pokemon in the A or S Rank, but are otherwise dangerous in their own right and aren't difficult to fit on teams, may also fall into this category.

Generation 5 specific mechanics:
  • The Fairy typing doesn't exist. Pokemon like Clefable had a different typing prior to Gen 6.
  • Dark and Ghost are resisted by Steel instead of neutral.
  • Sleep turns reset to 0 when you switch out.
  • Hidden Power has a max base power of 70, and the base power depends on the Pokemon's IVs.
  • Gems boost moves of the corresponding type by 1.5x instead of 1.3x.
  • Grass-types and Pokemon with Overcoat can be affected by powder moves like Spore, Sleep Powder, and Stun Spore unless the Grass-types have an ability to avoid it.
  • Electric-types can be paralyzed by Thunder Wave unless they have an ability to avoid it.
  • Critical Hits deal double the damage instead of 1.5x from Gen 6 onwards.
  • Nature Power calls Earthquake instead of Tri Attack.
  • Several other moves had different base power, PP, or accuracy.

Thanks to ROA's community choice ORAS ladder I've gotten into building for ORAS. As of right now I am still unfamiliar with the meta but I'll be linking teams I've had the most success with. If anyone has any suggestions or rates hit me on Discord.

Hello, here are some teams i used in rupl for the Optical Illusionists and since we're out i feel like i want to share them since the meta can get stale since there aren't too many new builds and it's sad since ss ru is a fucking fun tier and i wanna encourage other people to build new teams as well, anyway here we go! (links to teams on the image)
I'm not planning to write too much because i'm bored and sick so yeah

Week 1 vs tlenit, we didn't have too much info going into this so i just wanted to build smth fun and solid(for the most part) so we rolled with this.
The team turned a bit weak to milotic as u can see from the replay but fuck it we ball i guess.
Balloon lucario grabs sd's on flygon and steelix and does lucario things and it's backed up by cm reuni.
gg to tlenit, it was a really fun game!

Week 2 vs Astro, s/o to mac3 for the suicune set cause it saved my ass there LOL
The idea that week was to use the nascar cune exactly for the mu i ended up playing versus, xurkitree and np togekiss is a big pain in the ass always and having cune outspeed those and snipe with a 2hko is a life saver.
Sylveon was the mvp of the game tho always keeping itself alive just barely.
gg to astro, great game to play!

Week 3 vs Attribute, super interesting game with a fucking risky team to use but it worked out.
I had a lot of fun building this and i bet it could turn out a lot better too cause it's admittedly fishy as fuck.
Hitmonlee was about to go hard but i realized that guzz had dragon tail so i just went for the kill(didn't even kill damn)
DD gon showing why it's broken and cloy with no ice move showing why it's such a bad pick LOL
s/o to my guy dnnp showing up with jellicent in tests to terrify the shit out of me LOL
gg to Attribute, had fun gaming vs you!

Screenshot_4.png

Week 4 vs my buddy dunoks, i got my ass handed to me which is sad cause after the game we talked and i realized that tyrantrum could have done it.
The team is quite fun and aggressive as i wanted it to be but i played this game way too passively(followed by a needless aggro play that lost me my xurkitree)
The idea is basically to use eject pack tyrantrum to open up holes early to midgame so that it can clean up late game by itself with a little help from np kiss.
had a lot of fun building this and i'm sad i didn't get the W.
gg to dunoks, ily bro here's to the next game!

Week 6 vs QWILY(the goat)
As u can see this is a different team than the one in the replay but the point of this post is not to showcase the teams i used alone as it's mainly a way for me to share solid teams for the community and this version of the team is clearly much better than the one i used in the replay.
So..wishiwashi is a weird mon to pick i know however it has some good traits in absorbing status and packs a good physical bulk while also keeping up momentum with a strong u-turn which adds a lot when u can slow u-turn out of virtually everything,(it showed a bit of its stuff in this game but a lot of things went wrong with this game sadly) I'm actually quite proud of this team cause it excels at playing at exactly the speed i enjoy playing the game.
gg QWILY, u owned me that game big time bro.

Screenshot_6.png
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen8ru-695553
Semis vs QWILY again.
ok this time i was done fucking around and i needed to do good prep to not get sat on by a sole gastrodon LOL
This is prolly one of my fav ru teams that i've made cause it has such a fun flow and some cool techs like fast taunt wisp incineroar, hurricane np bat and hex bronzong of all things.
The idea was simple, don't get owned by punny teams and fat cores and this team managed to do just that in tests.
While i did flop a bit mid game cause i was concerned with making the end game safer(something that just ended up making it even riskier) i'm happy with how i played this overall and in case anyone is curious hex zong helps the team pressure passive mons like knock off reuni, milo, gastro, and most importantly it does good damage to a sleeping demon gross that looks to sweep my ass and i didn't really need the last slot on zong i feel like so why not.
ggs QWILY, you're one of my favorite opponents to play vs and i always have fun playing you, gl in the finals bro!

And a couple of extras:

Screenshot_8.png
Never got to show that team since i decided to dead game vs airfare due to irl complications and my team already winning the week but i feel like it deserves a shout since it's a very strong offensive team that did extremely well in tests, shuca croak + this gon and double knock are very good at making progress right now and this team excels at giving them chances to show it off.
Screenshot_7.png
Something a bit more fun that i made to play vs leru but i had to get subbed out since i was moving during the time(but drifting got subbed in and won wooo)
This might look silly but it's good i swear LOL
The core of LO reuni and LO Aero backed by guzzlord's knock off spread is very potent and tough to manage especially with BO and i get to showcase a really cool mon in sandslash which while it doesn't go too hard in terms of longevity it's a good option as a spiker that also spins and spreads knock off vs important mons like crobat/registeel and bulky waters.

That's all from me for this season so i wanna say a huge thank you to Mac3 and eifo for drafting me to play this tier i had a fucking blast and you guys helped me in the builder a fuck ton, i appreciate you a lot.
Lastly shoutouts to dunoks, Master Chief, Beraldo, C0nfiden1 0yster, DNNP, Astro(can't find your name to save my life) and Drifting for helping me build, test and keep me sane during this whole tour, i appreciate you all very very much!
If anyone has questions regarding the teams and/or the spreads used, shoot me a dm on discord and i'll be happy to help out.

See yall in the next ru tour!

Hello everyone! Reviewing BluBirD's post (which is great) I've been inspired and would like to share the teams I've used this season at RUPL with Heavy Metal Highlights.

My adventure in BW RU started when I had to learn a bit of the metagame to build myself some teams to be able to compete in the RU Oldgens Cup. Surprisingly I reached the semifinals without having played the tier before and that helped me to get Floss to count on me in the RUPL.
But well, I'll stop the bulls*** and start with it.

I started from having built only three teams that I spamed all the cup plus some sample. They are these 3:

https://pokepast.es/750aa4a681aa5c03
https://pokepast.es/90d0d44b308cd6a6
https://pokepast.es/3c3f90c8665aa19b
1686488700817.png

Starting from this base, I saw that it was an unbalanced tier where if you put the hazards well in the early game, you had many options to win, so I built the teams based on that main idea.

Throughout the tour I expected to face recycled teams that I could surprise with my own constructions, so I focused more on building solid things than on what the opponent could bring me.

Week 1 vs Ninjadog

https://pokepast.es/68184a41d055a571
1686488757686.png

Based on the Eelektross team I built for the cup, I built this one changing some nuances.
I changed sigi for scarf rmow to be able to give rk and have more speed control that the first team lacked.
I also changed alomomola as a pivot for another phazer like drudd to force more changes in the rival team.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen5ru-685531

Week 2 vs Jisso

https://pokepast.es/1365a7f89bf80488
1686488861817.png

The idea of this team was to spam the paralysis and hit with pilo giving inputs with the volturn core of whis, uxie and mane (I made it scarf to beat rival scarf like rotom and durant and give them rk or surprise them directly).
The toxic in pilo is for the bulky waters that are the only ones that fit well against him in the tier.
The idea went wrong, but the team I think is viable.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen5ru-687245

Week 3 vs Avarice and Week 7 vs GoldCat

https://pokepast.es/620d6ffa66eda5bb
1686488948769.png

Having taken a risk with the build the previous week and coming off badly, I refocused on building something more solid this week.
The main idea of the team is centered around Bouff and his set + ev spread:

Bouffalant @ Leftovers
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 248 HP / 88 Def / 72 SpD / 100 Spe
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Return
- Earthquake
- Substitute

With it I wanted to be able to get free sub in mons like lix, slow, amoon, lanturn ... and to be able to boosted for free. Also with Soundprood, lix couldn't force me out of the field.
He has enough speed to beat lanturn in speed. I leave some calculations here:

- 0 SpA Amoonguss Sludge Bomb vs. 248 HP / 72 SpD Bouffalant: 82-97 (20.8 - 24.6%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 0 SpA Slowking Scald vs. 248 HP / 72 SpD Bouffalant: 84-99 (21.3 - 25.1%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 0 SpA Slowking Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Bouffalant: 82-97 (20.8 - 24.6%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 0 SpA Lanturn Scald vs. 248 HP / 72 SpD Bouffalant: 67-79 (17 - 20.1%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 0 Atk Steelix Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 88+ Def Bouffalant: 82-97 (20.8 - 24.6%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

Also, my teams were getting weak to moltres, so this week I decided to put a lanturn in the defensive core to check it out

vs Avarice https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen5ru-688536

vs GoldCat https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen5ru-694274

Against Avarice can't play Bouff, so being already ranked in week 7, I decided to bring back the team and it worked perfectly.

Week 4 vs Elfuseon

https://pokepast.es/9f7750637423f777
1686489153293.png

Wanting to continue the winning dynamic, I went back to the spinblock spiri + hazard stack.

I changed the offensive core of the team with a standard lo moltres + sub rmow with hp ice, which covered almost the entire meta with volt beam + leaf storm. The idea of sub is because it tends to wear scarf and forces quite a few changes.

I finished the core with a scarf kabu that gave me speed control and access to rapid spin.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen5ru-689789

Week 5 vs. Feanix

https://pokepast.es/456ab7a2626798a6
1686489204637.png

For this week I redesigned the eel team.
I swapped out the sigi for a kabutops scarf to gain speed control and access to rapid spin and swapped out the ev spread on garbodor to help me in mus vs. sceptile.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen5ru-691314

Bw moment in this battle :(

Week 6 vs. Hariyana

https://pokepast.es/ca1390112c20644b
1686489256697.png

For this week we were practically classified and the other team was eliminated, so they gave me an eifo team and I went with that, I did not prepare anything this week.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen5ru-692643

Semifinals vs LpZ

https://pokepast.es/3869e139c85b6e61
1686489303985.png

In the semifinals, seeing the trend of my teams, I was expecting a bit of a ho, so I decided to build something solid with a strong priority on cacturne + pilo.
I also saw that they used a lot of qwil, so cact had good mu against him.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen5ru-695646

Tremendous 6-0 I ate from uxie ... This is a failed team. A team as passive as this needs to always carry a phazer, so I hope my team will forgive me for this team decision right in the semis.

In short, I have enjoyed building in this tier throughout the tournament, I hope that these teams serve to give a new air to the metagame, since they are a bit out of the ordinary, in a tier where teams tend to be more offensive due to to how unbalanced the metagame is.

Thank everyone who has given me a hand building the teams Dj Breloominati♬ Feliburn Avendesora , and especially Real FV13 since without them I could not have done this good performance.

In addition to thanking Floss for signing me and the rest of the team for the good atmosphere that has been had during the season Attribute Chaitanya xXcrossbowXx Raptor .

If anyone has questions regarding the teams and/or the spreads used, shoot me a dm on discord and i'll be happy to help out.

See you in future tournaments of the community of RU!

And yes, it's been a boring Sunday for me :)

(I hope the translation is correct since the translator helped me to write a large part of the post)

Hello RU,now i want share some team i build in old gens ru in rupl.
This team is building in w3 to play with tlenit,i want use a standard bulky offense to deal with many situation so i build around this.
Pangoro is an amazing wallbreaker in this tier,it can use sd face regi, bronzong, umbreon and so on,raikou can help panda deal with flying like togekiss,i run shadow ball can deal with celebi and dhelm, plume is an annoying mon,it's effect spore can punish many physcial attacker and u-turn,it also can deal with some fat, this team i used growth to set up but infestation also can use, because it can trap regi to help garde/raikou sweep or trap weezing to help panda break.Garde is this tier's best speed control and weather answer,hw is a good move.I use psydef bronzong because this team is too weak lucario,it also can deal with dd/lo scale shot flygon.

This team is building in w6 to play with shaneghoul,i play oras ru is rarely,i think this tier have many steel/diancie+water+ground immunity+venusaur core, and focus punch emboar can break it and set the winning game, rotom run hp fly can deal with viri and jelli run dazzling gam can deal with scrafty.

if i have time i'll share some my opinion in ss ru.

In this tour,i'll thanks Oathkeeper EviGaro to pick me,I also thank Astrø test with me,your play is soild, hope see you next tour.I also thank 691 mentalsoft Chaos23333 DuGuo dragonitenb's help and encourage.

Enjoy:)
