Welcome to the inaugural edition of the RU room leaderboard tournament!
Starting tomorrow, August 1st, we will be keeping track of the leaderboard in the RU room for four months. The top 2 of every month will qualify for an invitational tournament to determine the best RU room tour player of the year!

Rules
All room tournaments created in the RU room will give points for the leaderboard. At the end of the month the two players with the highest point total will get an invitation for the end of the year tournament. The tournament runs for the months of August, September, October, and November. Then in December there will be a 8-man single elimination invitational tournament to decide the overall winner.
To accumulate points, all you have to do is play in the RU room tournaments. Per round you win in a room tour you receive 10 points. The final awards an additional 10 points.
The automated daily tour schedule is a follows (All times in GMT+0):
4AM
9AM
12PM
2PM
4PM
6PM
8PM
10PM
12AM

The three bolded times are the "official" daily tours that award DOUBLE points.
Besides these tournaments, room staff can create additional room tournaments at random times that can also award points for the leaderboard.

Prizes
Apart from the usual prizes for winning the monthly leaderboard, there will be additional prizes. As of right now they are still tbd, but will include the room prize winner rank and a special RU discord role. More on this soon!

Shoutouts to Distrib-PS and Rarelyme for their work on preparation and the Mr.Bellibot that keeps track of the standings.

For your service, Mr. Bellibot, I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Day after day, tour after tour, you remind us that we're all just here to have fun and play the game we loved as kids. Without fail I read your reminders and notifications of the tournaments my fellow community members and I can participate in, and I see the light. We're not here to win or lose, we're here to have fun.

This sounds very fun of course and I’m excited for it, but I’d like to suggest that we adjust the way points are earned for the leaderboard. I feel that the current way we are rewarded points in the room doesn’t incentivize people to play all throughout the month until the end.

I’ll give an example to illustrate. On the July leaderboard, some users had around 1000+ points, which is great accomplishment for them and they deserve credit for that. On the other hand, these users played upwards of 75+ tours this month. This created a large disparity between their points and basically everyone else who were only able to play 20ish room tours. If we continue this scoring method for this tour, I’m concerned that the ONLY thing that will matter for the standings in this tournament is essentially how willing you are to grind out a huge amount of tours, instead of the top 2 going to people who performed the best that month in room tours.

I think the previous leaderboard that the RU room used (wouldve been back in December-around march) would allow the board leader to continue to climb as high as they could in points, but rewards significantly fewer points to them than a lower ranked player would receive if they placed the same as the board leader. I remember instances where my points would decrease slightly if I was at the top of the leaderboard and placed outside the top 3 of a tour (slightly, it wasn’t a huge hit to your score, so you’d still be about where you were before).

This means that users can’t simply continue to accrue points just by entering tours, and required you to place in the top 3 in any given tour to continue earning points. (not a difficult benchmark regardless in a common 8 person tour).

A few months ago, Flabeauf and I were fighting for the top spot in the RU room for basically the entire month, because the scoring system didn’t allow either of us to get so much farther ahead than the other. I felt this made for a very competitive room tour board, and made it easier for players who started playing more tours in the middle of the month to catch up. When I started playing room tours in January for example, I think I got pretty close to the top within a few days when the month was close it’s end.

In July, it seemed like the competition was mathematically eliminated after a certain point very early on, because a few users had already played in so many tournaments. I think ideally we are rewarding the players who played the best in the RU room in each month, but our current scoreboard rewards players who play the most.

I’m not quite sure how the formula for points worked under the previous system, I referenced, so someone please correct me if I’ve misinterpreted it in some way.

Would love to here other’s thoughts on this who had experience playing room tours, going for the monthly tour winner title, or just people smarter than me who better understand how showdown rooms are set up.

the idea is awesome but there is one giant issue, the leaderboard of the last months were all very similar, which, while not really being a huge issue means that you often saw the same people at the top, especially me with my 10^52841 tours played each months, so if only the 2 people at the top each month gets to play the tour at the end, the invitational is gonna have like 3 different people, we should find a way to maybe let people who went top 3 or top 4 play in the invitational if the top 2 contained people who already got top 2 before

The first month is officially over. Congratulations to Heatranator and hjkhj for qualifying for the invitational!

Update to tour schedule and point distribution
For next month the tournament and point system will be slightly different. We are going back to the system used by Scrappie and that was previously used in the RU room. The formula for the new leaderboard is as follows:
score = 100 * (n²/(n²+30)) * p / n
p = points (shown on .top)
n = tours played
score = final leaderboard score (rounded up)

As this system does not support official tours and the amount of tours was a bit too much, the new daily schedule for tours is (All times in GMT +0):
4AM
12PM
4PM
8PM
10PM
12AM

Prizes
The prize for winning the invitational is now finalized and consists of:
  • room prize winner rank for 4 months
  • a special RU discord role for 1 year (until the end of the next iteration)
  • custom join phrase for the RU room for 1 month
  • a profile custom avatar made by Astrø

Best of luck to everyone competing coming month!

I was scared that it would greatly affect how many tours I can play when I saw that there was less tours (as a teen in AEST time) but I get the exact same as the key one for me are 10PM, 12AM and 4AM GMT+ which correlates to 8AM, 10AM and 2PM in AEST. sad I can't play on weekdays
