Sigilyph @ Flame Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Air Slash
- Psycho Shift
- Roost

Psycho Shift Sigilyph is an excellent spin on an already strong win condition. This set focuses on Sigilyph’s ability to force in Steel and Dark types such as Registeel or Umbreon, and to inflict burn on them. This allows Sigilyph to wear down the otherwise hard checks over the course of the game with burn damage. Max HP and Max Speed allow Sigilyph to take hits better while still maintaining it’s solid speed tier. Once the Dark/Steel type is burnt, Sigilyph has an easier time setting up Calm Minds to break or even win versus some teams. Although effective when facing bulkier teams, psycho Shift Sigilyph struggles with the prevalence of Knock Off, especially from Incineroar, which is immune to burn. Sigilyph appreciates partners which can remove items or status Dark and Steel types.

Here is a replay of Psycho Shift Sigilyph, slowly wearing down its checks throughout the course of the game in RU Invitational Round 2!

Psycho Shift Sigilyph is an excellent spin on an already strong win condition. This set focuses on Sigilyph’s ability to force in Steel- (AH)and Dark-types(AH) such as Registeel, Stakataka, and or Umbreon, and to inflict burn on them. This allows Sigilyph to wear down the otherwise hard checks over the course of the game with burn damage.(Weird way to word this when you legit just set up with CM and beat both of the Pokemon you mentioned. Psycho Shift lets you just beat a lot. You could then go on to say how Magic Guard protects Sigi from its own burn and how Magic Guard and Roost lets it outlast checks throughout a game. ) Max HP and Max Speed allow Sigilyph to take hits better while still maintaining it’s solid speed tier.(You could just say maximum HP helps it set up. Saying maximum speed retains its good speed tier and max HP lets you take hits better is kinda no brainer.) Once the Dark/Steel type is burnt, Sigilyph has an easier time setting up Calm Minds to break or even win versus some teams.(This should be said way earlier, you can read my earlier comments on that.) Although effective when facing bulkier teams,(I'm not sure a casual audience would really be able to draw the correlation between bulkier teams and Knock Off.) Psycho Shift Sigilyph struggles with the prevalence of Knock Off, especially from Incineroar, which is immune to burn.(You can mention some checks and knock absorbers like cobal and diancie.) Sigilyph appreciates partners which can remove items or status Dark and Steel types.(Like? And keep in mind you alr beat most Steel-types. You could cut this point entirely or provide good examples.)(It also struggles with Electric-types, you could mention that and answers to those.)
