The Introduction
I've always wanted to create a team with Pokemon I've liked using the most, while being successful, and I finally think I've made that. I started out with my offensive core. I was thinking of running volt-turn, but then I decided against it due to the fact that two special scarfers did not seem practical, also considering the fact that I lack allot of offensive physical attackers. I then realized I was weak to rock and I wanted a bit more coverage for my rotom considering its ice weakness. So I looked no further to Assault Vest Gallade. I then needed a defoger and resist to ghost. I knew Skuntank would work well on this team and I would not regret adding him to the party. Now for my defensive core. I decided to go with Rhyperior/Jellicent. They make a decent defensive core, although they both share a huge grass weakness I have that covered with three other pokemon.
The Team
KFC (Moltres) @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Roost
- Air Slash
- Fire Blast
I must say, although this set is walled by rock, I am in love with this. Sub-roost Moltres is just the huge threat this team needs, and with Gallade and Rotom-C around I will be able to take care of the common Rhyperior and the rare Golem easily. It can avoid status with sub and just ruin someone's entire day. Moltres has decent speed allowing it to sub on many things, and it can get off a couple of decent hits before it has to switch. The biggest threat to this set is Rhyperior. With Rock Blast it could straight up kill Moltres, *snap* just like that.
Synergy:
Rock (Gallade, Rhyperior)
Water (Rotom-C, Jellicent)
Electric (Rotom-C, Rhyperior)
Rotom-CUT (Rotom-Mow) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Trick
To be honest, before this I have never even used this Rotom form. Nor did I think this Rotom form was good at all. However, when used properly Rotom can truly shine. Pair this with Moltres and you're ready to go. I've considered running sub/Pain Split but considering Leaf Storm lowers your SpAtk that isn't a really good idea. This is fast enough to do decent damage to Braviary after rocks, assuming it's not already weakened it could have up to only 27% HP left, which pulls a thorn out of my side. With Trick I can make any wall/set-up sweeper that's giving me trouble just crumble. Like Cresselia.
Synergy:
Fire (Moltres, Rhyperior, Jellicent)
Ice (Jellicent)
Poison (Skuntank)
Bug (Moltres, Jellicent)
Scissorhands (Gallade) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Justified
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 216 HP / 40 Def
Adamant Nature
- Power-Up Punch
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Psycho Cut
Probably my favorite Assault Vest user in the tier, Gallade can boost AND regain HP while hitting hard and having some nice extra bulk. On top of that Gallade only has three weaknesses, and two of them aren't even commonly found on offensive Pokemon in the RU tier. All of that, while possibly deterring some dark type moves, specifically Knock Off. The lack of priority on this team is what really gets to me. I've been thinking of running Shadow Sneak on this but it's not very strong un-boosted. Tell me what you think about this set.
Synergy:
Ghost (Skuntank)
Flying (Rhyperior)
Pepé Le Pew (Skuntank) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 236 SDef / 80 Spd / 192 HP
Careful Nature
- Defog
- Sucker Punch
- Poison Jab
- Toxic
What I really needed on this team is a Defoger. Moltres can't properly function with rocks up. If rocks are up, that just means I have less health to sub and I have to roost more often. I might end up regretting putting this Pokemon on my team It can't do much despite it having Defog and Toxic. I use Toxic over taunt due to the lack of status besides Jellicent's W-o-W. Even though I do have priority with its Sucker Punch, I can't really invest in its attack since I want it to live for more than one turn in play. I've considered running Golbat here because it can do allot more than Skuntank can but then I'll have a huge Electric weakness on my team and I can't let that happen. I can't be switching in to my Rhyperior and Rotom every time a Heliolisk comes out or they'll just die way too quick.
Synergy:
Ground (Rotom-C, Moltres)
Horny (Rhyperior) @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 100 Atk / 244 SDef / 164 HP
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Rock Blast
- Earthquake
Rhyperior is probably one of the best SR setters in the tier, due to its bulk. Although it lacks on the specially defensive side it makes up for that in HP. It also has some decent attack which helps chip away at the opponent's health. I use Roar over Dragon Tail because it doesn't miss and if they want to go into Aromatisse for some reason, I can force it out. The only problem is that it doesn't work against soundproof Pokemon. Not a big deal, and also a rare occurrence, but it could sometime become a problem. Well, not so much a problem, but annoying to say the least. This is also my Moltres check. It's able to Rock Blast its subs while walling it, unless it's the scarf set with HP grass. And even then, I'll live with health to spare while Moltres either dies to Rock Blast or I get up SR.
Synergy:
Water (Jellicent, Rotom-C)
Ground (Rotom-C, Moltres)
Fighting (Moltres, Gallade, Jellicent)
Ice (Jellicent)
Steel (Jellicent, Moltres, Rotom-C)
Mr. Pringles (Jellicent) @ Leftovers
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 Def / 216 HP / 40 SDef
Bold
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Scald
- Taunt
Last, but certainly not least, it's my , mixed wall, Jellicent. This is the only bulky Pokemon on my team with a status move, so I have to use it sparingly. It's also the only one with recovery, which means this Pokemon essentially becomes the glue holding my team together and keeping it from falling apart. Rhyperior isn't invested in physical defense, and my other Pokemon such as Gallade don't appreciate physical hits, so W-o-W is probably the most important move on this set. I've thought about using Water Absorb, but I decided against it knowing that I already resist it and with Cursed Body I can lock scarfers into a struggle.
Synergy:
Grass (Rotom-C, Moltres)
Dark (Skuntank, Gallade)
Electric (Rotom-C, Rhyperior)
Threat List
To be quite honest with you, this thing is unstoppable. It can hit everything on my team for neutral damage, and one of two for even super effective damage. I have some decent switch-ins to deter Braviary from Brave Birding but then again it gets Super Power and Return. When you're fighting Pokemon like this it all just comes down to luck. I could hard counter this with regular Rotom but that would give me a huge Ghost weakness and I would lose synergy. However, 9 times out of 10 this will U-Turn. What makes this thing dangerous is its ability, Defiant. It can punish my Defog using it, and that's what scares me. I can't leave hazards up or else my Moltres can't function properly. Spikes are a problem too.
Now people say Cresselia is broken. In my opinion, it isn't. It's a threat you have to prepare for like any other in RU. This is true for every tier. I'm not here to start a fight about Cresselia though. This Pokemon is a pretty big threat to my team considering that once Rhyperior is gone, I am wide open for a sweep. Although Cresselia doesn't appreciate a Knock Off from Gallade it can just shake it off and Moonblast for days. Despite me being able to Roar Cresselia out it can still cripple my Rhyperior with Toxic and put a timer on it. This poses a problem as I have no Cleric on my team so I have to be very careful.
Where do I start with this? No matter what set this thing is, it gives me trouble. How so? Well first let's talk about its coverage. Giga Drain rapes my walls. Need I say more? More? Ok. Bug Buzz destroys my Rotom. What if it's Tinted lens? Bug Buzz destroys my Moltres AND Jellicent. Not to mention Air Slashing my Rhyperior and Gallade to death. My Skuntank is already frail to begin with, so that's won't be living long to begin with. My best weapon against this is hazards and status. Either W-o-W or Toxic will take care of this and cripple it for the rest of the game, that is, unless they manage to remove hazards and Heal Bell/Aromatherapy/Wish pass. Luckily I have a solution for that. Meet Moltres. Clerics and spinners/defoggers in this tier are horridly inoffensive so I can threaten Yanmega with Air Slash and deter it from switching in. Want to status me? Sorry, I have substitute. What makes Yanmega so dangerous is that it can run a plethora of sets such as WP, scarf Tinted Lens, specs Tinted Lens, LO Tinted Lens, specs Speed Boost, and LO protect Speed Boost. It's just so versatile it's scary.
Let me know what you think of my team. Be sure to leave some ideas as to what I could do to better my team. After all, this is RMT. If you don't have to, please don't remove Gallade. It's the one Pokemon that I really want to use and be successful. Change all the other Pokemon if you have to. Anything else I overlooked? Be sure to leave it in the comments down below. I hope this RMT post is more bearable than my last.
This team is still under testing and I'll add my changes as I go on.
