Introduction

This is part one of my collab with TheHoodedGamer! I brought up the idea of building a team around Sableye, and we went from there. The second part of the team can be found here.

The Team

sableye.gif

Sableye @ Mental Herb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 72 Def / 184 SpD
Impish Nature
- Fake Out
- Protect
- Will-O-Wisp
- Quash
I decided to make a team that is built around Sableye because I've seen how useful yet unexpected it can be. Full HP investment helps with Sableye’s lack of bulk. 184 Special Defense EVs allow him to live Mega Charizard Y's sun-boosted Heat Wave and Ludicolo's rain-boosted Hydro Pump. With 72 Defense EVs and an Impish nature, Sableye will live Bisharp's Life Orb-boosted Knock Off. Fake Out is an obvious choice for leading with. Will-O-Wisp helps deal with physical attackers and slowly chips away at bulkier opponents. Quash is useful for dealing with other Tailwind/ Trick Room teams or if Tailwind is not set up on my side.

gardevoir-mega.gif

Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 108 HP / 124 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Psychic
- Trick Room
- Protect
Gardevoir is the Mega of this team because I thought it would work well with Sableye, and is a good Trick Room setter. 252 Special Attack EVs and a Modest nature maximize M-Gardevoir’s damage output. 20 Speed EVs outspeed Bisharp and OHKO it with Hyper Voice. 108 HP and 4 Special Defense EVs let her live a Modest Gengar’s Sludge Bomb or Shadow Ball. The rest are poured into Defense to increase physical bulk.

amoonguss.gif

Amoonguss @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 188 HP / 156 Def / 164 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
– Rage Powder
– Spore
– Giga Drain
– Protect
Amoonguss works great in Trick Room. It also helps in Rain if Gardevoir can't set up. With Spore it can put opponents to sleep, or Rage Powder to redirect hits which helps Gardevoir set up Trick Room. Regenerate is a useful ability because it allows Amoonguss to simply switch out to recover a decent amount of HP. Along with Giga Drain as a decent STAB move that provides HP recovery, Amoonguss is annoying to knock out.

Introduction

Hey, this is TheHoodedGamer with my very first collab RMT with hexmarie and the second half of the team! I don't really like to drag out intros so let's just get right into it, shall we?

The Rest of the Team:

Landorus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 148 HP / 148 Atk / 12 Def / 12 SpD / 188 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Knock Off
- U-turn
Now I know what you might be thinking, "Oh a Landorus-Therian, so original," but it works. It was chosen because it checked the likes of opposing Heatran and Talonflames. It's role is to act as a bulky attacker. Assault Vest was chosen because of Landorus-Therian's lackluster 80 Base Special Defense. Earthquake and Rock Slide are standard moves used on Landorus with the former of which being one of its only viable STAB moves. Knock Off is used over Superpower because we're not really fond of Defense and Attack Stat Drops and we like the utility of getting rid of Items as well as having a good Dark-type attack overall. U-turn is used for the final slot as it allows Landorus to have a decently strong Bug-type move as well as being able to Intimidate-Spam without having to just switch. The EV Spread is from this guy and allows Landorus to survive a +1 252 Adamant Sucker Punch from a Bisharp and OHKO it back with Earthquake, survive 2 Spread Hyper Voices from 252 Special Attack Modest Mega Gardevoir, as well as Outspeed 252 Speed Jolly Breloom by 1 point.

Kyogre @ Blue Orb
Ability: Drizzle
Level: 50
EVs: 236 HP / 60 Def / 212 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spe / 0 Atk
- Origin Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Thunder
- Protect
This slot used to be Swampert but Kyogre was chosen because Promal Kyogre does everything Swampert did, better. It's role is to be a Primal as well as being the Primal Weather on the team. Blue Orb is obviously used to make Kyogre revert back to it's Primal Forme. Origin Pulse was an obvious choice for Kyogre's STAB Attack because it is a Spread Water-Type move with Base 110 Power. Ice Beam is used as a primary source of coverage as it does some decent damage to Primal Groudon if Kyogre can't use Origin Pulse. Thunder is mainly used to hit opposing Primal Kyogres. Protect is an obvious choice as this is VGC; we need Protect to survive. 0 Attack IVs allows it to have the smallest amount of Attack possible. 0 Speed IVs and a Quiet Nature allows Primal Kyogre to be the fastest under Trick Room as possible. 236 HP and 60 Defense EVs allows it to survive a 252 Atk Life Orb Dragon Ascent from a Mega Rayquaza, while pouring the rest of the EVs into Special Attack.

Heatran @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
Level: 50
EVs: 180 HP / 252 SpA / 76 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heat Wave
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon
- Protect
Heatran's role is to act as a fairy check and was chosen for its ability to check Fire types as well as a strong Special Attacker. Heat Wave is a great STAB spread move, and Earth Power is Heatran's best coverage option. Flash Cannon is used due to the abundance of Fairy-types that Heatran deals with nicely. Protect prevents Heatran from being double targeted and allows it to guard itself while a teammate deals with a threat to Heatran. The given Speed EVs allow Heatran to outspeed uninvested Rotom-A. Maximum investment in Special Attack ensures that Heatran can dish out powerful hits, and the leftover EVs go in HP.

Conclusion

Well that's the team! I hope you enjoyed and we would enjoy any feedback.

R.I.P Old Members

Whimsicott @ Focus Sash
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Def / 224 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tailwind
- Taunt
- Helping Hand
- Protect
Whimsicott’s job is to set up Tailwind. The given EV spread allows it to outspeed Thundurus’ Taunt to Taunt it first. It also helps Sableye deal with other Taunt/ Prankster users. The remaining EVs are dumped into Defense for more bulk. I chose to run Helping Hand over Giga Drain because it doesn’t have any Special Attack investments along with holding a Focus Sash. It is also useful for M-Gardevoir and if Sableye needs to deal more damage

Swampert @ Expert Belt
Ability: Torrent
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Wide Guard
- Ice Punch
Now this was a weird slot for us. We decided that we needed another physical attacker because we noticed that our team was looking too Specially-oriented. So we decided, why not use an Expert Belt PHYSICAL Swampert. His role is utilize Wide Guard as well as being another Physical Attacker on the team. Waterfall is a strong Water-type STAB move that can get random flinches from time to time. Earthquake is a strong Ground-type STAB with perfect accuracy. Wide Guard is to prevent Spread moves from effecting the team, some examples include: Opposing Earthquakes, Landorus' Earthquakes, Heat Waves, Hyper Voices, Surf, and other Spread moves. Ice Punch is used as a coverage move to get rid of the likes of oppoising Landorus-Therians as well as Mega Salamence but gets OHKOs on other Pokemon. 252 Attack and 252 Speed Evs with a Adamant Nature allows Swampert to hit as hard as possible as fast as possible.

Yo, so pretty nice team there. It's really similar to the team that Serapis won Regionals with haha. Unfortunately with the new rules announced, I'm going to have to change some stuff around so that this team can function in the new meta. For starters, I definitely recommend using Trick Room on Mega Gardevoir over Shadow Ball. Shadow Ball legitimately only has one target, which is Aegislash. Even then it isn't the best because it risks activating its Weakness Policy and OHKOing Gardevoir. Trick Room also helps immensely against Mega Rayquaza. Your team isn't very fast to begin with so using a Semi-Room strategy will definitely benefit you more. Also this is a minor nitpick, but I suggest changing Gardevoir's ability to Trace. Telepathy is cool and all but your only Earthquake user is Landorus-T (spoilers: Swampert will be changed), so it isn't really a good justification to use Telepathy. Trace can let you copy useful abilities like Intimidate.

Now as for bigger changes, Whimsicott isn't helping your team very much to be honest. It can set Tailwind yeah, but going for Trick Room will benefit you a lot more, so I suggest replacing Whimsicott with Amoonguss. Amoonguss is amazing in Trick Room, as it can take advantage of its low Speed and put your opponent to Sleep. Not to mention, Amoonguss helps immensely with your Primal Kyogre matchup. Amoonguss also helps with Rain in case you can't get Trick Room up. With Primal Groudon being released, I don't see Rain, other than Primal Kyogre, being too popular but you can never be too careful. I recommend using Eekthegeek's spread of 188 HP / 156 Def / 164 SpD with a Sassy Nature.

  • 252 SpA Aerilate Mega Salamence Hyper Voice vs. 188 HP / 164+ SpD Amoonguss: 128-152 (60 – 71.3%) — 90.6% chance to 2HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
  • 252 SpA Mega Gardevoir Psyshock vs. 188 HP / 156 Def Amoonguss: 180-212 (84.5 – 99.5%) — guaranteed 2HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery (Psychic does 92% max)
  • 252+ Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Double-Edge vs. 188 HP / 156 Def Amoonguss: 180-214 (84.5 – 100.4%) — guaranteed 2HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
  • 252+ SpA Primal Kyogre Ice Beam vs. 188 HP / 164+ SpD Amoonguss: 130-154 (61 - 72.3%) -- 95.7% chance to 2HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery

Finally, I suggest replacing Swampert with Primal Kyogre. Swampert isn't really benefiting your team much to be honest. Primal Kyogre did everything that Swampert did while providing more. Kyogre hits harder and can also threaten out bulky Water-types with Thunder. The only thing it lacks is Wide Guard coverage, which your team isn't too needing of. With the release of these Ubers, it's pretty hard to compete without running one of your own. That's not the main reason I suggest Kyogre over Swampert though. Your team is REALLY weak to Primal Groudon. Landorus-T can hit it super effectively but Earthquake is only a 3HKO, which isn't very reliable to take it out. Primal Kyogre, however, almost always forces out Primal Groudon. Not to mention, it already fits pretty well on your team since Gardevoir can take out Grass-types, namely Amoonguss and Mega Venusaur, while Heatran threatens out Ferrothorn.

The meta is still developing right now, so sorry that I couldn't give you a better rate. Hope I helped man and good luck with the team, sorry for taking so long to respond to this haha! :]
