Sacred Rain
A rain team by Motagua
Hey smogon, as some people might already now, I am back to pokemon activity after semestrals in college and some relaxing vacations I am still enjoying
. After realizing BW2 has been released, I decided to give it a try. So far, its an overpowered metagame with huge threats like Techniloom, The Genie Sacred Beast Trio, Thick Fat Mamoswine, Keldeo, etc, who are dominating this metagame. Their release also made Rain to have a huge jump in their usage because these pokemons benefit greatly in Rain than any other weathers.
After testing most of the new forms, I decided to actually use an anti-metagame Rain team that would be able to deal with most of the new threats introduced. While I was testing the current changes on PO server (I got another team running on Pokemon Showdown), I ran down ladder and so far I peaked #6 at the moment in one day lol. Imagine it, you are testing a team and it results to end up peaking high on ladder xD.
This RMT´s theme is about the Mayan religion. The Maya is a Mesoamerican civilization, noted for the only known fully developed written language of the pre-Columbian Americas, as well as for its art, architecture, mathematical and astronomical systems. The mayans were a politeist society and believed in many deitys or gods that can be relationed to the pokemon´s function. In Honduras I had the privilege to visit the Ruins of Copans where I was able to see their amazing calendars, temples, ball courts and altars. I highly recommend to visit the Ruins of Copan or any other city that has connections with the Mayans like Yucatán, Palenque, Tikal, Chalchuapa and any other. It is an experience you will never forget.
Teambuilding Process
Here is a brief history on how this team evolved since its first version as a standard BW1 team.
First version of the team who focused instead on abusing the new threats. This team included Scarf Politoed, Defensive Landorus-T, Expert Belt Thundurus-T, SD Virizion, standard Tentacruel & CB Scizor. Good team from the start, but Tornadus shredded me into pieces.
Next version was a bit more offensively paced with Techniloom for priority, Scarf Jirachi for Dragons and Starmie to offer more power. Tornadus was less of a headache, however Jirachi was my only counter and I needed another check.
The team changed greatly with the addition of Sash Mamoswine to deal better with Therian formes, however Jirachi + Thundurus-T was a very weak Volt-Turn core and it couldn´t force a lot of switches. Also, Volcarona was a huge bitch as after a QD, it cleaned my team where Mamoswine was the only one who could take him in Rain thanks to Thick Fat.
The renewed version of the Rain team. Although I gave up Volt-Turn with the change of using Sub CM Jirachi to abuse better Rain and DD Dragonite to deal with Sun, the team showed great results. This team also controls 3 priority moves making it almost impossible for the opponent to run a full sweep. What makes it even better is that it doesn´t depends on Rain itself to pull out a sweep.
Thanks for your positive rates and comments, I present you the new version of the team. Gyarados replaced Dragonite as the main sweeper and proved to be a powerful threat being able to ravage most teams, while the team had some slight changes in sets. Water Gem Politoed to catch off-guard most foes and Choice Scarf Starmie to revenge kill and cripple walls. Overall this team had an incredible progress and while I was testing changes on PO server, it peaked #6.
Past Team Members
You will find some of my creative previous sets the past team members used before, on the team. You might find as a useful reference some of them.
Kukulkán (Thundurus-T) (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 84 Atk / 172 SAtk / 252 Spd
[30 Atk/30 Def]
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Grass Knot
- Volt Switch
- Superpower
- Hidden Power [Ice]
This set was the one I used when I found myself abusing the new forms. Although he is slower than his Genie form, he has a shitload more Sp.Atk than his Genie form and you can even invest part of it without losing important OHKOs or 2HKOs. The best part of this set is that it can mimic a Choice set and fool the oponent. Once he realized, it will be pretty much late as Thundurus-T might took by surprise an important pokemon. Volt Switch is used to gain momentum, Grass Knot for Gastrodon and other heavy Ground-types that think they can simply block Volt Switch without punishment, HP Ice for Dragons mostly, and Superpower for the pink blobs. Max Speed is used to speed-tie non-scarfed Genie Landorus, 172 Sp.Atk to still retain the OHKOs he would obtain thanks to the Expert Belt boost, and 84 Atk EVs allows him to 2HKO Blissey after SR with Superpower.
Balam (Landorus-T) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 124 Def / 132 Spd
Lax Nature (+Def, -SDef)
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Although most people started to abuse again Choice versions of this form, being in superior use on other weathers, I decided to use a defensive pivot that could take hits like a boss and even keep offensive pace. Landorus-T achieves that thanks to his great stats and great movepool. With 252 HP, 124 Def and Intimidate factored in, Terrakion can only do a max of 43% meaning that even after SR, he is not 2HKO´d by a Choice Banded Stone Edge. With this and many other reasons, Landorus was an excellent offensive tank to use making him a reliable user of SR. U-turn is used to keep momentum and HP Ice is used to OHKO Gliscor and Dragonite after SR.

Chaac (Politoed)
God of Rain

(M) @ Water Gem
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SAtk / 216 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Ice Beam: Useful to revenge kill Dragons, and hits Grass types like Breloom, Celebi, and Amoonguss for good damage.
- Focus Blast: Excellent coverage move having a great chance to 2HKO Ferrothorn.
- Hydro Pump: The real weapon being able to hit like a truck. With the boost of the Water Gem and Drizzle, it has the same, exact, and devastating power a Specs Hydro Pump would do.
- Perish Song: Stops coldly any baton pass chain and useful to stop any stat boosts in a desperate situation.
Analysis
When I was testing most suggestions, I realized I couldn´t afford Politoed to be Choiced. Although Leftovers might sound good, Water Gem was able to catch so many oponents off-guard. Usually when you spam coverage moves, people think you are choiced but once their weather starter or any other pokemon gets hit by a Water Gem boosted Hydro Pump, they get ravaged for a huge amount of damage.

Xaman Ek (Jirachi)
God of the North Star

@ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 80 SAtk / 176 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunder: Excellent coverage move that hits super-effectively opposing Water and Flying types while having an excellent 60% paralysis chance.
- Calm Mind: Raising Jirachi´s Sp.Atk and Sp.Def to high levels, soon or later, Jirachi will become an almost impossible sweeper to deal with.
- Substitute: Thanks to his 101 HP Substitutes, moves like Night Shade or Seismic Toss are unable to break it with only one hit, while it protects Jirachi from annoying status problems & moves.
- Flash Cannon*: Most people when using a CM Jirachi, do not even consider this excellent STAB as an option. Most Rain teams do not fare well against Hail teams because Abomasnow has a type advantage and most non-Water rain abusers are vulnerable to stuff like Ice Shards. With his STAB Flash Cannon a +1 Jirachi is able to OHKO Mamoswine, Abomasnow and Kyurem (after SR), while being able to dent Tyranitar down and win more easily the weather war.

Analysis
Jirachi is one of the best sweepers to use in Rain because it becomes a really annoying pokemon that can cripple most of its common switch-ins, defeat most unprepared stall teams and has the bulk & resistances to pull out several Calm Minds. 176 Speed EVs are used to outspeed positive base 90s, 252 HP EVs to make 101 HP Substitutes, and finally, 80 Sp.Atk to overall increase the damage input.

Kukulkán (Gyarados)*
Serpent God of Wind

(M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 56 HP / 240 Atk / 212 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bounce: Gyarados´ first STAB move providing an excellent base power and being able to hit super-effectively pesky Grass types like Breloom, Celebi and Virizion.
- Waterfall: The most devastating move in the pokemon´s arsenal. An excellent STAB move, powered back by rain, and boosted further by Dragon Dances, it becomes an almost unstoppable force to be dealth with. To add more, it has a 20% chance of flinching the oponent where you might be lucky to 2HKO stuff like Skarmory.
- Substitute: Allows Gyarados to shield himself from status problems and avoid some damage. Excellent to scout most Volt-Turn chains and it assures set-up.
- Dragon Dance: Boosting its excellent Attack and decent Speed, it allows Gyarados to rampage on the foe´s team.

Analysis
Gyarados is one of the most powerful Rain abusers ever and it is so understimated that it can easily clean most teams that are unprepared to face him. Bounce + Waterfall provide excellent coverage while his bulk allows him to pull out numerous Dragon Dances in conjunction with Substitute. 56 HP EVs increase his overall bulk, 212 Speed EVs are used to outspeed Tornadus-T after one Dragon Dance, while the rest is dumped in Attack who still retains most of its huge raw power. I decided to use Intimidate because it supports excellently the team defensively in some situations and gives more chances to set-up.

Nal (Breloom)
God of Fertility and Agriculture

(M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Technician
EVs: 240 HP / 100 Atk / 160 SDef / 8 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Spore: This move gives my team a huge advantage as it puts an opposing pokemon to sleep.
- Bullet Seed: This thing wrecks some shit like a truck. Even with only 2 hits, it already has almost the same base power as Seed Bomb. After a Swords Dance, Bullet Seed pretty much OHKOs any Water-type on its way and if you find yourself lucky on the hits, it obtains noticeable OHKOs like Reuniclus (5 hits), Gyarados (3 hits after SR) and others.
- Mach Punch: Technician was a blessing for Breloom as it obtained now a better way to abuse priority. This move is just as powerful as Scizor´s Bullet Punch but with a much better typing to abuse. Breloom also becomes now another Terrakion check thanks to it.
- Swords Dance: After a single Swords Dance, unless you have a quad resistance, you are going down bro.
Analysis
Technician was a real blessing for Breloom as it gave him two powerful STABs to work-out the foe; one of them being a priority move. After a Swords Dance boost, Breloom pretty much OHKOs most stuff and if Bullet Seed hits for more than 2 turns, stuff like Thundurus-T, Reuniclus and others will also end up dying. 240 HP EVs are used to give Breloom an extra leftovers number, 100 Atk EVs to still OHKO standard Heatran after a Swords Dance boost, 160 Sp.Def to still avoid being OHKO´d by Ice Beams or 2HKO´d by Hidden Power and the last 8 Speed EVs are dumped in Speed to bypass Defensive Politoed and avoid him to Scald first.
Buluc Chabta (Mamoswine)
God of the Violent Death

(M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature* (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Ice Shard: Mamoswine´s STAB priority move. With this move, he is able to check the new threats introduced in this metagame like the Therian Beasts while still being an excellent Dragon murderer.
- Earthquake: Second STAB move that quakes to death any Fire, Steel or Rock type that is not flying or has an Air Balloon.
- Superpower: Useful to hit the pokemons that resist Mamoswine´s dual STAB combination like Rotom-W or Bronzong and pokemon who carry an Air Balloon like Heatran.
- Stealth Rock: Standard layers to cripple MS Dragonite, Volcarona, Thundurus-T, Ninetales, Tornadus-T, and any other pokemon vulnerable to it, on the switch-in.
Analysis
Although Thick Fat Mamoswine was already released previously on BW1, the new metagame finally gave him the moves to rampage freely. This guy is currently the anti-metagame pokemon as it checks an insane quantity of new & old threats like the Theriam forms, most Steel types, and Dragons. Thick Fat makes it even better as it has now a resistance to Ice moves and a neutrality to Fire-type moves (Now a resistance in Rain); for example, a Max Sp.Atk Timid Heatran deals 41.55% - 49.03% with Fire Blast under Rain. Max Attack is used to dish out the most possible damage, while Max Speed with a Jolly nature is used to outspeed Heatran, Toxicroak and Lucario, being able to OHKO these threats first with the correct move.

Ixchel (Starmie)*
Goddess of the Moon

@ Choice Scarf
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf: Reliable STAB move being able to OHKO or 2HKO anything that is not a resistant. Although it does not packs the power a Hydro Pump or a LO boosted Surf would do, Starmie can´t afford a miss due to his frailty.
- Trick: A very excellent move for Starmie as it allows to cripple most of her common switch-ins like Ferrothorn, Gastrodon, Virizion and others.
- Thunder*: Excellent and powerful coverage move being able to hit Gyarados even when Bouncing! Hits super-effectively opposing Water and Flying types.
- Thunder*: Excellent and powerful coverage move being able to hit Gyarados even when Bouncing! Hits super-effectively opposing Water and Flying types.
- Rapid Spin: Removes entry hazards that would cripple the other team members, giving my pokemons more oportunities to switch-in. Preserves Dragonite´s Multiscale
Analysis
Starmie is and it will always be the best Rapid Spinner on this gen thanks to her high Sp.Atk and stellar Speed. Although one might think this set might not work because of Pursuit users like Tyranitar or Scizor, if you play intelligently, Starmie won´t fail you. With a Choice Scarf Starmie revenge kills an insane quantity of pokemon that do not expect it like Landorus, Terrakion, Tornadus-T, Thundurus-T, Volcarona (rain), Gyarados and once the Scarf is not necesary, Tricking it will cripple walls like Blissey, Gastrodon, Ferrothorn and others.
