Salajask v2.1

I've set my first string team, so I decided to come up with something unorthodox that I could use as play-for-fun when I don't feel all that competitive.
I've been playing this on Shoddy for quite some time, and have had nice results. I feel the general idea has potential, but it lacks polish. So please help me make it shine.
I seemeed to have problems with some very specific threats, which is what this new version seeks to correct.

An important note: Please do not think of this team as revolving around Ninjask and Mence, for it does not. They are a very important part, and play significant roles in setting the stage, but it's not all about them.

dpmfa291.png

Ninjask @ Focus Sash
Jolly - Speed Boost
252 Spe/252 Atk

Swords Dance
Baton Pass
X-Scissor
Protect

The basic premise here is to SD as the Sash is broken and then BP a +2 Atk/+1 Speed to one his comrades, usually Mence.
X-Scissor makes him a very reliable check against the likes of Cresselia and Celebi, especially if I get an SD off.
Protect not only helps against Fake Out leads, it also helps bring Ninjask back mid-game if his Sash has already been broken, protect for one turn, and then pass the speed boost.
The fact that all of my team can make use of speed boosts is also great, and everyone except for Vaporeon can also benefit from SD.

Spr_4d_373.png

Salamence @ Lum Berry/Life Orb
Naughty - Intimidate
232 Atk/24 Sp.Atck/252 Speed

Dragon Claw
Fire Blast
Earthquake
Aqua Tail/Draco Meteor/Stone Edge

No Outrage? STAB Dragon Claw fired off 800 attack is already pretty powerful. The fact that his objective is to blast the opponent's game open makes Outrage very unnapealing, because literally every team has a Steel type or priority Ice Shard who can come in after I've taken down the first poke and knock Mence senseless, all because he's locked into Outrage.
Earthquake is pretty standard and makes great pairing with DC, and Fire Blast takes down the ever-present Skarmory.
The fourth move has been a toughie.
Aqua Tail and Stone Edge are more just for the hell of it, and provide great damage against some potent threats. I have been running Aqua Tail thus far because of Edge's accuracy.
Draco Meteor is appealing for an all-around blow-out when I have no clue what to do, but DC usually fills that niche. It also hampers FB, and it's not very pretty when fired off only 262 SpAtk.
Lum Berry/LifeOrb Lum Berry was actually an accident leftover from when I took out Outrage, and ended up being very helpful. It help volumes against Blisseys and Dusknoirs, and goes a great way to screwing Breloom, who otherwise can be a serious pain to this team.

dpmfa134.png

Vaporeon - Leftovers
Bold - Water Absorb
188 HP / 252 Def / 68 SpAtk

Surf
Ice Beam
Hidden Power Electric
Toxic/Yawn

I'd rather have Yawn over Toxic, but the Vappy I have in my DS so far doesn't have Yawn. If you have/know a good HP Elec Yawn Vappy let me know/CMT for it.
I love this little thing. It works great in any team, and has so far done a lot for me, especially when sponging Surfs aimed at Infernape. This thing demolishes Gyarados, who sometimes gives me trouble.
He can also work wonders with Ninjask's Speed Boosts, since he can come in on basically anything.

dpmfa232.png

Donphan @ Leftovers
Impish - Sturdy
252 HP/6 Atk/252 Def

Rapid Spin
Earthquake
Ice Shard
Stealth Rock/Roar

With Sally being SR weak and Ninjask taking an absurd 50% from it, I couldn't go without a spinner. Starmie and Tenta both leave my team with two waters, and Forry isn't as helpful in the offesive department.
If the Rocks are set up on Ninjask, I can BP to this guy the speed boosts, which not only makes taking out SR safer, also offers some good attacking power, and helps when Roaring.
Since Vappy, Nape, Salamence and Electivire are all adept at causing switches, SR is usually very helpful, but then I get screwed by defensive stat-uppers, like CurseLax.

dpmfa392.png

Infernape - Life Orb
Naive - Blaze
64 Atk/252 SpA/192 Spe

Fire Blast
HP Ice
Grass Knot
Close Combat

Yet another one who can benefit from Ninjask's speed boosts.
Infernape provides a great check against one of this team biggest enemies, Swampert. If the Toad does not invest in SpDef, Grass Knot will OHKO. But if it does however, it may not, and then Nape will die to EQuake or Waterfall.
However, because Nape can't switch-in to Swampert, Swampert's coming in usually means a lot of trouble for me, which usually results in the current poke being KOed.
He also helps a lot against another great threat to this team, which is Zapdos, and provides a decent option to kill off Breloom. But once again, because of Spore, it's very hard for Nape to switch-in.

dpmfa466.png

Electivire @ Expert Belt
Adamant - Motor Drive
252 Attack/252 Speed

Earthquake
Cross Chop
Ice Punch
T-Punch

This is the standard Electivire, and it although it can't punch holes as deep as Scizor can, it can punch holes in more things, which is very useful for keeping the flow of the game.
He also makes a great back-up counter to Zapdos should Infernape be brought down, especially if I can can BP a speed boost or lure a T-Bolt with Vappy (the latter usually relies on the opponent not having seen Vire, though)

Thanks a lot!

This team seems mostly based for pre-Platinum battleing. I would nix both
Vappy and Donphan, while adding Starmie and Jirachi (or some steel).

Starmie could run BoltBeam, Recover and Rapid Spin; BoltBeam, Surf, Rapid Spin; Surf, Thunderbolt, Rapid Spin, Recover, or whatever you want. Starmies natural ability to counter Mence, Gyara, and Ape all at once without speed boosts comes in great handy though.

Then I would add a supporting Jirachi or Gross in place of Vappy, if you're going to add starmie. These can set up SR, take Outrages better than anyone else on your team, and other things as well. I would look at their two analysis and see which set you like.

This is a good team, you've got there. Well to the point. However, Lead Mamo and Donphan may give Jask some problems, so, like martinky said,
replace Vappy for Starmie,

As for Donphan, here's an alternate option: Metagross can also help you sweep during late-game, if possible, and it's can handle Scizor. So try it for a while.

Is there such a thing as lead Phan? I'd never run into Mamo until yesterday, and short of revenge killing with Nape there wasn't much I could do except turn to Starmie, which wasn't all that reliable, and took heavy damage. Any suggestions on this?

Gross is still under testing, but has been working nicely

Yes, a lot of people choose to lead with Donphan;
It gets stealth rock up and uses Ice shard for Aerodactyl and such, besides owning dragons with it.
Some also have roar.

Although I have to admit I don't see mamoswine as a lead very often, if ever. However, both Donphan and Mamo use Eq and ice shard and also set of stealth rock.

To be honest I wouldn't worry too much about those pokes if you have something to switch into them.

I've never run into any lead Phan, although I can see some potential to it. And that Mamo I commented on wasn't lead, anyways.

I've been testing Starmie and Gross, and they have so far been working nicely. I don't however, see the Jirachi equivalent for Support Gross. What would that be?

What makes "Salajask" so good? I know I'm stating the obvious here, but Salamence is weak to Rock and Ice, and so is Ninjask. I don't see how you will be able to successfully pull of your pass unless the opponent is locked on a Fire move. Also, lead sashers will ruin your Salamence sweep more often than not. This combination seems like it severely limits the rest of your team (ex. you have to have a spinner because they both take massive SR damage).

Vaporeon is an outstanding Pokemon, but he needs Wish! That will help out your Donphan a lot too.

And then your last two Pokemon... Electivire is so easily walled in Platinum and with Latias now OU, Infernape's efficacy has been cut in half.

Sorry, I have to go now. I have some suggestions that I will try and get to later, but I can't atm. Good luck with the team.

Yes, I agree that vappy needs wish, although for a support Jirachi;

You could use something like T-wave/U-turn/Wish/Zen Headbutt
Or you could add reflect/light screen as well.

If you want to use toxic like with vappy, you can use that too.

@Stauffen
Ninjask has no business battling himself in this team, so his weaknessess don't matter much. Not to mention he dies to literally everything. I use Ninjask to break Sash leads. It's not the best thing ever, but it works nicely.
Your comment on the spinner is quite accurate, although I don't see how it would differ from needing a spinner for simply Mence, Gyara, Nite, Zard...
And there's something else which is probably my fault. Salajask gives people the wrong impression. Ninjask can serve literally anyone on this team. True, Mence is the favored one most of the time, but if the situation isn't good, I have 3 other pokes who can come in. Hell, even 4 with Vappy.

As for Vappy. First, he's probably being replaced by Gross and Starmie. (as is donphan). I have yet to find myself in a situation where Wish would've been more useful than HP Elec or Toxic. It's unconvetional, I know, but it works for this team, since it hates to get defensive.

As for Vire and Nape, you're quite right. They're the part I need most advice on. They work ok for now, but could certainly use some remodeling.

Comments in Dark Red for Valentine's Day.

dpmfa291.png

Ninjask @ Focus Sash
Jolly - Speed Boost
252 Spe/252 Atk

Swords Dance
Baton Pass
X-Scissor
Protect

Maybe Sub over Protect, so you can possibly pass more Speed and attack boosts to Salamence, to help it sweep more efficiently.

Spr_4d_373.png

Salamence @ Lum Berry/Life Orb
Naughty - Intimidate
232 Atk/24 Sp.Atck/252 Speed

Dragon Claw
Fire Blast
Earthquake
Aqua Tail/Draco Meteor/Stone Edge
If you're gonna pass it to Salamence, Stone Edge would be your best option, so that you can hit Gyarados for a decent amount of damage. If using Sub, then Life Orb here would be best, although not necessary.

dpmfa134.png

Vaporeon - Leftovers
Bold - Water Absorb
188 HP / 252 Def / 68 SpAtk

Surf
Ice Beam
Hidden Power Electric
Toxic/Yawn

Why not go with the Wish Vappy? It'll help your team with a few healing boosts, considering none of them have any way of healing.

dpmfa232.png

Donphan @ Leftovers
Impish - Sturdy
252 HP/6 Atk/252 Def

Rapid Spin
Earthquake
Ice Shard
Stealth Rock/Roar

SR is your best bet here. You could replace Shard with Roar.

dpmfa392.png

Infernape - Life Orb
Naive - Blaze
64 Atk/252 SpA/192 Spe

Fire Blast
HP Ice
Grass Knot
Close Combat

Not much to say here, but with SS, Life Orb, Spikes, SR, and Toxic Spikes, Stall Teams will take Infernape out very quickly.

dpmfa466.png

Electivire @ Expert Belt
Adamant - Motor Drive
252 Attack/252 Speed

Earthquake
Cross Chop
Ice Punch
T-Punch

Have you considered Mixed Vire. With less and less Electric attacks running around, Mixed Vire could surprise your opponent and help in the long run.

Ninjask :
Protect is needed to come back mid-game. Sub doesn't do as well

Sally: Stone Edge is under testing

Vappy: So far I need all of those to keep hitting stuff. Vappy will probably be replaced by Gross, though.

Donphan: Have already done it, SR it is.

Nape: Can't argue with that xD. Although it has been working fine thus far.

Vire: Actually, I have. I'm looking into it now.

Can anybody suggest another duo for the sweepers? Preferably one physically based mix, and one specially based mix.

Can anybody suggest another duo for the sweepers? Preferably one physically based mix, and one specially based mix.

Replace infernape with Gyarados and make electivire mixed:

Gyarados @ Leftovers/life orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 54 HP / 252 Atk / 204 Spd or 90 HP / 252 Atk /
168 Spd
Adamant or Jolly
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge/Ice Fang

DD-Gyara is such a beast. You can use Gyara in tandem with E-vire to grab Speed boosts if Ninjask is gone. The first set of evs is for Adamant to outspeed positive base 120's like gengar after a DD, and the 2nd with jolly to outspeed Jolteon and other positive base 130s.

Electivire @ Life Orb/Expert Belt
Ability:
Motor Drive
Evs:
78 Atk / 252 SpA /180 Spd
Mild
- Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power Ice
- Cross Chop

Heres the set you should use for E-vire.

Well thats about all...Hope i helped, and good luck woth the team =)

I don't have any real advice for this team, but all I'm gonna say is that I think Ninjask is really outdated and doesn't work anymore. Almost every common lead sets up Stealth Rock, not counting the huge amount of Pokemon carrying Roar or Whirlwind. If it works for you that's fine, but in my experience, everytime I face a team with a Ninjask lead I'll win 90% of the time.

Hmmm, interesting how you don't attempt to fix it...

Ninjask: Fine, don't change, but I don't know, Gross leads will Bullet Punch you to 6-0 and back... I honestly think that Sub won't make a difference, so just keep the set the way it is.

Mence: Lum Berry is fine, because if Cres switches in, you can take the Status, and make an attempt to faint her. If you're itching for more power, go with Life Orb, but that's your decision. Stone Edge > Other Options.

Vappy: Wish > HP Electric. This Pokemon is designed to switch in on Gyara and scare it with Status, nothing else. You really need the team support, so keep Wish in there.

Donphan: Test Roar over Ice Shard, like Lord Blood said, but you'll find your team destroyed by CM Latias, so you should keep Ice Shard IMO.

Ape: OK, now, don't listen to Lord Blood :P. You have a spinner to clear the field of all of those entry hazards, and this Poke will work wonders. Don't change.

E-Vire: I think it's a pretty good Poke, soaking in Electric attacks, but you need a new set.

Electivire @ Expert Belt
Ability: Motor Drive
Lonely Natured (+Atk, -Def)
252 Atk / 80 SpA / 176 Spe

~ Thunderbolt
~ Ice Punch
~ Cross Chop
~ Earthquake

This is a Physically based Mix Set, like you asked for. Self-explanatory really.

Anyways, hope I helped, good luck with the team:).

Ninjask:

He seems like a good lead, but there's just so much that wrecks him. A first turn switch to a Phazer spells your doom. Any Priority move on the lead spells your doom. A first turn Taunt or Trick spells your doom. Magma Storm and Rock Blast spell your doom. Sandstorm/Hail spells your doom.

Most leads run either Trick (Azelf/Jirachi/Metagross/Bronzong), Taunt (Azelf/Infernape/Weavile), a Priority Move (Infernape/Weavile/Metagross), Weather (Abomasnow/Tyranitar/Hippowdon), or a Phazing move (Hippowdon). It is rare that you find a lead that cannot do anything to Ninjask.

Might I suggest Agilipass Lopunny instead? He can have protection from Trick (Klutz), protection from Taunt (Mirror Coat), Protection from Hazing (Encore, assuming they use a move other than the Hazing move the first turn), and slightly more bulk with which to survive a priority attack.

I know Ninjask is high risk. It'd been wroking fine, but Gross really is quite a pain, and with their increasing popularity, it's been getting harder and harder to use Jask. But it's been working so far. Also, I'm already getting back with my first string team, so I won't play with this much longer

So, everyone's already told you about the issues that come along with leading with that Ninjask. Using one isn't THAT bad of an idea; just try leading with something else and bringing Ninjask in midgame (make sure to clear out SR) when "Anti-Ninjask" Pokemon such as Metagross, Mamoswine, and Skarmory are gone, weakened, or simply not expecting it. You're not dependent on those speed boosts, so you'll be fine without Ninjask for a few turns.

So what to lead with... Donphan could work, but have a backup spinner in case it gets KOd. Starmie was previously suggested, so that could work.

This has potential to be a fairly competitive team, not just a fun one. Keep on polishing it and you'll tear those stallers apart!

I can't believe that never occured me xD.
Now that you mention it, it is pretty sweet. I'm looking over some stuff here, I think I've got something pretty neat.
