Sand Fortess (does contain forretress)

I made this team a while ago when i wanted to see if i could make a successful bulky offense team in a metagame that focused more intensely on quick, frail sweepers and in general very fast play. I decided i would also try to focus on entry hazard abuse, since its fun to see your opponents pokemon lose 30% of their health just for switching in. I also thought that it might be fun to create some new movesets or try out underrated movesets, even if the pokemon themselves are extremely overused. You may have faced my team on the ladder, and if you did it probably made you pretty frustrated. I have to admit its one of my better teams, and it has never gone down without a hard fight. Well anyways, heres the team:

Spr_5b_227.png

Skarmory@leftovers
sturdy
impish nature
252hp, 252def, 4speed
brave bird
roost
spikes
whirlwind
This is the standard physically defensive skarmory. It can take physical hits like a boss, and also sets up spike and phazes. It is without a doubt one of the most important member of this team, as it relies heavily on phazing. Roost is great for reliable recovery, and it has brave bird for a strong stab move. Theres not much else to say; it fits in perfectly with the rest of the team.

Spr_5b_242_s.png

Blissey@leftovers
natural cure
bold nature
4hp, 252 def, 252spatk
thunderbolt
ice beam
flamethrower
softboiled
You're probably looking at this set and thinking "what the heck is wrong with this guy" and if i hadn't tried out this set, i would be thinking the same thing. However, Blissey is an absolute monster with these moves. it hits 248 special attack which is decent when it hits almost everthing for X4 supereffective damage. Blissey actually might be the biggest killer on this team (other than hazards) as people will bring their scizzors or gliscors or ferrothorns (the list goes on and on) expecting to set up only to get ohkod by a supereffective move, and then proceed to type "wat" or "wtf". Massive lulz.

Spr_5b_149.png

Dragonite@leftovers
multiscale
careful nature (+spdef, -spatk)
240hp, 4atk, 252spdef, 12 speed
substitute
roost
dragon tail
thunderwave
Just your average parashuffler dragonite, i think i may have copied the set directly off of smogon. Regardless, it fits great as paralysis is the only status i have on this team, and dragonite has paralzed entire teams without being scratched. Hes my second phazer, and i usually try to keep him at full health until around turn 10, and then he comes in and paralyzes everthing while shuffling the opponents team around. If i can get sub off and then roost back to full, theres almost nothing the opponent can do, as even strong attacks do not break his subs. Hes another great addition to this team.

Spr_5b_593_m.png

Jellicent@leftovers
water absorb
bold nature
252hp, 164def, 92 speed
recover
taunt
scald
ice beam
I'm not exactly sure why i originally put this guy on my team, i think its because hes really the only defensive spinblocker in ou. Hes great because i hate having to have 4 turns of hazards blown away with one attack, and he can take on nearly all the spinners in the metagame. i decided to put scald ice beam over WoW because scald burns enough of the time, and i like to focus on paralyzing the other team. He can also outspeed and taunt a large part of the metagame, preventing enemy hazards and whatnot.

Spr_5b_450_m.png

Hippowdon@leftovers
sand stream
impish nature
252hp, 4def, 252 spdef
stealth rock
roar
earthquake
slack off
This guy is ridiculous. He is essentially another skarmory, only with more spdef and different typing. He brings the sandstorm, which is pretty good at wearing down the other team, especially if they dont have many recovery moves, and powers up my landorus. He is my stealth rocker on the team, so i usually lead with him to get rocks up first turn, as almost nothing can even 2hko him. The evs and nature may seem odd, but they let him take both physical and special hits with ease, giving him respectable 420hp, 300def, and 243spdef, which not many pokemon can accomplish. He is my third and final phazer, as i usually call him back after he sets up rocks and send him in once the small amount of pokemon that can actually kill him are dead. He fits on this team much better than tyranitar would.

Spr_5b_645.png

Landorus@leftovers
sand force
jolly nature
252 hp, 4 atk, 252 speed
substitute
bulk up
earthquake
stone edge
Not gonna lie, this guy doesnt really do much. I came up with this idea and thought it would work great on this team, but i never really have an oppurtunity to set up with him or i win the battle too quickly. I am thinking about changing him to a more offensive swords dance set, but i really have no idea here.

Well theres the team, feel free to give me feedback or suggestions. I will finish the threat list eventually

One of the main things I am seeing here is a weakness to toxic and bulky waters, as well as reuniclus.

One pokemon I can recommend for you is roserade over landorus.

Roserade is a very good toxic spiker and moves like leaf storm or giga drain will put bulky waters back in their place. It can also put dangerous pokemon to sleep with sleep powder. It is also immune to toxic and can absorb toxic spikes, so that will help when tent tries to lay down toxic spikes, or when someone is aiming a pesky toxic at hippo, jelly, or nite.

Toxic Spikes will benefit you greatly, like it does for all other stall teams (and you will then have all three entry hazards on your team). It gives you the ability to stall certain Pokemon you can't kill with attacking.

One of the worst problems a stall team can have is a reuniclus weakness, which you have. roar or whirlwind may work fine until he is their last pokemon, in which case, he might singlehandedly sweep your team.

Because of this, I would suggest choice band spiritomb.
He pretty much counters your biggest threat in the calm mind set.

He is immune to both psychic and fighting moves, and if reuniclus happens to carry shadow ball, spiritomb can take that for a bit. He can trick a choice band onto reuniclus to stop calm mind, as well as hitting him with pursuit, sucker punch, shadow sneak, or will-o-wisp.

It also makes a great spin blocker, so you can keep the hazards up.

the basic set should look like this:
spiritomb
adamant, choice band, 252 att, 252 hp, 6 sp. def.
-sucker punch/shadow sneak
-pursuit
-will-o-wisp
-trick

sucker punch/shadow sneak for priority and power with choice band,
pursuit to stop spinners like starmie from cowering in the corner of their poke ball, will-o-wisp to cripple physical attackers, and trick to cripple set-up sweepers like reuniclus. ev spread is simple, hp for bulk, attack for power with choice band, special defense to stop porygon-z from getting the special attack boost.

Also, the dragonite should be changed to a choice specs latios.
This will help bring offense to the table and punch holes in your opponent's team when stalling is a bad idea.
Having two trick pokemon will most likely cripple opposing stall teams beyond repair with the correct prediction.
If they switch something in, you will have hit them hard and you can either stay in and kill them or go to a stalling pokemon to make them die from spikes, force them out, or to just keep them from wrecking stuff.

When you're done, the team should look like this:
Skarmory (with blissey, forms obligatory stalling defensive combo)
Blissey
Hippowdon (with tomb, helps shut down most of the stuff that can beat skarmbliss, like fighting types and set-up sweepers that are the last pokemon)
Spiritomb (spin blocks and keeps your t-spikes down)
Roserade (beats bulky waters, is immune to toxic and absorbs toxic spikes.)
Latios (specs brings instant power to the table, so it is good at putting holes in the opponent's team. Also helps form the psychic part of the dark/psychic/fighting combo. Best part is, the dark type has ghost thrown in as extra.)

Hope I helped!

Hi Ninjadolphin,

First off nice stall team, it’s really refreshing to see some creative sets such as a Blissey with attacks that are not named Seismic Toss! Now looking at your team, I can see a few threats to it, namely Reuniclus, Bulky Waters, and Starmie. With many stall teams, Pokemon with the Magic Guard ability such as Reuniclus pose major threats as they are immune to the residual damage such as sand, poison, and entry hazards that stall relies on. To defeat Reuniclus, I think you should consider replacing your Sub+Bulk Up Landorus with a Scarf Tyranitar. Scarftar benefits your team in several ways: it beats the aforementioned Reuniclus, provides an offensive presence that can clean up once your entry hazards have worn down the opponent, and also provides a second Sand Stream user alongside Hippowdon. Having both Sand Stream users is nice to help you win the weather war and keep that 1/16 HP loss at the end of every turn up. Scarftar also allows you to trap and dispose of potential threats such as Latios and Mew. Additionally, Scarftar with Aerial Ace allows you to dispose of the pesky Breloom who is a huge menace to stall teams as it can not be poisoned or burned after Poison Heal is activated. Also, you said that your current Landorus isn’t doing much so I definitely suggest a switch to Scarftar.

Now a second threat I mentioned are bulky Water types such as Vaporeon and Swampert. A good way to beat these defensive mons is through the use of Toxic which decreases their survivability and ability to wall. Unfortunately, at the moment your team only has Paralysis as a status-inflicting move so think a standard Tentacruel set will therefore benefit your team in many teams. Tentacruel is able to set up Toxic Spikes which ensures that these bulky waters (except for Rotom-W) will not be lasting long and will eventually be worn down. Tentacruel is also beneficial in it’s ability to Rapid Spin which is crucial on a stall team. Because your team relies on switching your Pokemon in and out to wall certain threats, the damage from Stealth Rock and Spikes will steadily wear them down and decrease their ability to wall. Therefore, Tentacruel helps by clearing your side of these entry hazards, allowing you to switch into your proper walls more often. Tentacruel can also pack Scald for a burn chance to cripple physical attackers and to add residual damage to those that are unaffected by Toxic Spikes. I would choose to replace Dragonite with Tentacruel as you already have two phazers in Skarmory and Hippowdon and the Paralysis from Thunder Wave would clash with Toxic Spikes.

A final change I would suggest is replacing Ice Beam on Jellicent with Shadow Ball. Jellicent is a great spin blocker that can handle most Rapid Spinners, but your current set is beaten by Starmie, who is the most common of them, if it is packing Thunder/Thunderbolt. Using Shadow Ball would provide Jellicent a STAB Super Effective attack on Starmie that can be used to take out Starmie if the starfish is hit on the swtich-in. This prevents your opponent from taking out your spinblocker and then spinning all the hazards that you pain-stakingly set up.

Hope I helped and good luck with your team!
