Sand Stall *staring* LUCARIO

hello smogon, with your help, i would like to create a stall team that revolves around entry hazards, roar/whirlwind to rack up as much damage as possible and finishing it of with lucario sweep. i have already made so many variants of this team and am out of ideas. lucario is staple on all my teams, so i would like to have something that revolves around him.

when i was looking for a lead that would fit in a stall team, hippowdon and tyranitar came to mind first. politoed would also be a good choice, removing fire weakness from skarmory and lucario. anyway, hippo is my stealth rocker, very important move to my play strategy. i used to have whirlwind on him, but i opted for ice fang, as was suggested to me, to deal easier with the likes of garchomp and other dragons. although he is a good physical wall, there are ways to play around him and sometimes he has trouble surviving even with slack off.

tyranitar is my second weather inducer. together with hippowdon they make sure i will have the upper in the weather wars. although they share common weaknesses, the fact that one is a physical wall and the other a special wall is a plus in playing mind games with the opponent. i could have gone with a different special wall, but having a second weather inducer has many advantages. even if one is taken down, in the end i will still have the upper hand against opposing weather.
tyranitar serves as my special wall/traper. it can tank many hits and then strike back with a super effective move or if i predict a switch, i pursuit them to death.

@ leftovers
water absorb

scald
shadow ball
taunt

i never considered using jellicent, since gastrodon fits better with hippowdon, but i needed a spinblocker. i havent tried all the ghosts yet, something like dusklops or cofagrigus sounds pretty cool, but jelli has that sweet ability to absord water moves and helps dealing with gliscor, who is tough to kill with this team. the set i am running is semi-offensive. two stab attack in tthe form of scald and shadow ball. it helps kill or outstall some spinners like starmie and although it wont do much to tentacruel, if i have my weather up and its not raining, i am confident i can take it down first. taunt and 88 speed evs helps to prevent me from getting poisoned from some slower threats,

95-skarmory.jpg

@ rocky helmet
sturdy
252 hp 244 def 12 sdef
impish

brave bird
roost
spikes
whirlwind

this is my main defense againt dragons, atleast until fairy types comes out lol. rocky helmet is here to chip of some damage from physical attackers. skarmory is the spiker of this team. something like ferrothorn is also an option though. he is also my whirlwind user. he doesnt last very long, but it is worth it the extra passive damage he can dish out. setting 3 lvls of spikes is never easy, that is somewhat compensated with his move roost to keep him healthy for as long as possible. magnezone is his biggest enemy, but i learned a handy trick to whirlwind right away. this move saved his ass many times.

41-sigilyph.jpg

@ flame orb / toxic orb ???
magic guard
252 hp 128 def 128 sdef
calm

psycho shift
cosmic power
roost
whirlwind

"this is where the fun begins." sigilyph is the best mixed wall i have ever used. its not his stats that are exeptional, but his move cosmic power and ability magic guard. these two combined make a devastating mix. the item of choice is flame orb to shut down physical attackers, but toxic orb is also a viable choice to kill faster. psycho shift spreads status around, it is like a will-o-wisp with better accuracy. sigilyph is my second whirlwind user, and the most important one. i gave him evs on both his defences to be able survive atleast until i get 1-2 cosmic power boosts. after that, the only thing that can stop him is another phazer, taunt or magic bounce espeon. now, with whirlwind if my hazards are up, i can phaze until only one pokemon remains and than finish it off with lucario, or let them burn to death. am still not sure whether to use flame orb or toxic orb.

78-lucario.jpg

@ life orb
justified
4 hp 252 atk 252 spe
adamant

close combat
bullet punch
extremespeed
swords dance

this is the star of the team and my late game sweeper, lucario. after everything is weakened, this beast just comes in and cleans the table. after a sd boost and life orb, his attack power skyrockets. i gave him two priority moves, to deal with the faster threats that resist extremespeed, like gengar or terakion. although stuff like gliscor and reuniclus are also very threatning to my team, so ice punch or crunch would be also a good option. i gave him the ability justified to get some free attack boost. there is not much left to say about him. he is pretty straightforward.

please rate and thanks

This is a pretty solid team overall, but it has a pretty gaping special weakness, Pokemon like Latios, Gengar, Alakazam, Venusaur, Latias, even the likes of Magnezone can potentially open large walls in this team rather easily or even outright sweep you.

Probably the easiest fix for this team would be to run a specially defensive Pokemon over Sigilyph, Heatran in particular does a pretty solid job at checking or walling those Pokemon, as well as scaring out Pokemon like Ferrothorn which have the potential to be bothersome. For this, I suggest using the Specially Defensive Heatran, on site.

If you wish to keep Sigilyph, like your sentences suggest you do, there are a few other options to consider. It is possible to exchange Skarmory for Heatran, while this does solve those special weaknesses, you not gain weaknesses to some Pokemon, in particular Mamoswine. I suppose overall though, the exchange gives you a new gain for the team.

Outside of this, I have a few nitpicks for you to consider.

Jellicent should definitely be running Leftovers as an item, easily over Lum Berry. If you run Heatran or Blissey, Jellicent should probably be running Willow-Wisp over Toxic also. In your team's current form, it should run Taunt, which shuts down opposing teams, in particular spikes stacking which you are weak to, being that you lack spinner.

On the same note, Taunt may be a better option for Skarmory over Brave Bird, however this may need testing, I see a few threats which Brave Bird is useful, like Mamoswine.

I suggest you run Ice Fang on Hippowdon, currently you have to way to really even attack Pokemon like Dragonite and Salamence, IMO a way to dispatch them immediately would be greatly appreciated. If you run Heatran or Blissey, it can be used over Stealth Rock, as they can use it instead.

For Roserade, I suggest you use an EV spread of 252 HP / 120 Def / 40 SDef / 96 Spd Calm, this allows Roserade to outspeed Adamant Breloom and other threats, while keeping roughly the same defense. Also, I assume you are using Rest and just missed it out in listing, if not use it. If you are not running Siglyph anymore, consider running Aromatherapy over Toxic Spikes, on the same note, you will have to run Spikes on Roserade if you lose Skarmory. I personally prefer Sludge Bomb on Roserade more, the extra power and ability to outright 1HKO Breloom is great.

Finally, you may want to consider Crunch over Bullet Punch on Lucario, which helps Lucario break through annoying Pokemon like Reuniclus and Jellicent for this team, however, you do lose the ability to check Kyurem-B, so you may wan to test it.

good luck man, hope I helped

hi, thanks for the rate.
you right, roserade was missing 4th move, thx for the heads up. i already edited it.

so i need a special wall, heatran or blissey. i would really like to keep sigilyph, so maybe instead of roserade or hippowdon? or i can try a spdef tyranitar with ice beam/fire blast/crunch/stealth rock.
i will also consider all the other changes you proposed.
i will report back later, how it went.

Hippowdon is pretty much a staple of them team IMO losing it would effect your synergy way to much.

If anything, losing Roserade or Jellicent is an option, although ditching either does have it's problems, losing Roserade makes this team much weaker to Keldeo and other rain attackers, unless you replace it directly with Blissey. Losing Jellicent leaves this team a bit weaker to fighting types overall, as well as losing the spin blocker.

Make sure if you run Tyranitar, you use it over Roserade and not Jellicent, otherwise this team suffers a large from a weakness to Pokemon like Keldeo and Volcarona.

As for the Tyranitar set, consider the Support Tyranitar on site.

ok, i made some of the changes you sugested, like ice fang on hippowdon, taunt on skarmory, leftovers on jellicent.

i tried both blissey and tyranitar, and surprisingly i had more luck with tyranitar. i was able to play mind games with hippo/tar during weather wars, plus he is a great addition chasing down threats with pursuit.
i almost forgot, i changed him for roserade.
this is the set i used:
