[OVERVIEW]

Excadrill is a strong sand sweeper thanks to its incredible ability in Sand Rush that allows it to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame under sand, great Ground / Steel typing that aids it offensively and defensively, and access to Swords Dance and Rapid Spin, with the latter helping Excadrill sweep when sand is not set up. Rock Slide also gives Excadrill incredible coverage, enabling it to hit checks like Zapdos and Pelipper. However, as Pokemon like Slowbro and Buzzwole possess the physical bulk to take its moves even after a Swords Dance and threaten it back with their STAB moves, while Pokemon like Corviknight, Skarmory, and Rotom-W can stonewall Excadrill due to their defensive typings. Moreover, even though Excadrill possesses an incredible defensive typing, its lackluster bulk hampers it severely, leaving it weak to a wide variety of Pokemon.

Set Description
=========

Thanks to its high Attack stat further bolstered by Swords Dance, solid offensive typing, and access to Sand Rush, Excadrill functions as an extremely dangerous sand sweeper. Swords Dance enables Excadrill to sweep entire teams, allowing it to OHKO Dragapult, Melmetal, and Urshifu-R at +2 with Earthquake. Iron Head, on top of being a STAB move, OHKOes Weavile and Tapu Lele while 2HKOing Clefable, whereas Rock Slide hits Zapdos and Pelipper while OHKOing Volcarona. Rapid Spin lets Excadrill remove entry hazards like Stealth Rock and Spikes, which is particularly notable due to the lack of spinblockers that can stomach Earthquake in the tier, its ability to not activate Defiant from Defog punishers such as Galarian Zapdos and Bisharp, and the moveset flexibility it provides to teammates like Zapdos and Tornadus-T. Rapid Spin also boosts its Speed, letting it sweep without sand and outspeed Zeraora and Dragapult at +1 in conjunction with a Jolly nature. Leftovers heals off chip damage from hazards, allowing Excadrill to take hits from the likes of Dragapult and Weavile in a pinch while checking Electric-types like Tapu Koko and Zapdos without Heat Wave more effectively, whereas Air Balloon lets it set up on Ground-types like specially defensive Garchomp, opposing Excadrill, and Hippowdon in addition to making it immune to Spikes.

Team Options
========

Excadrill is mainly used on sand teams due to its ability Sand Rush, letting it sweep much more easily and provide valuable speed control for sand teams. Tyranitar is an exemplary teammate for Excadrill, as it reliably sets up sand with Sand Stream and can support it in a variety of ways depending on its set; Choice Band variants help pressure stall teams that depend on Corviknight or Skarmory to stave off Excadrill while pressuring shared checks like Buzzwole against other structures, while specially defensive sets help wear down checks like Corviknight, Skarmory, Rotom-W, and Buzzwole with Stealth Rock and status from Thunder Wave or Toxic. Alternatively, Hippowdon is another solid sand setter, allowing Excadrill to fit on bulkier archetypes due to it being a bulky Ground-type with reliable recovery and access to Stealth Rock. Ferrothorn pairs extremely well with Excadrill, as it is a Steel-type that can check threats like Weavile and Tapu Lele, compensating for Excadrill's inability to reliably check those threats due to its lack of bulk. Ferrothorn also provides entry hazard support with Stealth Rock or Spikes, and it can remove items from the likes of Corviknight, Skarmory, and Buzzwole with Knock Off while being one of the better checks in the tier to Rotom-W. Clefable's Magic Guard ability makes it immune to sand chip damage and a good switch-in to Scald users like Slowbro and Gastrodon while also being another option to set Stealth Rock; in return, Excadrill threatens checks to Clefable like Galarian Slowking and Melmetal. Zapdos threatens checks like Slowbro, Buzzwole, Corviknight, and Skarmory for Excadrill, takes hits from Grass-types like Kartana and Rillaboom and can wear down bulky Ground-types that can trade with Excadrill in a pinch, such as Landorus-T, Hippowdon, and Garchomp; in exchange, Excadrill threatens Weavile and Tapu Lele, and its Rapid Spin allows Zapdos to run moves like Heat Wave and Toxic instead of Defog. Tornadus-T aids Excadrill by removing Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers from checks like Zapdos, Rotom-W, and Landorus-T, while Excadrill can use Rapid Spin to remove Stealth Rock that Tornadus-T despises without Heavy-Duty Boots, letting it run Assault Vest or Nasty Plot sets. Tapu Lele threatens Rotom-W and Buzzwole, prevents Excadrill from being hit by Weavile's Ice Shard and Urshifu-R's Aqua Jet, offers Future Sight support, and is a solid form of speed control outside of sand if running a Choice Scarf set. In return, Excadrill threatens checks to Tapu Lele such as Heatran and Galarian Slowking. Urshifu-R threatens Landorus-T and Ferrothorn as well as being able to revenge kill Blaziken with Aqua Jet, which can easily tear through sand teams, while Excadrill can threaten Urshifu-R's checks like Clefable and Toxapex. Moreover, they can wear down Slowbro, Corviknight, and Skarmory together.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Excadrill can opt for a Choice Band with Earthquake, Iron Head, Rock Slide, and Rapid Spin, which lets it 2HKO Zapdos outright and 2HKO Ferrothorn and Slowbro after slight chip damage; however, it doesn't appreciate being Choice-locked. Excadrill can also function as a suicide lead, holding a Focus Sash with a moveset of Earthquake, Rapid Spin, Steel Beam, and Stealth Rock, though Landorus-T and Mew typically function better as suicide leads. Excadrill can use Mold Breaker to ignore Levitate on Rotom-W, Unaware on Quagsire, and Multiscale on Dragonite, though it is very niche otherwise. This set is usually specially defensive to check Fairy-types like Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele more effectively, but it is not recommended due to its severe lack of longevity.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Slowbro can tank hits from Excadrill even after a Swords Dance and can threaten it with Scald or Body Press. Rotom-W is immune to Earthquake, resists Iron Head, and doesn't mind taking Rock Slide while threatening to OHKO Excadrill with Hydro Pump.

**Bulky Ground-types**: Landorus-T takes hits from Excadrill reasonably well thanks to Intimidate, Hippowdon's great natural bulk lets it eat hits from Excadrill, and both of them can threaten it with Earthquake in retaliation.

**Faster Threats**: Threats like Dragapult, Blacephalon, Garchomp, and Urshifu-R all outspeed Excadrill outside of sand and can OHKO it.

**Priority Moves**: Choice Band Urshifu-R can OHKO Excadrill with Aqua Jet after slight chip damage, Rillaboom can OHKO it with Grassy Glide either at +2 or with a Choice Band, and Weavile can take out Excadrill with Ice Shard if it is at very low HP.

**Non-Ground-weak Steel-types**: Corviknight and Skarmory are immune to Earthquake and don't take much damage from Rock Slide. In addition, they can also threaten Excadrill with Body Press. Ferrothorn can use Leech Seed on Excadrill and use attacking moves like Power Whip and Body Press to deal good damage, though it struggles to switch in on +2 Excadrill. Air Balloon Heatran is immune to Earthquake, takes little damage from Excadrill's other moves, and can OHKO it with Magma Storm.

[OVERVIEW]
Excadrill is a strong sand sweeper thanks to its incredible ability in Sand Rush that allows it to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame under sand, great Ground / Steel typing that aids it offensively and defensively, and great base Attack and solid Speed stat (you should talk about how SD/spin helps it sweep, especially with Rapid Spin in this generation giving it a Speed boost to finish off teams once sandstorm subsides). Excadrill is also one of the very few Pokemon that has access to Rapid Spin, allowing it to keep entry hazards off the field for its teammates (reword this after you've finished writing the sentence before this). Rock Slide also gives Excadrill incredible coverage, enabling it to hit checks like Zapdos and Pelipper and Tornadus-T (Torn does not like taking Iron Head). However, Excadrill does have its fair share of weaknesses, as many Pokemon like Slowbro, Rotom-W, and Landorus-T Buzzwole can somewhat easily wall it possess the physical bulk to take its moves even after a Swords Dance and threaten it back with their STAB moves, while Pokemon like Corviknight, Skarmory, and Rotom-W can stonewall Excadrill due to their defensive typings. Another weakness is that other weather archetypes are pretty common, most specifically rain, which can almost completely diminish Excadrill's chances of sweeping (Sand actually wins these weather wars a lot because of how robust Tyranitar/Excadrill and friends are even outside of sand, while rain/sun/hail teams are very reliant on keeping weather up to function. Mention how Excadrill is pretty frail when it doesn't have defensive investment, so its defensive utility is actually quite limited despite its fantastic typing.).

Set Description

Thanks to its high Attack stat further bolstered by Swords Dance, solid offensive typing, and access to Sand Rush, Excadrill functions as an extremely dangerous sand sweeper. Swords Dance enables Excadrill to have the ability to sweep entire teams, allowing it to OHKO Dragapult, Melmetal, and Urshifu-R at +2. Iron Head, on top of being a STAB move, OHKOes Weavile and Tapu Lele while 2HKOing Clefable, whereas Rock Slide hits Zapdos and Tornadus-T Pelipper while OHKOing Volcarona. Rapid Spin lets Excadrill remove entry hazards like Stealth Rock and Spikes set up by Landorus-T, Heatran, and Ferrothorn while also boosting its Speed, letting it sweep without sand. (mention how a Jolly nature is recommended as it can outspeed Zeraora and Dragapult outside of sand after a Rapid Spin) Leftovers keeps Excadrill healthy heals off chip damage from entry hazards, and lets it switch in more easily on Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele allowing it to take hits from the likes of Dragapult and Weavile in a pinch while checking Electric-types like Tapu Koko and Zapdos without Heat Wave more effectively, whereas Air Balloon lets it safely switch in on Landorus-T, Dragonite, and opposing Excadrill lets it set up on Ground-types like specially defensive Garchomp, opposing Excadrill, and Hippowdon while also making it immune to Spikes.

Team Options
========

Excadrill's main use is mainly used on sand teams due to its ability Sand Rush, letting it sweep much more easily (it also provides Speed control for a lot of sand teams). Excadrill should be paired with Tyranitar due to its Sand Stream ability setting up sand for Excadrill. Tyranitar can either run a Choice Band set to threaten Ferrothorn and Landorus-T for Excadrill, or it can run a specially defensive set to Stealth Rock for Excadrill. Tyranitar is an exemplary teammate for Excadrill, as it reliably sets up sand with Sand Stream and can support it in a variety of ways depending on its set: Choice Band variants help pressure stall teams that depend on Corviknight or Skarmory to stave off Excadrill while pressuring shared checks like Buzzwole against other structures, while specially defensive sets help wear down checks like Corviknight, Skarmory, Rotom-W, and Buzzwole with Stealth Rock and status from Thunder Wave or Toxic. (Mention Hippowdon - HippoDrill structures aren't common but they do exist. Also putting Ferrothorn here because it's a Ttar sand staple) Ferrothorn pairs extremely well with Excadrill as it is a Steel-type that can check threats like Weavile and Tapu Lele, compensating for Excadrill's inability to reliably check those threats due to its lack of bulk. Ferrothorn also provides entry hazard support with Stealth Rock and Spikes, and can remove items from the likes of Corviknight, Skarmory, and Buzzwole with Knock Off while being one of the better checks in the tier to Rotom-W. Clefable is another great teammates thanks to its Magic Guard ability, making it immune to sand chip damage and a good switch-in to Scald users like Slowbro and Gastrodon while also being another option to set Stealth Rock; in return, Excadrill threatens checks to Clefable like Galarian Slowking and Melmetal. Ferrothorn can set Spikes and remove Rocky Helmet from Pokemon like Corviknight, Skarmory, and opposing Ferrothorn with Knock Off; in return, Excadrill threatens Fire-types like Heatran lacking Air Balloon, Blaziken, and Volcanion. Zapdos provides Defog support and can threaten Corviknight and Skarmory for Excadrill; in exchange, it threatens Weavile and Tapu Lele (The most important thing is that Zapdos shields Excadrill from Grass-types like Rillaboom and Kartana. Also mention Tornadus-T and how Excadrill being able to remove hazards with Rapid Spin allows it to run Assault Vest or Nasty Plot sets). Tapu Lele is a good partner, as it can threaten Rotom-W and Buzzwole, whereas Excadrill scares Heatran and Galarian Slowking. (more about Psychic Terrain blocking priority moves like Aqua Jet from Urshifu-R and Ice Shard from Weavile, as well as how Choice Scarf Tapu Lele is a good form of speed control outside of sand) Urshifu-R is another great partner, since it threatens Landorus-T and Ferrothorn, while Excadrill can threaten Clefable and Toxapex. (Write about how they kind of help each other break through stuff like Slowbro/Corv/Skarm while Urshifu-R really helps with Blaziken, who can break through sand teams quite easily.)

Other Options
=============

Excadrill can opt for a Choice Band with Earthquake, Iron Head, Rock Slide, and Rapid Spin, which lets it 2HKO Zapdos and 2HKO Ferrothorn and Slowbro after slight chip, however, it doesn't appreciate being Choice-locked. (mention how this set is usually specially defensive to help out with Fairy-types like Tapu Lele and Tapu Koko, but is severely hamstrung by its lack of longevity due to Leftovers being its only form of recovery)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Slowbro doesn't get close to being OHKOed by +2 can tank hits from Excadrill even after a Swords Dance, and it can threaten it with Scald or Body Press. Rotom-W usually doesn't get 2HKOed by Rock Slide is immune to Earthquake, resists Iron Head, and doesn't mind taking Rock Slide and can usually OHKO while threatening to OHKO Excadrill with Hydro Pump.

**Bulky Ground-types**: Landorus-T and specially defensive Garchomp can both take a hit from +2 Excadrill, and can OHKO it back with Earthquake if it isn't holding an Air Balloon. (Talk about how Landorus-T can reduce the power of Excadrill's moves with Intimidate and Hippowdon's excellent overall bulk allowing it to tank most attacks from Excadrill.)

**Other Weather Setters**: Pelipper, Alolan Ninetales, and Torkoal change sand into their own weather, making Excadrill unable to sweep, as it is slower than Dragapult, Blacephalon, and Urshifu-R, which can OHKO it with Flamethrower and Surging Strikes, respectively. (rewrite this as Faster Threats, sand isn't up all the time so Excadrill will have to deal with them in games)

**Priority Moves**: Choice Band Urshifu-R can OHKO Excadrill with Aqua Jet after slight chip, Rillaboom can OHKO it with Grassy Glide either at +2 or with a Choice Band, and Bisharp can OHKO it with Sucker Punch at +2 (mention how Weavile can take out Excadrill with Ice Shard if it is worn down enough).

**Steel-types Resistant that are not weak Tto Earthquake**: Corviknight and Skarmory are immune to Earthquake and don't take much damage from Rock Slide. In addition, they can also threaten Excadrill with Body Press. Ferrothorn can use Leech Seed on Excadrill and use its main attacking moves like Power Whip and Body Press to deal good damage, though it struggles to switch in on +2 Excadrill. (mention Air Balloon Heatran)

**Bulky Ground-types**: Landorus-T takes hits from Excadrill reasonably well thanks to Intimidate, and Hippowdon's great natural bulk lets it eat hits from Excadrill, and both of them can threaten it with Earthquake in retaliation.

**Faster Threats**: Threats like Dragapult, Blacephalon, Garchomp, and Urshifu-R all outspeed Excadrill outside of sand and can OHKO it.

**Priority Moves**: Choice Band Urshifu-R can OHKO Excadrill with Aqua Jet after slight chip, Rillaboom can OHKO it with Grassy Glide either at +2 or with a Choice Band, and Weavile can take out Excadrill with Ice Shard if it is at very low HP.

**Steel-types that are not weak to Earthquake**: Corviknight and Skarmory are immune to Earthquake and don't take much damage from Rock Slide.

However, Excadrill does have its fair share of weaknesses, (filler) as Pokemon like Slowbro and Buzzwole possess the physical bulk to take its moves even after a Swords Dance and threaten it back with their STAB moves, while Pokemon like Corviknight, Skarmory, and Rotom-W can stonewall Excadrill due to their defensive typings. Moreover, even though Excadrill possesses an incredible defensive typing, its lackluster bulk hampers it severely, leaving it weak to a wide variety of Pokemon.

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Description
=========

Thanks to its high Attack stat further bolstered by Swords Dance, solid offensive typing, and access to Sand Rush, Excadrill functions as an extremely dangerous sand sweeper. Swords Dance enables Excadrill to sweep entire teams, allowing it to OHKO Dragapult, Melmetal, and Urshifu-R at +2. (with what move?) Iron Head, on top of being a STAB move, OHKOes Weavile and Tapu Lele while 2HKOing Clefable, whereas Rock Slide hits Zapdos and Pelipper while OHKOing Volcarona. Rapid Spin lets Excadrill remove entry hazards like Stealth Rock and Spikes, which is particularly notable due to the lack of spinblockers that can stomach Earthquake in the tier, its ability to not activating activate Defiant from Defog punishers such as Galarian Zapdos-Galar and Bisharp, and the moveset flexibility it provides to teammates like Zapdos and Tornadus-T. while Rapid Spin also boosting boosts its Speed, letting it sweep without sand and outspeed Zeraora and Dragapult at +1 in conjunction with a Jolly nature. Leftovers heals off chip damage from entry hazards, allowing Excadrill to take hits from the likes of Dragapult and Weavile in a pinch while checking Electric-types like Tapu Koko and Zapdos without Heat Wave more effectively, whereas Air Balloon lets it set up on Ground-types like specially defensive Garchomp, opposing Excadrill, and Hippowdon while also (you tend to use "while" often) in addition to making it immune to Spikes.

Team Options
========

Excadrill's is mainly used on sand teams due to its ability Sand Rush, letting it sweep much more easily and provide valuable speed control for sand teams. Tyranitar is an exemplary teammate for Excadrill, as it reliably sets up sand with Sand Stream and can support it in a variety of ways depending on its set; (colon → semicolon) Choice Band variants help pressure stall teams that depend on Corviknight or Skarmory to stave off Excadrill while pressuring shared checks like Buzzwole against other structures, while specially defensive sets help wear down checks like Corviknight, Skarmory, Rotom-W, and Buzzwole with Stealth Rock and status from Thunder Wave or Toxic. Alternatively, Hippowdon is another solid sand setter, allowing Excadrill to fit on bulkier archetypes due to it being a bulky Ground-type with reliable recovery and access to Stealth Rock. Ferrothorn pairs extremely well with Excadrill, (AC) as it is a Steel-type that can check threats like Weavile and Tapu Lele, compensating for Excadrill's inability to reliably check those threats due to its lack of bulk. Ferrothorn also provides entry hazard support with Stealth Rock or Spikes, and it can remove items from the likes of Corviknight, Skarmory, and Buzzwole with Knock Off while being one of the better checks in the tier to Rotom-W. Clefable's is another great teammate (filler) thanks to its Magic Guard ability (RC) making makes it immune to sand chip damage and a good switch-in to Scald users like Slowbro and Gastrodon while also being another option to set Stealth Rock; in return, Excadrill threatens checks to Clefable like Galarian Slowking and Melmetal. Zapdos threatens checks like Slowbro, Buzzwole, Corviknight, (AC) and Skarmory for Excadrill, takes hits from Grass-types like Kartana and Rillaboom that threaten Excadrill, (I think this can be removed to avoid repetition of "Excadrill") and can wear down bulky Ground-types that can trade with Excadrill in a pinch, such as Landorus-T, Hippowdon, (AC) and Garchomp; in exchange, Excadrill threatens Weavile and Tapu Lele, (AC) and its Rapid Spin (reworded for clarity) allows Zapdos to run moves like Heat Wave and Toxic instead of Defog with Rapid Spin. Tapu Lele is a good partner, (filler) as it threatens Rotom-W and Buzzwole, prevents Excadrill from being hit by Weavile's Ice Shard and Urshifu-R's Aqua Jet, offers Future Sight support, and is a solid form of speed control outside of sand if running a Choice Scarf set. In return, Excadrill threatens checks to Tapu Lele such as Heatran and Galarian Slowking. Urshifu-R is another great partner, (filler) since it threatens Landorus-T and Ferrothorn while as well as being able to revenge kill Blaziken with Aqua Jet, which can easily tear through sand teams, while Excadrill can threaten Urshifu-R's checks like Clefable and Toxapex. Moreover, they can wear down Slowbro, Corviknight, and Skarmory together.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Excadrill can opt for a Choice Band with Earthquake, Iron Head, Rock Slide, and Rapid Spin, which lets it 2HKO Zapdos (outright? indicate this if so to make it more clear from the 2HKO calcs for Ferrothorn and Slowbro) and 2HKO Ferrothorn and Slowbro after slight chip damage; (comma → semicolon) however, it doesn't appreciate being Choice-locked.

===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Slowbro can tank hits from Excadrill even after a Swords Dance (RC) and it can threaten it with Scald or Body Press. Rotom-W is immune to Earthquake, resists Iron Head, and doesn't mind taking Rock Slide while threatening to OHKO Excadrill with Hydro Pump.

**Non-Ground-weak Steel-types that are not weak to Earthquake**: Corviknight and Skarmory are immune to Earthquake and don't take much damage from Rock Slide.
