after a short stint in 4th gen i returned to fifth and its been pretty fun, much to my surprise. this is the team ive been using and its been pretty successful, my highest rating was 1378. all suggestions are appreciated, as i feel that its missing something but im not sure what.
Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 240 HP / 16 SAtk / 252 SDef
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Slide
- Pursuit
- Flamethrower
ttar is here to set up sr, trap lati@s, check volcarona, and set up sand for landorus. lefties was chosen over something like balloon or chople because i need the longevity to keep changing the weather vs rain teams. for evs, i used max spdef to tank lati@s and volc better. 16 spatk gives a bonus point and the rest goes into hp for overall bulk. also, flamethrower > fire blast because fb has terrible accuracy.
Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Whirlwind
- Roost
- Brave Bird
skarm takes advantage of tar's weaknesses in order to set up spikes. since hp ice is so common on landorus now, skarm is my initial switch to it. no fancy ev spread here; max hp/max def to tank the insanely strong physical attackers this gen introduced, like landorus/terrakion/sd virizion etc. ive considered shed shell to escape magnezone but lefties has been really helpful in certain situations.
Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Facade
glis takes some defensive pressure off skarm. he's my main switch to excadrill and terrakion. with spikes out, sweeping bulky teams becomes fairly easy, especially since facade weakens rotom-w switchins (and unlike ice fang, cant miss, meaning balloon exca/terra wont sweep me -_-). protect is useful for scouting the numerous choice users in this metagame, like specs latios/cb azumarill/scarf landorus etc. the extra healing also helps me beat balloon sd terrakion, who'd otherwise 2hko with +2 stone edge. max hp is obvious, 176 def hits a bonus point, 80 spe outruns other gliscor.
Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 128 HP / 220 SAtk / 160 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Pain Split
this is my main check to rain teams. offensive rotom is a really cool mon; volt switch abuses spikes and hp fire surprise kills ferrothorn easily. if ive got a free turn, pain split is the way to go so i can keep myself healthy. hydro pumps accuracy sucks but its power is very nice...still, game freak, please release surf rotom-w. anyways, with a modest nature and heavy offensive investment, rotom hits surprisingly hard.
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Body Slam
- Iron Head
the third part of the most common core in the metagame. rachi checks pretty much every special attacker bar volcarona - latios, virizion, reuniclus, thundurus, tornadus etc are all stopped by him. protect is a great move, just like with gliscor, its extra recovery and scouting ability is invaluable. b-slam+iron head paraflinching technique can also function as an emergency recovery system. considering using u-turn > protect to really rack up spikes damage? not sure.
Landorus (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Hidden Power [Ice]
the star of the team. in a slow, bulky metagame, this dude tears things apart. i cant even describe how powerful a +2 life orb sand-boosted earthquake is, and stone edge isnt far behind. hp ice catches gliscor who think they can wall me once they see sd.
sorry if the descriptions were a bit too concise, ill work on making them longer when i have a bit more time.
