Sand Team of the Funk

I wanted to try my hand at making a sand team, so without further ado, here it is.

tyranitar__Rawr_by_mittenz_the_devil.jpg

Rex (Tyranitar) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 64 SAtk / 192 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Superpower
- Crunch
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam

T-tar is my lead, of course. He works great as a well when sand is up. Leftovers give him longevity. Superpower hits other T-tars, and Fire Blast is the best option to deal with Ferrothorn or Forretress. Ice Beam hits Latios, D-nite, Mence, and Gliscor, while Crunch is the main STAB move. The moveset is basically the way it is to cover as much as it can.

Landon (Landorus) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Even before Excadrill was banned, I knew I didn't want to use it. Landorus worked well, and I really like the idea of a SubSwords set. Landorus is the only Poke I have who can deal with Breloom well; all I need to do is sub to block the spore and then Swords Dance as much as I need to. EQ and Stone Edge are here for great coverage, and to get the boost from Sand Force.

Finn (Swampert) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 240 HP / 216 Def / 52 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Beam
- Scald
- Earthquake

Swampert here is my Bulky Water. Even with middling defenses, his fantastic HP lets him take STAB hits like nobody's business. Stealth Rock is here because it frees up a moveset on Skarmory and Tyranitar. Ice Beam hits grass, flying, and dragon types, Scald burns, and EQ is my attack of choice for everything else.

Skreech (Skarmory) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Roost
- Spikes
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird

Skarmory is here because I can take advantage of the sandstorm, and it works well with Blissey. Roost is here to Recover whatever damage I take, and to avoid taking a nasty electric attack. Spikes is good for entry hazard damage, and Whirlwind phazes. Brave Bird is here to make sure I'm not taunt fodder.

Snotfetus (Reuniclus) (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Recover
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Focus Blast

Reuniclus has a life orb to give it extra power, as Recover is my main method of healing. CM helps me set up on other pokes, and boost my SDef. This is most useful against foes like Latios and other strong special attackers. The EVs make sure Reuniclus can take physical hits, and Psychic and Focus Blast are good coverage.

Ignorance (Blissey) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Aromatherapy
- Softboiled
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic

Here's your average Blissey set. Softboiled to heal, Toxic to take care of other walls, Aromatherapy to heal paralyzed and burned teammates, and Seismic Toss for damage. I'm thinking about maybe giving it Wish, to help the team more. Alternatively, I could get rid of it altogether and use Scrafty or Lucario instead. Please help with suggestions.

Anyway, thanks for taking a look. Any suggestions are welcome, and happy rating!

Hey, Red M. Look to me that you've got a pretty solid team here outside of a few little things that could be fixed. First off, I'd like to suggest the use of Calm Mind Latias in place of Reuniclus. There are several advantages that the dragon has with the first being the fact that it pairs exceptionally well alonside Skarmory due to their synergy and the fact that Skarmory can lay down entry hazards which after a uses of Roar/Whirlwind will weaken Scizor and Tyranitar to the point where after a few Calm Minds they'll be history. Finally, Latias will give your team a secondary way of taking on opposing CM Reuniclus. It can set-up along side him and after reaching +6 you can phaze it away thanks to Roar.

I also see that you team lacks a spinblocker meaning that at any time your opponent can eliminate the entry hazards Skarmory worked so hard to put down. This is obviously a problem that needs to be fixed. My suggestion to do this is to use Jellicent in place of Swampert. Its Ghost-typing will block Rapid Spin and it can effectively deal with stall teams using the combination of Taunt, Will-O-Wisp, and the entry hazards it protects. Don't worry about the loss of Stealth Rock since you can just replace either Superpower or Fire Blast on Tyranitar to make room for the entry hazard.

Finally, if you're looking for a special wall that can use Wish and want to replace Blissey then why not try out Specially Defensive Jirachi? It's a set that takes full advantage of everything Jirachi has to offer. Its typing allows to take powerful hits such as Draco Meteor from Latios and simply heal off the damage as if nothing ever happened. Meanwhile, Serene Grace gives you a 60% chance of paralyzing your opponent's Pokemon with Body Slam allowing you to cripple any sweepers that rely on their speed. The moveset has three moves that are absolutely necessary (Body Slam, Wish, Iron Head) while the final slot can be filled by one of three moves. These are Protect, Fire Punch, and U-Turn. Each of them serve a different purpose and each of them are beneficial to Jirachi. Protect guarantees that you'll be healed by Wish. Fire Punch allows you to nail opposing Steel-types and most importantly Magnezone. While finally U-Turn allows you to escape Zone's evil clutches or make a switch to a Pokemon that has an advantage against whatever your opponent brings in to handle Jirachi. All of the sets are located below. Good team and good luck.

If you want defense on your Blissy change it to Chansey with the same spreads and give it an eviolite. It will have twice the defense your Blissy has now and can preform all the same functions.

Hey man.
First thing change Blissey to Chansey as its outclassed immensely
Secondly I think Reuniclus should be replaced with Calm Mind Wish Jirachi because wish support can really help your team.
Also Swampert is kinda bad so I'd switch it to Ferrothorn so you can get rocks and spikes up in one poke
Which eliminates the need for Skarm so you might wanna switch that to Roserade
Hope I helped :]

First off, thanks oblivion. I'll try out Jirachi and Latias right away. I think I'll keep Swampert for the moment; I put it on the team specifically so Tyranitar could have 4 attacks.

Kobra, thanks for the suggestions, I'll try those out after I try the other sets. Any particular sets in mind?

Good team you got here Red. There are only a couple things I'd recommend.

First off with reuniclus I'd say since your team is hazard and phaze based, a late game Trick Room Reuniclus would be of great help as it can come in late game once all you opponents poks are weak from the hazards, set up a trick room, and start sweeping. If you choose to bring it out early game and set up a TR it can also be helpful to your team since you really only have one fast guy that's hurt by the TR.

Secondly if you choose to stick with a CalmMind poke, I'd also recommend a CalmMind Latias with Roar because with this you have more possibility to phaze your opponents pokes, you keep that fighting resist and you gain another ground immunity all at the same time.

Also the Blissey to Chancey thing will help as well.

Wish you the best of luck and here are the sets:
Reuniclus
Reuniclus @ Life Orb
Nature-Quiet
Ability-Magic Guard
252 SpA / 64 Def / 192 HP
0 Speed IV
~Trick Room
~Psychic/Psyshock
~Shadow Ball
~Focus Blast
Latias
Latias @ Leftovers
Nature-Timid
252 HP / 252 Speed / 4 SP
~CalmMind
~Roar
~DragonPulse
~Recover

Thanks guys, Latias and Jirachi are working fantastic. I'll try Ferro and Roserade, but I'm worried that'll make me too weak to fire. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. Any other ideas?

These are good changes.

Even though Chansey has better defenses, it is going to lose health every turn due to lack of leftovers and sandstorm. So I would recommend not changing to Chansey if you want to use a pink blob. Jirachi will help with this team immensely.

Since you know have a wish passer, I would recommend adding a life orb on Landorus for the extra power. Wish passing to Landorus should happen often since Landorus can switch in on EQ's to Jirachi.
