[OVERVIEW]
Sandaconda's good bulk, solid utility movepool, and access to a useful ability in Shed Skin allow it to boast a unique niche as a defensive Ground-type over Mudsdale. With the combination of Rest and Shed Skin, Sandaconda is able to stay healthy throughout the course of a game, letting it reliably check threats like Stakataka, Aerodactyl, and Drapion while not being forced to rely on Wish support from the likes of Vaporeon to properly function as a check to these threats. Access to Glare allows Sandaconda to force switches and inhibit the effectiveness of set-up sweepers like Silvally-Ground. Sandaconda's Speed is also solid for a defensive Pokemon, and with some investment, can outspeed Pokemon like Copperajah. However, Sandaconda faces major competition as a defensive Ground-type with Mudsdale, as Mudsdale boasts a more effective defensive ability in Stamina, access to Body Press to keep it from being passive, and access to more utility moves, namely Toxic. These traits mean that Mudsdale can hold its own against threats that Sandaconda loses to, namely Decidueye and Dhelmise, while also being able to function as a soft check to special attackers like Salazzle.
