VGC Sandfighting mix

this is a vgc team i have been working on for quite a while. i would love as much input as possible.

Tyranitar @ Assault vest
Ability: Sand Stream
Nature: Brave
EVs: 284 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Fire Punch
- Superpower
Tyranitar was the main idea for this team. [1] I wanted a sand team since most people use Rain or sun, Beacuse of sand stream it seamed like a poilitoad for sand. [2] with stone edge he can take out many fire types that can hurt many of my guys, fire punch for those amoongus and ice types, and superpower for other dark or tyranitars. [3]other than summoning sand storms he is an assault tank. power can be taken and given and he does just that.

Lucario @ Lucarionite
Ability: Steadfast
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Iron Tail
- Ice Punch
- Close Combat
- Bullet Punch
Lucario was tyranitars partner. [1] in the sandstorms steel types get a evaion boost and as a mega, he becomes faster. [2] with adaptability, he gets boosts to iron tail, bullet punch, and close combat. he is the power behind the team, fast and strong to hit be for getting hit. [3] Mega lucario is used by the end he finishes what ever is left over.

Ludicolo @ Expert Belt
Ability: Own Tempo
Nature: Modest
EVs: 104 HP / 252 SpA / 152 Spe
- Fake out
- Giga Drain
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
Ludicolo was my water/grass type. [1] since many of the teams are water based, a grass type would be good idea in the rain. [2] as we battled he was surprizingly bulky as well as a good dragon and fire killer. he held his own against many charzard y's. [3] in battle he comes out first more often then not. fake out gives me a chance to see who uses protect and gets me a flinch, giga drain heals him and like before he is a starting knockout. he can hold is own and beat others.

Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Naive
EVs: 76 Atk / 180 SpA / 252 Spe
- Thunderbolt
- Knock off
- Superpower
- Thunder Wave
thundurus was my electric type. [1] i picked him because i remember the pain flying types were, like talonflame. [2] through battles he is my second starting pokemon. he has prority for paralisis. he is also fast alot faster than most. [3] he stuns the other pokemon and takes out ghosts and water pokemon with knock off and thunderbolt. superpower is to give him a fighting chance against rocks.

Chandelure @ Leftover
Ability: Infiltrator
Nature: Timid
EVs: 112 HP / 140 Spa / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Shadow Ball
- Fire Blast
Chandalure was my fire type. [1] i picked him for the infiltrator, many gengars use substitute. [2] he was for gengars and the grass type amoongus to stop rage powder for stealing attacks. [3] unlike my other guys i dont use chandalure but he has been useful for ghosts.

Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Substitute
- Pain Split
- Shadow Ball
- Dazzling Gleam
Gengar was my poison type. [1] i picked him as an extra ghost killer as well as for dragons. [2] dragons like mega salamence were my main consern and other gengars. [3] like chandalure he isnt used very much in battle, barely ever. hes not used at all, just an extra.

Sup dude, glad to see you posted your RMT. Here are just some general basics that I think you should always remember about 2v2 battling, since it seems like this is your first attempt at this metagame and it shows in the team builds, here are some concerns I have about this team:

1. The first major issue is the notable lack of Protect throughout the team. Protect is, without a doubt, the most important move in any doubles metagame, and is a key component in many of the doubles strategies that are commonly used. A well timed Protect can drastically alter the direction of a battle, for example, if your opponent double targets one of your pokemon and you correctly Protect that turn you've now wasted an entire turn for your opponent and gotten yourself ahead by that much.

2. Another key issue is that it seems as if you're shoe-horning in singles sets into a doubles metagame. 4 attacks Mega Lucario, SubSplit Gengar, SubCM Chandelure, mixed Thundurus etc. A lot of this stems from the original issue (the lack of Protect), and can be a fairly straightforward fix from there.

3. EV's work differently at level 100 and at level 50, and since you've built this team at level 100 the EV's are a bit wonky. One example is the 152 Spe investment on Ludicolo. At level 100 that puts you at 214 Spe, at level 50 that's 109 Spe, but 109 Spe can also be reached with 148 Spe, giving you 4 free EV's. This is important as certain benchmarks are reached at different investments at 100 and 50 respectively. A quick reference guide for EV'ing for level 50 is that 4 EV's are needed for the initial point, afterwards it's every 8 EV's for 1 point.

As for the actual rate, I'm afraid this team will need a heavy do-over to the actual sets, so I'll be leaving you an example of a set that is more attuned to the 2v2 style:

Gengar @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Sludge Bomb
- Icy Wind
- Protect
- Will-O-Wisp

Much like your original Gengar this set only uses 2 attacks, however it plays quite a bit differently. I opted for Sludge Bomb over Shadow Ball as you already have 2 Pokemon which can handle Ghost and Psychic types (Chandelure and Tyranitar), and Sludge Bomb provides utility in that it gives you a second way to hit Fairy types super-effectively, as well as Grass-types. Icy Wind was chosen over Dazzling Gleam as it hits most Dragons that are 4x weak to it significantly harder than Dazzling Gleam, and to be honest the only Dragons you'll see that aren't 4x weak to Icy type moves are the Lati's or Hydreigon who you handle easy enough with Lucario and Tyranitar. Icy Wind also gives you a form of speed control which you are desperately lack in, as well as a way to beat Landorus-T on the switch-ins which is something you also need quite badly since it beats almost every member of your team with ease, bar Ludicolo, but even 'Colo loses to a combination of U-Turn + whatever else happens that turn. Will-O-Wisp allows Gengar to break down physically inclined offensive cores such as Terrak + Kanga, as well as put anything else on a timer.

Anyway, I encourage you to take a look at the VGC subforums, as well as external resources such as Nugget Bridge, to get a better understanding of the VGC 15 metagame, as well as learn more about teambuilding and battle theory in 2v2 metas. Good luck dude :)

i think i will create a new team with gengar as the starting point. i was thinking of a talonflame but it cant think of anything else. ive looked at the most used pokemon and the gengar you told me to use is a strong start and can be helped with a fire flying but i cant think where to go. should i create a new thread?
