Overview
########
+ Great Attack and Speed
+ Ground and Dark are both excellent offensive types
+ Excellent abilities in Moxie and Intimidate
- Paper-thin defenses
- No access to Knock Off
- Crippling weaknesses to common attacking types like Fighting, Water and Bug
Choice Scarf
########
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Crunch
move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: Pursuit / Fire Fang
ability: Moxie
item: Choice Scarf
evs: 180 Atk / 76 Def / 236 Spe
nature: Adamant
Moves
========
- STAB Earthquake is very powerful, hitting threats like Pawniard and Magnemite super effectively.
- STAB Crunch is also excellent, letting Sandile stop Misdreavus in its tracks.
- Stone Edge creates EdgeQuake coverage with Earthquake, and knocks Murkrow out with ease.
- Pursuit can also be used to trap Misdreavus, Gastly and other Ghosts.
- Fire Fang roasts some Steels not weak to its STABs, like Ferroseed.
Set Details
========
- The EV spread maximizes Attack and Speed, with the leftovers put into Defense to give it a better chance at surviving physical priority.
- An Adamant nature is used, as Sandile already reaches 24 Speed with a Choice Scarf, enough to outspeed threats like +2 Tirtouga, +1 Scraggy and Choice Scarf Pawniard.
- A Choice Scarf lets Sandile use its Speed and Attack to decimate teams lacking non-resisted priority attacks.
- However, an Eviolite can be used to allow Sandile to switch moves, surprising switch-ins.
- If Eviolite is chosen, the remaining EVs should go into HP, not Defense, as investment in Defense does not let it reach an Eviolite number.
- Moxie lets Sandile quickly snowball through the enemy's team; after a kill, it can rip through any Pokemon not resistant or immune to the attack it is locked into.
Usage Tips
========
- Bring Sandile in safely, keeping in mind how weak its defenses are; a slow U-Turn or Volt Switch is usually the best way to do this, behind revenging.
- If it's still early-game, attempt break down a wall with a powerful attack; for example, Fire Fang on Ferroseed.
- Later in the game, attempt to sweep with an unresisted STAB attack.
Team Options
========
- Bunnelby appreciates Misdreavus's absence, as does Meditite; they all appreciate a slow U-Turn or Volt Switch to get them in safely.
- Knock Off support lets Sandile get past previously insurmountable foes, like Cottonee.
- Stealth Rock chips away at the health of Flying-types, who are immune to Earthquake.
- Flying, Fighting and Dark-resistant Pokemon make superb teammates, as those types can switch into a STAB of Sandile's when it is locked into one.
Other Options
########
- A Life Orb set is decent but usually outclassed by Drilbur, Houndour, etc.
- A Hone Claws sweeper set is an option; however, foes will likely keep their current Pokemon in if they fear Pursuit.
- Sludge Bomb is a very unique facet of Sandile's movepool, but is usually inferior due to its low Special Attack.
- Thief + Berry Juice, but no bulk
- Stealth Rock, but no bulk and better setters are available.
Checks & Counters
########
**Priority**: Sandile is very vulnerable to priority, such as Fletchling's Acrobatics, Timburr's Mach Punch, and Corphish's Aqua Jet.
**Revenge Killers**: Many Pokemon are immune to the move that Choice Scarf Sandile is locked into, or outspeed it, and can revenge-kill it easily, making all its Moxie boosts go to waste. Murkrow, for example, can revenge Sandiles locked into Earthquake, Crunch or Pursuit, or Life Orb variants.
**Vullaby and Murkrow**: Vullaby and Murkrow resist or are immune to both of Sandile's STAB attacks, as well as Pursuit.
**Flying-types**: All Flying-types are immune to Earthquake, its most powerful attack; some, like Fletchling, can set up on EQ-locked Sandile.
**Dark and Fighting-types:** Dark and Fighting-type Pokemon resist Dark-type attacks, Sandile's other STAB. Unless weak to Earthquake, these types of Pokemon can typically handle Sandile well; Fighting-types even hit it super effectively. Timburr can withstand even a +1 Earthquake or +2 Crunch, for example, and Mach Punch Sandile for an OHKO.
**Physical Walls**: Physical walls, such as Koffing and Hippopotas, can take most of Sandile's attacks, even at +1; Koffing's Levitate even gives it an immunity to Earthquake.
**Bug-types**: Bug-types, like Sewaddle, resist Sandile's STAB Earthquake.
**Sturdy** The ability Sturdy allows a Pokemon to endure any attack from full HP, which causes Sandile to be countered by Tirtouga and Dwebble if entry hazards aren't present on the opposite side.
