XY OU Sandstorm Team

This is my first attempt at a sandstorm team and I wanted some outside opinion.

Tyranitar @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Polish
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Crunch

Tyranitar is my sand setter. I chose to use the Smooth Rock as opposed to Tyranitarite because I wanted extended sand. E-quake, Stone Edge, and Crunch are basic coverage moves for T-tar and I run Rock Polish for extra speed if I can get a sweep.

Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

I've never used Excadrill on a team before, but I was eager to put it on this team. I decided to use Sand Force instead of Sand Rush because Excadrill is actually really fast with full EV investment in speed. After a Swords Dance, Excadrill's Attack reaches a crazy high 810. Earthquake and Iron Head are good STAB moves him and Rock Slide (which also gets a boost from Sand Force) adds coverage for Fire types that are immune to Earthquake. (like Megazard-Y and Talonflame)

Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Aerial Ace

Talonflame was an easy choice. It's two main STAB moves cover nearly all of T-tar's weaknesses. The Choice Band is to get as much power as possible out of Talonflame's attacks. Aerial Ace is to finish off low health Pokemon without taking recoil damage from Brave Bird.

skarmory_by_michael_bollig-d69zjxn.png

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Defog
- Roost
- Whirlwind

I needed someone to set up entry hazards on my team and Skarmory's bulk and access to Defog made him an excellent choice. Defog is necessary for Talonflame who won't last long with Stealth Rock's out. I choose to run Stealth Rocks over Spikes because it helps whittle down annoying Fire types.

greninja_by_vkarend-d6q19ep.png

Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 136 Atk / 152 SpA / 220 Spe
- Hydro Pump
- Shadow Sneak
- U-turn
- Ice Beam

I needed a Water type for coverage reasons and Greninja is fast and powerful. Ice Beam takes care of Grass types, Hydro Pump is for STAB, U-Turn is for a quick get away, and finally, Shadow Sneak is for priority finishing move that also stops silly Rapid Spinners from removing my Rocks.

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Leech Seed
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb

Last and defiantly not least, is my mega. I needed a bulky grass type and had an open mega slot thanks to the Smooth Rock on Tyranitar,so Mega Venusaur was the obvious choice. Originally I was running Synthesis, but I forgot about the drop in recovery in sand so I switched it with Sleep Powder. Sludge Bomb gets rid of silly Fairies and Giga Drain + Leech Seed allows for recovery.

Thanks for reading and please leave a comment or two!

Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Roost / Tailwind

Although you are locking yourself in with the Choice Band, Roost is still preferred. You dish of hard hits in the match and switch out. When you get the opportunity, you bring back in the Talonflame HOWEVER you will be forced to switch the next turn. The 4 Def is simply because you are running U-turn and if you opponent has got Stealth Rocks up, you want to be able to come in more than twice without dying to them. If you want, you can consider Tailwind for the last slot instead, always nice to try and get some support towards the other Pokemon on your team.

EDIT: RecklessRaptor sniped me :x

You can run HP fire on either Mega venusaur over sleep powder or on Greninja to help deal with ferrothorns/bulky mega scizor because your team is relatively weak to it. If packing HP fire, run more SpA on greninja/Mvenu. Your team's only fire move now being only Talonflame's flare blitz is not a very good way to check it because you take massive recoil from it or risk being t-waved/taking SR dmg on the switch in.
Also, without sand rush, excadrill's based 88 speed is not enough to outspeed ZardY or Talonflame so it's useless even if you had rock slide.

I agree with Alkov. Excadrill is not "really fast with full EV investment", as his base 88 speed is actually lackluster. Sand Force boosts all of his moves by 30%, acting like life orb, but the speed is what Exca really needs.

Hi! First of all, i would suggest changing your Tyranitar set to the standard defensive smooth rock set. It frees a slot you are using skarmory for.
On excadrill, as everyone else said, change your ability to Sand Rush. It allows you to crush offensive teams easily.
I would suggest that you use@darnell 's set, but with an Adamant nature. Talon needs all the power it can get and w/o Adamant, it misses some KOs such as the OHKO on Latios and Thundurus, with BB and Flare Blitz. Now that you don't need skarm, i suggest you change it to Latios as even though you have m-venu, it can be worn down due to sand switchins hazards no synthesis, making it harder for you to switch into keld and azu constantly.
Change your greninja set to the standard 4 special attacks. Shadow Sneak is not good on ninja, as it always loses or always wins against exca depending on the set your opponent is running. I would suggest you to change your venusaur to the offensive set, as your team is mostly offensive. You might wanna try synthesis and how it goes. You can change it later if you want. 8-)
1)Tyranitar set:

move 2: Crunch
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Fire Blast

It can lure skarm and lando-t easing in exca's sweep.
2) sand force -> sand rush on exca
3) Adamant nature on talon
