SM OU Scarf Gengar

This is an old team fro m the time where Scarf Blacephalon was everywhere. I was sick and tired of losing to it and because of it I decided to run a scarf gengar.
It turned out to be a good mon overall and it matched with the meta then and it does it now.

Here's my thought process with this team:

Ok Gengar is faster then a lot of other scarfers. It outspeeds everything thats not named Koko Gren.
It can other scarfers from full

252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Kartana: 315-372 (121.1 - 143%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Blacephalon: 318-374 (128.7 - 151.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Gengar Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Lele: 276-326 (98.2 - 116%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Gengar Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Excadrill: 372-438 (103 - 121.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Deal with lead Diancie

252 SpA Gengar Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Diancie: 121-144 (50.2 - 59.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Somehow outspeed Mega Pert in the rain

Gengar 525
Swampert 478 (Adamant)

and it can also kill other mons that are not scarfed if they don't expect it

252 SpA Gengar Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Koko: 392-464 (139.5 - 165.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Gengar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
- Trick

I want to use gengar as an cleaner so I might even go for Hazard stack since it's always good. Ferro would be a good start since it can also deal with koko.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpD
Careful Nature
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Knock Off

I need rock and an Zygarde Switch in. Lando should do it but I'm going to use Rockium just for skarmory on stall.

Landorus-Therian @ Rockium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

I'll probably should get something for Mega scizor. Heatran would be a good choice but Toxapex can stop a sweep and setup Toxic spikes.

Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Haze
- Recover
- Toxic Spikes

Since I have hazard stack other players will try to do anything to get them of the field.
I will try to stop it by puting Bisharp on my team and maybe I don't even have to switch it in. If I have it in the back they might not even use it.

Bisharp @ Dread Plate
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance

I can make a core with Bisharp and medicham that way I can OHKO mons like Pex and Magearna. But I should probably run Jolly because of Lando.

Medicham-Mega @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- High Jump Kick
- Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt

Ok 5 games I'm at 1607 on the ladder

5 Wins in a row

Conclusion

No one cares if you have a bisharp. They are using defog even if there's a Kartana vs bisharp situation

It does well againt stall if their unavare mon is clef, and every Tapu dies to gengar, except fini which needs 2 hits with sludge wave

Lando could be changed to Z Fly, but in my opinion it's done.

Threats:

Mega Saybleye if bisharp goes down
Kingdra in rain if Ferro goes down
Other Mega Medichams if they're Jolly
Weavile if you find one

Well free to leave some suggections

Edit: I forgot to put the medicham set on here now it's fixed.

Hey there, cool team! I think my changes will certainly work for the better, and I'll attempt to keep the main "star" of the team of Gengar. Hope you enjoy the rate! (PS: It's missing a description for Medicham in the OP.)

I like the look of this team, but it honestly feels like one of those "Heatran clicks buttons vs. me" type of teams. Heatran has its checks for this build, but if it comes in on something slower such as Bisharp or Ferrothorn, switching in is an absolute pain. Your Fire-type resist, Toxapex, ultimately gets broken down by Heatran thanks to Magma Storm + [Z-]Earth Power. Your match-up vs. Sableye-Mega, as described in your threatlist, is really horrendous. Stall builds will give you trouble, especially ones with Quagsire. Your switch-ins to Tapu Lele are practically nonexistent (I acknowledge that Gengar beats it 1v1 with Sludge Wave, yes). Hawlucha is a very menacing threat to this build, too.

Major Changes

Heatran > Bisharp
heatran.gif

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Toxic
In this metagame, Bisharp is pretty average. There's a lot less need for Bisharp considering the fall of Sticky Web. Its role can either be fulfilled by another Pokemon due to its lackluster speed and middling defenses or it can be outright replaced by a Pokemon with a different role. Heatran will be a moderately soft check to Tapu Lele, and its stallbreaking capabilities will heavily assist you in that match-up.

Mantine > Toxapex
mantine.gif

Mantine @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 40 Def / 220 SpD
Calm Nature
- Roost
- Scald
- Defog
- Toxic
Toxapex has more overall viability than Mantine, but I feel Mantine works better on this team. Your team currently lacks a form of hazard removal, so adding Mantine grants you Defog and maintains the role of a bulky Water-type. The rain match-up is slightly improved as well.

Minor Changes

| Protect > Knock Off (optional considering the change below)

This'd primarily help against Hawlucha, but Tapu Lele can also be a small target for those Focus Blasting expecting Heatran / they lack Hidden Power Fire. You'd Protect on the High Jump Kick, causing Hawlucha to take 50%, while Chople Berry Ferrothorn eats the next High Jump Kick, allowing Power Whip. This'll either outright KO it assuming it's chipped, or it'll be in range of Medicham's Fake Out. The addition

landorus-therian.gif

Landorus-Therian @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Fly / Hidden Power Ice
- U-turn / Fly
Once again, I feel that the Hawlucha match-up is one that needs the most attention considering its massive rise in popularity. The additional bulk allows it to better tank Heatran's attacks (while still not being a 100% answer) and Landorus can lure in Pokemon that will check a standard defensive set such as Tapu Bulu. This is a set that is rising in popularity in tandem with Hawlucha's surge in usage .

Hope you liked the rate! Hazard stack is something that we're seeing less of, but it's perfectly fine if you want to opt for a version with hazard abusers. My suggestions were rather unconventional, but I feel they patched up some weaknesses that you and I noticed. Good luck!

Hey there, great team. Just to help ya out, you failed to put M-Medicham. I found him in the pastebin, but might wanna edit. :)

I may report back later, but my initial thought is that you're awfully weak to defensive Zapdos. Bisharp is your mon you want out there, but lack the Volt-Turn mons to be able to get it out there without either taking a Heat Wave/TBolt/HP Ice or sacking something. And also, even after rocks damage, you can't OHKO it; if you took any attack or hazards damage, Zapdos kills you.

I don't know how to combat it. I'm in the 1400s. But Zapdos sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

Standard looking team, overall not sure about scarf gengar. Will edit with full review soon. But mainly came in post to let you know that staff usually requires certain requirements for RMT's and not sure this counts so might want read the sticky and fix up on it before they might close it ! :o
