Set Description
=========
With a Choice Scarf, Kartana efficiently zeroes in on its role as a revenge killer and cleaner; its great natural Speed makes it one of the fastest Choice Scarf users, which allows it to outspeed and revenge kill opposing Choice Scarf users like Urshifu-R, Tapu Lele, and Blacephalon. It can force out Dragapult by threatening it with a super effective Knock Off, as well as pick off other lightning-fast offensive Pokemon like Tapu Koko, Weavile, Zeraora, and +1 Garchomp with Leaf Blade. Kartana can also punish incoming Steel-types like Ferrothorn, Melmetal, Heatran, and opposing Kartana with Sacred Sword. Smart Strike is a useful late-game move, as it can hit Grass-, Fighting-, and Dark-resistant foes like Dragapult, Buzzwole, Weavile, and Clefable in the same slot. This is important because Kartana wants to lock itself into a move and clean without switching out, due to the nature of Beast Boost. Kartana excels at cleaning up weakened teams late-game, as it only needs one opportunity for a free KO to start snowballing out of control.
Team Options
========
A wide variety of offensive teamstyles can appreciate Kartana's revenge killing capabilities and provide wallbreaking support that paves a way for Kartana to clean up. Future Sight support from the likes of Galarian Slowking and Slowbro allows Kartana to bust through checks like Zapdos and Buzzwole, and Slowbro can provide free entry for Kartana with Teleport. Kartana synergizes well with physical wallbreakers like Swords Dance variants of Weavile, Landorus-T, Bisharp, and Garchomp; physical Dragapult; and Melmetal, which can help wear down or break past checks like Zapdos, Tornadus-T, and Corviknight; these teammates are potentially assisted by Kartana removing items from the aforementioned foes. Pivots like Landorus-T and Rotom-W generate momentum and attacking opportunities for both Kartana and the wallbreakers it is paired with. Magnezone can remove Steel-types like Ferrothorn, Skarmory, and Corviknight to make Kartana a bigger threat. Tapu Lele can provide wallbreaking support for Kartana by helping to overwhelm shared checks like Ferrothorn and Corviknight, luring in the latter and hitting it with Thunderbolt while also protecting Kartana from priority moves like Weavile’s Ice Shard with Psychic Terrain. Rillaboom can work in tandem with Kartana to overwhelm shared checks and provide pivoting support while boosting the power of Leaf Blade with Grassy Terrain.
