My name is Salamence. I am the metagame's most unpredictable 'Mon next to Infernape. I have just been given more options, as if I didn't already have enough.

Hello fellow Smogoneers, Tyranipole here with three Salamence sets that my friend inspired me into making. He gave the Rash nature, some moves and, most importantly, the item that these sets are meant to work with: the almighty Choice Scarf. With the Scarf, you no longer have to worry about being surprised by other Scarfers, while getting the jump on otherwise faster Pokemon.

To start off:

Name: Physical oriented
Nature: Naughty
EV's: 136 Atk, 132 Sp. Atk, 240 Spd. (to outrun Jolly ScarfCross)
OR
188 Atk, 184 Sp. Atk, 136 Spd. (for Adamant ScarfCross)
Moveset:
Dragon Claw
Earthquake/ Aerial Ace/ Stone Edge
" / " / "
Flamethrower/ Fire Blast

I prefer outrunning Jolly ScarfCross, so as not to be surprised, but rather to surprise. Dragon Claw is a given for STAB. EQ gets coverage, especially with Stone Edge. AA is an option to kill Hera 100%, as he could take a Flamethrower and live. If using the second EV spread and/ or Fire Blast, it's not so necessary.

Set 2
Name: Special oriented
EV's: 132 Atk, 136 Sp. Atk, 240 Spd.
OR
184 Atk, 188 Sp. Atk, 136 Spd.
Dragon Pulse/ Draco Meteor
Flamethrower/ Fire Blast
Hydro Pump/ HP Electric
Stone Edge/ EQ
Similar in purpose to the above, only special based. D. Pulse is for reliability, DM for power. Fire attacks for levitating Steels. Hydro Pump pairs with Stone Edge for more coverage than w/ EQ, and HP Electric with EQ for similar reasons. HP Electric also gives Gyar a nice, unexpected kick in the crotch.

Set 3
Name: Speed demon
Nature: Naive
180 Atk, 180 Sp. Atk, 148 Spd.
Dragon Claw/ Pulse
Flamethrower/ Fire Blast
Hydro Pump / EQ/ Stone Edge/ HP Electric
" / " / " / "
You want to do 2 attacks from each offensive spectrum with this set, otherwise go for one of the above. The given speed lets it outruns above sets that may be running 252 Spd. EV's. Perfectly abuses Salamence's strengths.

I now pronounce this thread open for discussion.

What's the point of the "Speed Demon" set? It decreases his offensive power, and he can very easily reach over 403 speed with a neutral nature. And he still loses to priority moves.

Anyways...IMO, the best way to do this would be to make a mixed set. Draco Meteor is almost too good to leave out thanks to it's obscene base power (and it'll often be his strongest option if you're looking to OHKO something that has roughly neutral defenses), EQ is a very nice option for hitting Steels that aren't flying (Brick Break could work instead if you're really worried about Blissey), Flamethrower/FB takes care of floaty steel types and wounds beefy grassers, and...I dunno, there are a lot of things that could fit into the last slot (Dragon Claw for an all-around physical option, Crunch to hit Cresselia if it's taken some previous damage, Stone Edge/Rock Slide for more damage on flyers).

you can't really say any set is the best set. it's so subjective based on your team. like for instance, if you've got heatran, fire moves are less important and you could go with dragon dance instead. salamence is like rambo. he can probably kill something with whatever you put in his hands. or for that matter, he could probably kill you without hands.

Before posting a "new" moveset or strategy, check the analysis page for the Pokemon first, it may be listed there already. Slapping a Choice Scarf on something doesn't make it a "new" moveset worthy of its own thread.
