Scizor [QC 0/2]

[SET]
name: Offensive Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Bullet Punch
move 3: Knock Off
move 4: Roost
item: Life Orb
ability: Technician
nature: Adamant
evs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Swords Dance boosts the power of Scizor's attacks, allowing it to function as a powerful sweeper with priority Bullet Punch. Knock Off ensures that Scizor can hit bulky Steel resists such as Corviknight and Toxapex, while Roost allows Scizor to mitigate Life Orb damage and increase its staying power. It can use Quick Attack instead of Roost to catch weakened checks such as Rotom-Heat, which would otherwise outrun and KO Scizor while being resistant to Bullet Punch, although this is generally inconsistent. 216 Speed EVs and with a neutral nature allow Scizor to outrun neutral base 60, such as Choice Specs Aegislash and some Clefable. This Scizor variant fits best on offensive teams that appreciate the strong priority and defensive utility afforded by Scizor. Scizor struggles against bulky Water and Steel types like Corviknight and Toxapex, so it appreciates the support of Pokémon like Zeraora and Swords Dance Crawdaunt which can break through these checks and potentially allow Scizor to sweep. Scizor can use Sand Tomb instead of Roost to trap and beat Toxapex after a Swords Dance, but this is situational and still leaves Scizor walled by bulky Steel types, so most teams will prefer the consistency of Roost.

[SET]

[SET COMMENTS]
Scizor's solid bulk and defensive typing in conjunction with U-Turn make it an effective pivot, coming in on premier special attackers like Alakazam and Kyurem and threatening them out with its supereffective STAB moves. Knock Off can be used for a utility oriented Scizor, while Swords Dance can allow Scizor to deal hefty damage and even sweep with priority Bullet Punch once its checks are weakened.
Scizor should be employed in conjunction with physically Pokémon such as Toxapex and Amoonguss, which struggle against Psychic and Ice type attacks. It forms a particularly effective core with physically defensive Toxapex, which can sponge Fire type hits that would otherwise terrorize our insectoid hero. For all its merits, Scizor is held back by a disappointing offensive STAB combination, leaving it unable to make considerable progress against bulky Water or Steel types like Toxapex and Corviknight, beyond knocking them off. Swords Dance Scizor in particular appreciates the presence of a strong electric type like Zeraora to beat its checks. Scizor also benefits from the presence of strong Fire types such as Alolan Marowak and Rotom-Heat to threaten the aforementioned Steel types. Rotom-Heat is particularly notable for its ability to check Magnezone and generate momentum, forming a Volt-Turn core with Scizor.

We discussed Scizor sets in the QC channel and ultimately don't think that Choice Band deserves a set as of right now. It certainly has some niche applications, but is not prominent enough to warrant a full set as of right now. We would like to see an offensive Swords Dance set added, as that set has been seeing an incredible amount of usage on the ladder. This is the set:

[SET]
name: Offensive Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Bullet Punch
move 3: Knock Off
move 4: Roost
item: Life Orb
ability: Technician
nature: Adamant
evs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe

Quick Attack and Sand Tomb are both worth mentioning over Roost. This should be the first listed set.
