Tournament SCL VI - LC Discussion Thread

[PLA] Gondra vs Eniigma [SHO] I feel like Enigma is in terrible momentum and isn't hitting anything anytime soon (dude is literally losing all his LPL games as well). Maybe this is the perfect week for Gondra to cross him. He'll probably just bring something stupidly standard and play from there. Either this, or Hacker forces some dumb matchup fish. I will favor Gondra, just because of Enigma's terrible momentum.

[GIB] tazz vs Laroxyl [FOX] I think Laro is just the better player of the two. I know both will take it extremely seriously and go for the micro-details in their prep. Laro will pick one of the 300 teams from his database, while tazz will bring some matchup optimizer into a reluctant standard structure (I mean, it's LC, everybody is standard anyway).

[ISL] reggg vs Wail [DYN] As I said, reggg is in for a historic season. I genuinely think he should have had his chance earlier rather than now. Wail is on a good run of form; he had two NP Vull lead wins, and we expect him to bring it again. Even matchup? I favor reggg if he pays attention to Wail's teambuilding trends, which, knowing him and how greedy he is, he will.

[TER] dcae vs Envy [TMS] The battle of the losers. Whoever loses is set for a deep-bench season. I still think Envy is more reliable than dcae, even though their level of play is similar (even though dcae's LC Sheet numbers are better). Anyway, I will go with dcae so my sheet number just appears better when I brag about them.

[BRE] Lokifan vs JuanSG [SPA] . I think JuanSG's Cinderella run is over here. Loki is the best in the pool and a phenom (dude has as many LC Sheet wins as I do, with 14 losses, and I am one of the best to ever do it; in a sense, he has the ability to demonstrate that I am a bad mons player). If Juan hits the cheese this time, maybe there is hope? .

It's been a full month of SCL LC folks, and another LCer has seen the darkness of the bench. This week, dcae has re-entered the retirement home and taking his place is SammyCe123 looking to turn around the Terrors' LC slot. In fact, to put it into perspective, the last win that slot was yours truly at the end of last SCL's regular season.... can Sammy show up against tazz and turn around this statistic or do I get another week of lauding this around?

Coming back into this preview, hottest rookie reggg (form, not appearance he's balding badly according to insider info) takes on not performing well (or just unlucky?) retain eniigma. Will this be the end of the road for reggg or are the haters (of his skill, they're valid on the balding) right about him being a fluke? Similarly, other hottest rookie JuanSG (form, maybe appearance according to one dvs) takes on also not quite performing envy, although the latter finally exited the winless crowd with last week's game against dcae. Is this the comeback arc for our TL or is the tko trained JuanSG keeping his momentum? Laro and Wail offer the most experienced and even matchup of the week, the two europeans having a good tournament so far so this should be a right treat for us. Couldn't even tell you who to root for! Rounding the week's matchups are loki vs gondra, the latter of whom has immediately made hacker look like the fool he is by winning a game and getting ready to take another one versus loki, who's coming in after reusing a rain team from last year that also didn't work then.

As we are in the week 5 which is more or less the middle of the season there is little doubt that the story of the season is Juan 4-0, and not just casually been 4-0 by virtue of hax or luck alone winning games on his own fashion and even using most of his teambuilding analytical skills to grab advantages there. Considering I want ego to up us on their ranks as the best tier coverage on SCL... so here it goes the TRAWKAN BREAKDOWN of Juan's 4 games so far.

WK 1- Our hero is nervous( he was not 100% was drinking Tempranillo Wine with Jamón on some bar in Mallorca). His first opp is one hell of a vet in Laroxyl, which if you follow LC knows is the guy with the biggest bank of teams ever and he is always prepared for the game so you will never see Laroxyl improvise... Juan brought a very very creative built and hit it very very hard the vesta+ chou+ goth is almost tailor made to crush this matchup

by turn 10 Juan already had a very decisive advantage while laro couldnt regain his momentum after goth trapped an already burned mienfoo

just to quickly rightly that tricky play by Laro that was completely crushed by Spore Toeds( Is that consider unnexpected as of today?)

Now the decisive move cause rocks is very very decisive for this game even before the final vull attempt to sweep and to me a touch of genious( even tho its not unusual early gen as most people are addicted to just use defensive teras.) the ICE TERA GLIM, spicy, elegant and that reveal made the matchup not fun to witness

WK 2- After a Glorious Matchup for Wk 1 our hero goes to hit another crazy one against one the LC greatests and in my oppinion my favorite player dcae. As you can see there was very little dcae could do after that arsenal of water type offense and the fact that he tera watered the Mud insteads of the foo made hella difference on that specific matchup...

And the fact he did expected late game to bring in the Mud kinda helped

wk 3- Well so far the matchups were great for Juan and everybody in LC already KNEW he was a Matchup hitter and hes been hitting, this particular week was a test of has Juan really arrived? or Does he just been blessed with matchups on the past 2 weeks?

Lokifan brought in insane rain artilary, while Juan went for the first time in maybe forever with a TTM with possible double fake out to stall Rain turns( if you didnt watch this replay please do cause it is a fun one, Loki did indeed outplay Juan using the trappers as psychologic pressure alongside the Pranksters, so it is less damage heavy than Juans own input when Loki had a win pretty much set Juan brought his trick and having a clutch tera water for Toedscool made it mostly also a favorable matchup for Juan, which him delivered nicely.

WK 4 Juan is already on the radar and is facing Brazilian Wonder, Envy the great... in what appears to be an even matchup with a slight Juan advantage( With the Wingull vs TTM and the Pinch on the Stunky matchup( thats why I hate ttm if you twist the offense it relies to much on mienfoo while been super dupper slow)

by turn 5 this was very decise if you pay attention there Juan already made envy removaless, without a great switch or a mon faster them wingull while his best counterplay was a super trappable stunky.

and here disaster's hit and the advantage is just too big, unless a wild vull turn.

To finish the Game Juan showed an insane off set with the Tera Flying acrobatics( very cool baller)

the rest is mostly consolidation even if Envy did indeed get closer.



END OF RECAP NOW MY OPPINION: the end result of 4-0 is a surprise. the formula is not and while variance is doing its thing and the luck factor of hitting the matchup in all 4 games( when does it stop being a guessing game and start being skills?And Juan is definetilly skilled on the builder as he got sun banned). I am still waiting to see how well will he play once facing an unfavorable matchup( which is his main weakness in game and also why he got hitted by TTM twice as in people expect strategically to beat him once the matchups are even) anyway... I do expect him to still kill and get a historical season, even tho I dont personally believe that formula is sustainable for future SCLs.

Halfway through and we've seen more shakeups! Terrors finally discover Old Yellering dcae for lcpl star sammyce123 can teach them what a win in lc this season looks like. Aipom ran so free you think people had a behind the scenes agreement to run it this week. Juan also now enters the pool as the last undefeated player...chat, do we think he can keep it up? reggg has finally fallen, coinciding with rumors of "employment" and eniigma has finally rediscovered why his retain status exists by also winning his first game. With the second half of the season underway, who ends the pool leading the pack? Drop your predicts below!​

Almost at the end of the regular season! Who will be the LCers climbing into the playoff spots? Juan remains the one to watch out for, after our other superstar to be reggg dipped to a 3-2 record, which now ties with lokifan (sorry to one of them after this week!) and Laroxyl. Sammy on the other hand is blazing off a 2-0 start coinciding with Terrors rising up the rankings, while everyone else is in the red. Amusingly, as of writing this the top 4 teams have the only positive LCers (ignoring dcae and aside from reggg). This is also our first week without Satan's pet bird so we're in full uncharted territory here....place your bets on how different the meta will be going forward! Who's gonna have the most interesting team this week?​

The first week without Vullaby looked real good, if only because we saw various things that we might not see normally like a Grassy Seed mirror matchup! Juan also can no longer claim for Scottie's undefeated record but he's still doing the best rookie performance in who knows how long. As it stands, the top 4 teams' LCers are Juan, Laroxyl, Lokifan and Eniigma...but don't rule out the possibility of a surprise turn of events that could see the other teams sneak in to playoffs (except Dynamos, they look super out). Drop your meta predictions for what changes even more in our new post Vullaby era, what mon will rise up to terrorize LC next?​
